Is it intended that it feels longer than 10 minutes in-game? If I feel like this is taking too long I push my way into the house, informing my companions of a bad feeling and asking for their support.
If thwe sailor shows up, I try to figure out if whatever he´s telling is true. Insight check 10
The soldier glances to the skies as if talking about the pterafolk was going to make them appear at this very moment. "Aye, Pterafolk. Savage things that attack from above. They're wings are each as big as a man or bigger. They've got thick skin and an elongated head that ends in a beak sharp as a spear. If that isn't bad enough, if you are even unfortunate enough to find yourself a passenger in its grip, they take you up high and just let you go. Splat!" Sthara nods through his explanation indicating that she's heard of these creatures as well.
Boosey and Sthara:
Because of the high history roll, Boosey recalls this bit of information and Sthara would know from experience that these things are a primitive race, but maintain a healthy intelligence that elevates them from beast-like motives.
The soldier excuses himself as it becomes clear that Allister needs the attention of his party. Ten minutes have come and gone and the captain has not returned as he said he would. The double doors into the structure stand open and people still filter in and out occasionally. If anything is wrong, it doesn't appear to have involved anyone else as far as any of you can tell.
Yeah, I am trying to get a feel for which times we're most collectively active. I believe those of you in the UK and Italy are six hours ahead of me on the eastern US coast. Not sure about the rest yet. If anyone feels like they want to back up a bit because you missed something, feel free. It's a bit clunky with play by post. I like this story direction though. You guys are awesome.
Funderburk and Clove: There is much to see in the market and time passes by quickly, as these sights are mostly new to you having never been to this part of Faerun. While you are wandering through the myriad of people and wares cries of alarm begin to shout out ahead of you. The source of the panic becomes apparent when the crowd parts revealing a man wrapped in blood stained rags, as a mummy would be. The wraps cover most of his arms and can be seen peeking out of his brown tunic to wrap around his shoulder. His face is marred by open sores and it looks as though it hurts for him to walk. He spots the two of you and makes his way towards Funderburk. He says is a dry, hollow voice, "Please, help me! I've nowhere else to turn. Why have the gods done this?" He is coming very close and looks intent on grabbing onto Funderburk for support.
”Ah. I’ve heard of these beasts, even if I did not know their name.” He fights to hold in a shudder. “There are always tales, some are more believable than others. We told tales of them to frighten youngsters round the campfire of an eve. Some would curdle your blood...I never thought them to be true!”
As Allister grabs the groups attention, Boosey looks towards the open doors of the Harbourmaster. “It doesn’t look like your captain fellow is coming back. If you think you would recognise him we could go in and look - maybe even persuade him to come back out?” He gives a mischievous grin. “Gentle persuasion, of course!”
"This is taking too long. Let´s check out what´s going on in there" I describe the fellow to the rest of the group. ""Ok, time to take a look." I step inside, waiting for the others to follow me and scan the room. Perception check 18
It's not hard to locate the captain once you pass through the double doors. Off to the right side as you enter is a counter near a few writing desks. The room is open on the left which gives way to the warehouse. The air in here is noticeably cooler and far less humid than it was outside. Leaning up against the counter, the flaming fist captain is speaking to a dragonborn. The two of them are pointing at a document laid out on the counter between them. A pair of half-elves are clearly frustrated talking to a human man at one of the writing desks. One of them looks on angrily as the other claims that "it's just too much." You quickly put any of their business out of your mind though as the captain spots you, says something low that only the dragonborn can hear, and gestures to your party with his red, plumed tricorn hat.
The gold dragonborn runs a hand along his scaly chin as he stands erect from the counter. He motions for the lot of you to come closer and says, "You there! I would have words with you." His voice is deep and soothing and his tone comes across as a mix of authoritative, calm and curious. The captain smiles contentedly next to the dragonborn. He watches the party with what might be amusement as he still leans easy against the counter.
I whisper „This is getting better every minute.“ I look to Sthara „If you know this dragonborn please tell me quick.“ Then I turn Boosey and Herman „Let me do the talking, I don’t want you to get involved. Yet.“ I take another step inside and say „And I would have words with this smug piece of sahuagin shit next to you. You owe me 10 gold pieces.“
Ooc: sorry for not responding much. First time playing. Havent figured out responses yet. I'll try to be a bit more active when I've got time. Also how do I roll and make those little spoilers
OOC works fine if it's easier for you, but if you're playing on a phone, the format bar probably isn't shown. There is a dice roller and a spoiler tag in the format bar, which can be seen on a tablet of a pc screen. I have had some success turning on desktop view on my phone to get those things to work. You can also type rolls in like this: [ roll]1d20[ /roll], but remove the spaces inside the brackets.
ooc: if you’re on a phone and turn the screen to the horizontal, you should see the format bar appear. It makes typing a pig though!
to make the spoiler highlight, the text you want to hide and select the ! Symbol from the bar. It’s a good idea to type everything you want in first and edit at the end as the system can be a bit buggy.
don’t worry too much about the posting rate - you’ll get the hang of it!
And don’t worry about your answers. Go with what comes to mind first, and then think again in character. Seriously, you have a concept, feel free to act and post accordingly.
The captain dramatically feigns shock and covers his heart in a fake 'I'm wounded' motion. "And here I thought we were friends just getting to know each other. Your words are like swords, sir!" He chuckles and unclasps his red cloak, neatly folding it on the counter as the dragonborn cuts in. Even though the dragonborn let the man finish, there is definitely a sense of interruption as the dragonborn speaks, "Save it, Horace, I could really use the extra help here, and it appears we have a unique outlook in the matter with these ones." The dragonborn tips his head in approval at Sthara before continuing in common, "Allow me to start over. My name is Zindar, and I am the Harbormaster here in Port Nyanzaru. I extend to you any apologies if Horace has ruffles any feathers here. He has a way of doing that..." He trails off, giving the captain a disapproving, but playful glare. "You see - this ship you're asking about...You know more about this than you're letting on I imagine, since you so graciously asked Captain Horace here to snoop around for you? Since you are here in this port now, I am going to go out on a limb and be bold here. I ask you plainly, what are you intentions with this ship? I believe we can help each other."
I shrug my shoulders and say to Herman and Sthara “Any idea what’s going on? The Flaming Fist Captain certainly seems smug”
ooc: is there anyway I could get closer to the counter to sneak a look at the document without it being obvious? Sort of sidle round unnoticed while the two of them are focused on Allister?
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Boosey: 23
The counter is a bit lower than is standard, probably because this is a logistic hub and these things tend to get heavy. As the situation takes on a friendly tone it's easy to get closer with the rest of the party and sneak a peek at what it lying there. There are a few parchments here that look to be ledger entries with ship names and dates. Various information like the type of ship and carried cargo is also listed.
Your peek seems to go unnoticed and you gather that there are small stars penciled in beside a galleon called Drunken Triton on each of the parchments.
I sneak a look at Sthara "That´s why I distrust people" and smirk. I mockingly unclasp a non existing cloak, unbuckle imaginary pants and shirt while I turn my attention towards the harbor master. "I have to apologize for making my inquiries in this way, but as you can guess in my former line of work you don´t openly state your affairs to strangers. My name is Allister Halving, former first officer on the Murderous Mermaid, and I´m here to find and kill Worlo Seafist."

As the wounded man makes his way towards Funderburk, he side steps to the right of the man, one arm holding his left forearm, and one on his back (in a comforting gesture, but also being warry of a possible attack/grapple). "Speak, and I shall listen. What had happened? Who or what has done this to you?" Funderburk is warry about his cuts, trying to stay clear of them, in order to stray from a possible disease.
As the man nears, Funderburk also studies the wounds on his body 16

Sthara, can you roll a history check, please?
"Let me think..." Sthara wraps her index finger around her chin as she runs through any and all Dragonborn she might know.

Seemingly no one resembling this fellow comes to mind. She raises a hand up towards him and waves. In draconic, she says,
"One of golden-scale, tell me your name? This fellow wishes to know who you are."
She motions to Allister.
