Seeing Allister attacking and punching the Cleric, and not knowing why, he decides to try and stop the attack before the fighter goes too far. Moving quickly within range he casts hold person in the hope that the spell will stop the attack, and allow Allister and Nenne a bit of time to calm down. Then again, it could just refocus his ire....
ooc: for the avoidance of doubt, I've cast this on both Allister and Nenne in an attempt to stop them (he's not quite sure which one is the antagonist) - the magical equivalent of throwing a bucket of water over them
As the last one of the swords disintegrates, Vargach hears more fighting noises. The woman who tried to heal him is being pummeled by the man that screamed at him. The lizardfolk knows he wants to help her, but also needs to avoid turning the entire group against him.
He devises a plan to come to her aid. He leaps off of the low wall next to him, reaching for the rope above that holds some small decorative flags. His hand comes up slightly short though, grabbing a hold of only thin air. Landing only somewhat graciously, he sees the man restrained by what appears to be a spell. He rushes in, grabbing the woman and pulling her some 10 feet away. Trying to repay the favor, his hand begins glowing as his claw traces an arcane symbol on the woman’s battered face.
Nenne, that was cure wounds for 5 hp from Vargach.
Upset with herself for missing when a companion was in need, Eku rushes to Boosey's side after the last ensorceled sword falls to the ground, only to discover more conflict. She watches in amazement as Allister goes at Nenne. Seeing the effects of Boosey's spell triggers her to act and she interjects herself between the two companions as Vargach pulls her away. With her hands outstretched and palms facing each of them she says loud enough to invoke her meaning without yelling, "What is the meaning of this? We've just done the entire region a good deed and here you are fighting amongst yourselves? Don't sour this victory by becoming those you sought to destroy here. Find a place of reason and recognize your own failure here and now. There are good things to come of this that many of you don't even realize yet." She steals a glance at the reptilian ranger before continuing, "If we are ever to find this Soulmonger and challenge its creator, I would do so with friends and companions that I have no doubts about trusting. If this is going to be the way of things, find another guide."
As the Chultan woman walks past Sthara she comments, "I will be just outside the compound wall where the blood does not run so freely once the lot of you are done here." A short time after she departs, Worlo is spotted sitting up on the bed he was laying on. His one good hand is shaking violently and the look in his eyes is that of sheer horror. Whatever the man has endured seems to have broken him completely. He looks around at nothing as his mile long stare seems to be somewhere else. He tries to get up again, but his restraints remind him of his predicament. He looks down at the ropes and begins to sob uncontrollably.
XP is 3414 to each of you. This encompases finding the cove, xp for enemies defeated, talking your way through a solution to essentially chopped the cove's denizens by 2/3, and dedicated character personalities.
Just as he strikes again Allister feels an invisible force restraining. He tries to fight it but the blinding rage keeps him focussing. Seeing the bloodied face of his companion he comes to his senses, a feeling of self hate and dread taking him over
Leaving Allister held in the spell for the moment Boosey walks over to him and says. "Might be best if you stayed like that for the moment, let you cool down a bit eh? Then you can explain what all that nonsense was about, right?" Noticing Nenne had broken the spell and had received some aid from Vargach he bows to the cleric. "My apologies My Lady. I thought it best to immobilise both of you, lest you injure each other further. It's difficult to tell who is the aggressor in a fist fight, but", and he nods towards Allister, "I suspect Mr Angry over there may have been the instigator?" He phrases it as a question, still unsure as to what has happened between them.
To the others he says, "We should think about finding somewhere secure to make camp. There's still the matter of dealing with our other pirate friends too. You might like to know, before I was so rudely chased out of that building, there appears to be a somewhat not insignificant amount of treasure there." He smiles sheepishly. "If you go in there, you might want to check for traps!"
Paralysis overtakes her and Nenne is almost grateful for it. It gives her time to be numb.
In the corner of her eye, she sees the pirate whose life she offered up to Kelemvor. He is restored, and broken. And it was entirely her fault. Yes, she had sworn to usher him to the Fair Judge's presence if he condemned others with his inaction. Yes, she had given him ample chances to change his mind. Yes, she knew that the imminence of one's death was often the only thing that could wake a man from his spiritual indifference, and yes, she knew her god had given her power to stay the hands of death for precisely moments like these. And yet.
Had she covered her aggression and anger with a veil of holiness? Had she justified abusing her power by thinking herself generous? That war for his soul had been agonizing. He hadn't deserved to undergo that torture, not just so she could prove a point about repentance. How could she have forgotten that he was one of the people she'd been sent here to save?
This is what happens in Summer. Passion sweeps up faith and twists it to violent ends. It leads to broken bodies, broken spirits, and endless, endless suffering. This is exactly why she left them. This is exactly who she didn't want to be, anymore. As it turns out, even running to a different plane of existence isn't enough to escape.
Tears well in her eyes as her mind replays an unearthly howl.
Turning to the pirate Worlo, Boosey fixes him with an intense stare. "Well master pirate. You seem to have upset our cleric, I don't know how or why, but unless you want a repeat performance of what just happened I suggest you start talking. My guess it wasn't very pleasant, yes? For starters, are there any other nasty surprises in this compound we should know about?" He glowers at the Captain. "You might want to think very carefully before answering as I can make things rather unpleasant for you too, understand?" Intimidation check 13 "I also heartily recommend answering any questions my friends here want to ask you."
Worlo turns a panicked eye towards the gnome and says very quickly, "There's a coffer hidden behind the stack of ale barrels in the storeroom. You have to push in the side while you open it to avoid the loaded dart. There's nothin' else. I swear! Please help me! I'll do anything. Anything!" The look in his eyes are that of a desperate man. He's still clearly in pain, but it's obvious that something has triggered in his mind. He's not smiling at all now and when he's not giving a pleading look, he gains that mile long stare.
After the paralysis lifts its grip on Allister he gets to his feet, leaving his weapons behind, and runs to the tavern. He grabs the bottle he sees, drinks most of it and sits on the nearest table, brooding and lost in his inner turmoil
As her first tear falls, Nenne blinks and returns to her senses. She sees the reptilian man and vaguely remembers his attentiveness to her injuries. "Thank you," she says to Vargach. "I am grateful for your kindness."
After this, she walks over to Worlo and kneels before him. Her skin grows even darker blue as she hangs her head. "I do not deserve to ask for your forgiveness until I atone for what I subjected you to. That presence clawing at your soul...it is abhorrent to me and to the god I serve. I...I will right this. With everything I have, I will right this."
Nenne picks up the weapons Allister left behind. "Please, friends," she says to the group. "Allow me to speak with him first. I will answer your questions fully once I make amends."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Sthara walks back to Boosey and to Worlo as the latter reveals the location of the hidden, trapped cache. Once he's through explaining, Sthara squats down and speaks to the pirate.
"Ey, pirate Worlo, tell me who this V.S. is who signed the letter about your condition and the Heart of Ubtao."

Persuasion if needed: 17
She looks at Boosey and shakes the letter mouthing red key.
Worlo clings to hope again, "I don't know. Do you think they can help me? Can you find them? What is the Heart of Ubtao? Maybe it can be used to heal me!?"
While the scene is settling down, Boosey will head back to the room with the flying swords to investigate Worlo's cache. While he's there he'll take stock of any treasure in the room with a view to splitting it between the party, and suggest Funderburk comes with him to investigate.
Looking at the hope in Worlo's eyes, Sthara smiles weakly.
"I do not know if it can heal you. It is a place–a holy place–but a place all the same. How did you come by that letter if you do not know this person?"
–––
Upon his answer, Sthara will make her way down to try and find Allister and Nenne.
Nenne quietly leaves the caves, allowing her instincts and the subtle prodding from her divine connection to guide her steps. It doesn't take her too long to find Allister in the tavern. She hovers in the doorway for a brief moment while she collects herself, then she walks over and takes a seat at an adjacent table. She places his weapons before her in silence and lets her hands rest in her lap.
"You and I are much alike," she says, looking at his rapier. "We take different approaches, but we usually begin and end in the same place. I appreciate that about you - that I can count on you to end up where you need to be." She hangs her head, letting her silvery hair fall over her eyes. "Thank you, Allister. You have no conception of what I have done, and I deserved far worse than I received. That Worlo is alive and well does not erase the consequences of my hubris. Please forgive me."
Worlo's answer reveals little as he admits that the letter was just here under his pillow with the pendant one evening.
Funderburk takes the time to search the fallen bodies around the tavern. The task proves to be of little reward for the gruesome effort. (81c, 22s, 18e, and 12g) Hearing Boosey's call for assistance, the wizard moves up to the walkway and the two companions search out the store room's treasures. The coffer is behind some barrels just inside the doorway as Worlo said it would be. True to his word, pushing the side of the coffer while opening it, disarmed the loaded dart trap seen inside. The coffer contains 58 gp, 140 sp, three black eye patches, and a vial of cloudy green liquid with a jellyfish like bubble floating in it.
The piles of coin on the table and chests nearby contain 6,400 cp, 2,500 sp, 300 gp, 60 pp, ten gold bracelets (25g each), an electrum goblet (25 gp), and two wooden scroll tubes stopped with a cork. (knock and Leomund’s tiny hut)
Allister listens to Nenne‘s apology without saying a word. After a few seconds he goes behind the bar, gets two clean cups and fills them. He walks to Nenne, gives her a cup , lifts his own as a toast and empties it. „This man brings out the worst in me. You can’t imagine the cruelties I committed under his command. It will always haunt me. I’m afraid only his death will ease my guilt, at least that’s what I tell myself to justify what I’m about to do to him.“ He refills his cup from a nearby bottle and takes a small sip. „It seems we both did the right thing for the wrong reasons here, and we have to live with it. Nenne Amharat, I accept your apology and hope you will also forgive me for my attack. You didn’t deserve it. Let’s get this behind us. We have things to do, we need to sort out how to go on from here and can’t have our misdeeds threaten our mission. Come one, let’s meet the rest before anyone thinks we’re doing something indecent.“ He smiles at her, claps her arm and starts towards the stairs.
Vargach likes the cleric, even though her actions make little sense. She burns the pirate, then she apologizes. She gets beaten up but runs after the guy. He was unsure if aligning with her would aid his survival chances, though she had helped him, which was worth a lot in his books.
Boosey seemed to wield considerable power, maybe he was in charge, the ranger thought. He approached him and said: “Good fight. You’s strong. You’s help Vargach kill pirates. More to come. I see two ship leave. Return soon they will.”
He paused to deliberate how to phrase his next request: “Pirates bad. Steal food and breeding ground from lizard. This my tribe’s cove. We used to breeding here. We need back.”
He does not care much for the loot, though he can tell the others do. If he is to have his part of it, he thinke it might wield some negotiation power.
