Seeing Alaric reach to loosen Barek's gag, Alvara moves to stand directly behind the goblin. Out of Barek's line of sight, she pulls out her quarterstaff, ready to knock the goblin unconscious if this was a trick. Their proximity to the goblin den made her uneasy, as a yell from Barek would likely be enough to alert the other goblins.
Alvara lets out a breath she did not realize she had been holding and stows away her quarterstaff. "Thank you, Barek," she whispers.
Turning to the party members, she speaks quietly. "I've studied pit traps in books before but I've always been curious about the construction... it's probably best for us to go 'round... unless we have something heavy enough to set it off without falling in ourselves."
Stepping away from Barek, Alaric asks Alvara (who is nearby I think) to keep an eye on him, then signals Flint and Eraminus to come closer.
"I'm not sure Barek will be much use to us any more. We could consider lowering him into the pit. If we die and he is discovered he could say he fell in, and was knocked unconscious (he has the bruises to prove it). If we live, we come back and free him."
"I will accept any decision, but I think it's worth considering....thhink about it and discuss it with Alvara."
With that he walks back to Barek and nods to Alvara, "Flint and Eraminus have something to dicuss with you. I'll watch over Barek."
Eraminus listens closely and ponders it over before stepping back over to Alvara. He whispers, "Alaric is of the impression that we should leave Barek in the pit trap so that he won't tip them off, but we could always come back and get him."
He glanced over his shoulder at the goblin and the rogue. "I think that it would be wise, especially if the pit doesn't have spikes in the bottom. I don't know if he wouldn't tip them off or try to shoot us in the back."
With a pensive look, Flint seemingly thinks out loud as he talks to Alvara and Eraminus, “I was hoping to use Barek to avoid some bloodshed. But, such plans seem to put us or he in more danger.” He points to Eraminus, “As ye said, we don’t really know if we can trust him, and giving up the element of surprise would be costly.”
Flint snaps out of his deep thought and glances between Alvara and Eraminus, he says “I think I like Alaric’s plan. Should we look into that trap?”
Alvara nods solemnly, "A shame with how helpful he's been but I agree leaving him here might be the safest route."
To Eraminus' point, she looks at the ground where Alaric had indicated the trap was set and then at the goblin, "Do you think we can spring the trap and then lower Barek down afterwards? The books depicted this type of trap having spikes at the bottom and I'd hate to impale the guy after all the help he's been... especially since he doesn't look like he could take many more hits..."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Eraminus smiled at her tenderness, a trait that could be show more often by more people, "I'll look for a rock to drop into it, if it has spike then we'll lash him to a tree so that he is safe." Eraminus took a glance around to find a rock to drop into the trap.
Eraminus groans as he drops the rock before glancing down into the pit, "The pit is clear of any spikes, looks more of a trap meant to catch rather than kill." He walks over to Barek and ties a rope around his torso to lower him down, "We'll come back and free you once we have dealt with Klarg. We'll do our best to not kill most your kin but if attacked we'll have little in the way of options." Eraminus begins to lead him over to the pit to lower him down.
As Eraminus places the rope around Barek, Flint gives Barek a hearty slap on the back and says, “I’ve never met a goblin I like as much a ye, I thank ye for yer help.” With a smile, Flint adds “Well, the part after you shot this one in the shoulder that is.” Flint slips a gold piece into Barek’s pocket.
Alvara chuckles to herself, heart warming at the party's friendly treatment of the goblin. Rummaging around in her backpack, she takes out the thin blanket from her bedroll and drapes it as best she can over Barek before he is lowered.
"To keep you warm if we run late! And give you a little camouflage while you're waiting," she smiles, certain the goblin would eagerly face any cold night for the gold coin Flint had just given him.
Eraminus smiles before lowering him down to the base of the hole. He then tosses the end of the rope down. Eraminus turns back to the party, "Mind if we take a quick rest? My shoulder is throbbing."
"Please rest while we deal with Barek...then we can all pause to make our plan."
Alaric glances a little nervously up the path, then turns to Alvara. "Perhaps Archimedes can still scout for us...if I can get him close enough to the cave? Or might he do that himself?"
Alaric looks at Eraminus, and speaks again in low tones, "I doubt we can all sneak in...and Barek seems suprisingly decent, not at all what people would have you believe about goblins. But I doubt he will end up doing more than raising the alarm when he fails to persuade anyone."
"Shall we instead try to knock as many as we can unconscious and just fight our way to Klarg? On the map, it looked like we must head north and east, then circle back south."
He sighs, not seeing any clear path ahead, "Or, perhaps, use Archimedes to find Gundren, then make our plans accordingly? It may be that we do not need to fight Klarg, but I would like him unconscious so we can ask why he did what he did."
Alaric, looks at Barek, then approaches, "You want to say something?" he says in hushed tones.
Assuming Barek nods, Alaric says, "Then speak quietly."
He glances at the others then reaches slowly (slow enough for others to stop him) to loosen the gag.

(When/if the gag is removed.)
"Barek know dis. Barek help build trap, big pit, hurt bad." The goblin whispers.

Alaric smiles, "You are a good person, Barek, and have proven yourself many times."
As he replaces the gag, he says "I am sorry to have to do this..but it will not be for much longer."
The goblin nods his understanding.

Eraminus finds an ideal rock, and drops it on the trap. The covered part of the path falls into a 7ft deep trap, but without any spikes.
