Eraminus watches and listens, he thinks to himself that this might work but it is doubtful. He knew that some commanders prefer to have their men fear them and that this might be one such instance. He would go along with their plan, at worst he could help bottle neck them either at the mouth of the cave or within the cave itself.
Hearing Flint, Alvara ponders. "A dozen? That sure could overwhelm us if we get stuck inside with 'em..."
Seeing Eranimus' expression, Alvara regards Barek, also a little doubtful of the goblin's persuasive abilities and whether this plan will work or if it will instead alert all the goblins to their presence.
"Hey Barek, take my buddy along with you when you go in... for moral support." With an open palm, Alvara summons her familiar, currently taking the form of a brown bush rat in her hand.
"Everyone, this is Archimedes, but you can call him Archie. Archie, everyone." The rat appears to look at each member of the party and the goblin, slowly combing his whiskers with a paw, almost reminiscent of an elderly man stroking his beard.
(( What clothing is Barek wearing? Does he have sleeves/long pant legs/something loose enough that a rat could hide in? ))
Alaric grimaces, "I worry that we may be sending our new friend Barek into more trouble than he can handle... And bring more trouble onto our heads than we can mange."
"Perhaps, could.... Might Archinedes be able to do a little exploration on his own?"
Eraminus smiled, "Greetings Archimedes." Rats similar to these had been common in the camps while on campaign, as were the cats brought along to mouse them. This rat however seemed to be more intelligent than those and almost bear its own personality.
The path seems a little, odd, now. Up until now, the path has been clean of foliage, but this part, is covered in leaves, twigs, and other small items.
Barek can fit Archimedes in the pocket the map was in.

Alvara smiles in agreement. "Good thinking, Alaric."
Turning to the rat in her hand, she asks, "Whaddya say, Archie? Think you're up to do some exploring of your own after hitching a ride in Barek's pocket?"
Archie appears to nod his head twice at Alvara. Then, seemingly in response to Eraminus, he sits back on his haunches and lifts a front paw in greeting.
Alaric signals again for the party to stop, then starts examining the ground.
Suspecting another snare of some kind disguised under the leaves and twigs, he takes a stick and starts moving them around, looking for signs of a trap or perhaps a pit(?) .
Eraminus studies the ground, "Is there a way to toss a rock on it or something to set it off? Good thing we have you scouting a head, I'd probably walk right over it." Eraminus readjusts the grip upon his hand axe. He glances back at Flint and Alvara.
Now that everybody is watching him, they can see what Alaric is doing:

(I wouldn't unless its info directly relayed just to you) Eraminus watches as he probes around, "Is there any discernible way to tell if an area might be trapped?" He shifts his weight slightly.
Alaric sighs, and speaks softly, "Not really...knowing how traps are made helps me to understand what to look for -- and how to dismantle them -- but really...it's just looking for things that are out of place, I think. Things like the wire earlier, and this small section of path...it looks like it has been deliberately covered in leaves and twigs. Look at the path behind you, and ahead, and you'll see what I mean. Deliberately covered, or they never walk on this bit."
"It may be nothing. But...there might be a net, or a pit, or something else."
Alaric looks around for signs that the goblins bypass it, like they did the last one.

Eraminus nods and looks closer in investigation. He hadn't had to deal with much foraging while on campaign, as that was left for the light infantry and peasant conscripts to hand. This meant on the off hand that he never had to deal much with traps left by the enemy.

Flint heeds Alaric’s warning and joins Eraminus in taking a careful look at the area. He says, “Good thing we have yer eyes, Alaric. I used to be good a setting snares, when I weren’t so auld. I suppose a people trap would just be a wee bit bigger.” He takes a careful look at the tracks in the area, figuring that a trap is likely to be where tracks aren’t.
Survival Check: 26
As he does he remembers the early morning treks he would take with his father along frigid beachside trails around their home. As they walked, they would check the snares they set for small animals.
Alaric smiles, "Aye, I have to admit I'm more used to complex contrivances you find in cities. These...they seem more like simple animal traps -- so far, anyway."
"Me no talk good, but me try for gold." The goblins says. "For friends to course." He adds.

Alaric shrugs, uncertain. "It just doesn't look right...I'm not sure."
Alvara stops at Alaric's signal and looks at the surrounding trees for any signs of ambush.
