Tikak starts heavy breathing for a few seconds, then slowly sits down and starts taking deeper and deeper breaths. Once he is a bit calmer, he looks down at his feet and then off to the griffon he'd killed. His face drops again. "They killed our horses. Why do I feel bad for them?"

Rianath, you head off in the direction of the horse relying more on your vision than your tracking skills. Your adrenaline allows you to focus and after many minutes of walking, you find the horse aimlessly walking around a small patch of forest. The horse, once used to your presence, approaches you and bows it’s head, allowing itself to be led. On your journey back, the snow fall and brief gusts of wind have covered your tracks. You spend much more time trying to find the cavern, only to find more snow and desolation. Rianath, in the intense cold I need you to make a CON Saving Throw.
The rest of the group, you all notice that it’s been way too long since Rianath went off and he should’ve been back by now.
(Would his background feature Wanderer be of any use here? Not sure how to link it like the mouseover for skills, but specifically "You have an excellent memory for maps and geography, and you can always recall the general layout of terrain, settlements.." Con Save: 21 )

Definitely. To keep it in canon with the group conversation I will say that it takes you a bit of time to retrieve the horse and you are able to find your way back while avoiding the dangers of the cold. A few minutes before you return you notice a bright light that serves as a beacon for your groups location.
I pray over the horses and thank them for their service and life. Yet, inside of me felt a little guilty. I was the last one to leave the horse. "I should of been out here."
Rianath leads the horse, patting its neck and rubbing at it's nose as they move, praising the beast for its quick thinking and getting to safety. When he spots the light flashing ahead, he lets out a sigh of relief. "Almost there, friend. Jus' a little bit farther, eh," he coos gently, giving its neck a firm pat and scratch.
As they clomp closer, Rianath calls out to the others. "Found this one!"
Tikak runs up to the horse and is about to jump on it to give it a hug when he realizes that may not be the best idea. He slows and pets the horse as high as he can reach, on its neck. "Yay, you found one! Maybe we should stay out and keep a watch over them for the rest of the night?"

Rianath looks over the scene, eyes falling on the slaughtered horses. He lets out a sorrowful sigh, nodding to Tikak and Celia. "Aye, if they don't get moved inside, we'll need to have someone out here to watch. An' this cold could be just as deadly an enemy as another pack of griffons."
He then moves over to his horse to rub at his neck and face. "What about you, eh? Anythin' that needs tending?" he mutters quietly, checking over the horse for any signs of injuries.
Rianath, after looking over the horse you don't see any injuries. The cavern isn't large but you're able to squeeze the two remaining horses in. Many of the travelers thank you for fending off the griffons and Varic gives you all a small bow and a grateful smile. If there is nothing else anyone would like to do we can go over who wants to take the night watches. There are a total of 4 watches for two hours each, allowing everyone to get a long rest. Please post your preferred watch with a perception check (and feel free to RP this, I just wanted to expedite the process).
Varic steps in and says, “I’ll take the third watch. Its the least I could do after you saved us.”
As the night goes on and you all take your respective watches, the rest of the night goes on uneventful and you’re all able to get some much needed rest. As you all awake (except for Celia, you’ve been awake on watch) the travelers are beginning to pack up and load their belongings into the carriage.

After inspecting the horses, the horse that remains tied up is Rianath’s horse. The other two dead horses belonged to Celia and Af.
Celia gently strokes her dead horse, "Sorry girl... we should have brought you all the way into the cave..." she looks very upset.
