As the cube meets solid resistance as he pushes, it slips slightly on the pedestal. Having moved it, he picks the cube up, turning it over in his hands, looking closely at each side in turn.
"If ye all agree, I say we came fer what we wanted, now we should head back ter camp. Rest there fer the night, then head back to that there temple we nev'er completed." Lemon turned around and began walking towards the door, fanning his hand for someone to help with the doors along his way.
Boosey nods to the Dwarf. "Before we go. Orvex! Can you make a rubbing of each side of this cube for us, please." He turns to the rest of the party, "Just in case this thing decides to vanish as well. It might be an idea if a fresh pair of eyes looks it over before we leave too" He hands the cube to the scribe. "As soon as he's finished, we should go."
Orvex happily creates a rubbing of the cube for his notes. Tension rises as the cube leaves the shrine, but nothing changes. It seems as if it can be taken without any issues. The trek back across the city is a pleasant one. Since the party was in Unkh's shrine the wind and rain have vanished and the rare occurence of a visible sun can be seen. The air is pleasant and not as humid as it has been - perfect hunting conditions.
Allister and Lemon step up onto the fallen tree to make the 100' pass over the river when a single, grey tabaxi pops up from the other side of the river using the tree roots as cover. His longbow is drawn and aimed towards the party. He wears a plume of feathers atop his head and appears to be lightly armored.
As the tabaxi appears at the other end of the crossing, Boosey quickly runs out onto the bridge, shouting "Hold your fire." As he gets about half way across he casts hold person on the bowcat hoping to stop it in its tracks. He shouts "We won't hurt you if you don't attack us. Hold your fire, and you'll live!"
The feline humanoid shakes of the stiffening spell with determination and finishes his shot. The spell put his muscles all wrong for the follow-through and the arrow dunks into the rapids beside the log. Cursing at the miss, the creature hides down behind the bits of exposed root, but he is still visible through an opening he didn't seem to notice.
Hide roll was a 10, so he's not hiding from anyone with that. He does has lots of cover though. He did not move.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Nenne darts forward and plants herself directly in front of the bard to shield him from further arrows. She glares at the tabaxi and shouts, "We had no quarrel with you, archer, but we will defend ourselves, make no mistake!" A jet of divine flame erupts from her raised mace toward the hunter. (Sacred Flame for 10 radiant damage on save.)
Orvex winds up a sling bullet in the borrowed sling, letting it fly out towards the hiding enemy. To his credit, the projectile lands inches from the opening. Three inches to the left and he would have his the sneaky tabaxi. He calls out in a voice loud enough for the party, "Why is he attacking us? Do you know this man!?"
"A cat?!" Lemon starts rushing forward as well, he stops when he is to the side of Nenne and tells her, "I wish to not harm this cat. He seems to be misunderstandin' us fer some intruders possibly. This 'ol body of mine will walk forw'ard an' hope he will be willin to listen." After speaking with Nenne, Lemon calmly walks forward shield still in hand, however having a calming face. "Fer the life of ye cat, listen to us! Me friends and I mean no harm for comin yer way!" (I'll stop at G5 top right; 50ft because of dash, bonus action to change face on shield).
Boosey moves forward on the log to see if he can get a better view of the Tabaxi. Spotting him in amongst the vegetation he shouts over , "Hey cat, are you always this stupid or are you just making a special effort today?", sending a bout of vicious mockery his way. "We don't want a fight, just leave us alone and we'll be on our way!"
The tabaxi winces in pain, glaring at the gnome. The hunter takes note of the rapidly approaching warrior and dips to the other side of the roots for a better vantage. Quickly he lines up his shot on the warrior, but switches to the gnome before firing. The arrow rips through the air in seconds, thudding into Boosey's just under his collar bone (4 piercing and 28 poison damage). The impact throws the bard onto his back, still on the massive log bridge. His form falls still and unmoving.
The hunter ducks back behind the roots, this time out of sight.
The instant Nenne sees the poisoned arrow fell her friend, she drops prone and army crawls forward 5ft closer to Boosey. "I made you a promise," she says to him, infusing her words with divine power (Spare the Dying). "You will survive this! We all will, with Kelemvor's grace!"
A shimmering light suddenly envelops her and three rays of red burst out from her holy symbol. The sacred energy soaks into Boosey, Lemon, Allister, and herself before fading. (Bless - 2nd level)
Lemon, holding out his shield, watches as the arrow rips through the air and into Boosey, knocking him backwards an onto his back, unmoving.
Within the thoughts of Lemon, he knew he has only knew these people for but hours, but he as already grown quite fond of them- including the Yuan-ti. As Lemon can't help but look behind him at the unmoving gnome, rage welds up within him. Facing now towards the assailant, Lemon roars. "Ye bastard! Ye should have aimed fer me when ye had the chance!"
Suddenly, the form of Lemon shines, his body begins to grow soft brown and white hair all over his body; antlers protrude from the side of his head and he grows massively. Finally, when the light shines away, everybody can see a Giant Elk in the place of where Lemon once stood. The only thing that resembles his old self now is the anger and love of fight within those eyes and a... bald spot squarely a top his head.
The Giant Elk rushes forward, roaring as it moves along, and slams into the hunter with the force of its antlers- taking the attempt to bring the Tabaxi down. Suddenly, the Elk rears upwards, tilts his head downwards towards the being, and rams into him. Attack: 11 Damage: 15
Allister runs across the bridge and starts stabbing at the prone tabaxi. But the giant deer-like creature is stepping in front of him, foiling his first attack. But, as it seems to be normal for Allister, he quickly regains his timing, reads the movement of the tabaxi and manages to score to minor wounds. He yells „Not today!“
Like Orvex, Sthara runs as fast as she can across the log (Move + Move as an Action). As she begins to feel winded, she shouts “Away!” (Misty Step to the roots).
When the elk leaped over the roots of the great tree, the feline instinctively threw its bow around its back and drew out two shortswords. Trying not to get trampled by the elk was one thing, but the fighter proved to be quite skilled and the three wounds it suffered from him was too much too fast. The tabaxi slices out across Allister's calf and rolls under the elk, planting the second blade into its belly. Both wounds ignite like fire as poison spreads. Using the planted weapon for leverage, the tabaxi continues his roll out from under the beast.
Before the close combatants know what is happening the tabaxi is out and away from them running towards Sthara. It leaps towards her blades drawn, but this is only a rouse and instead runs around the yuan-ti. Tucking his blades into their sheaths, he dives into the river, being carried swifty down stream.

As Boosey hefts the cube, his guess about the weight seems correct. The same snail carving is represented on all six sides of the stone cube.
