"If you say so." Rubin says with a shrug. "Now, back to our original topic... Do you want to walk up to the place and just knock, or are we going to climb down into the canyon and have a look around first?"
(Less froze up, and just look very confused, followed by very thoughtful. Both he and I(the player) are confused though about what spell she's talking about. As the only one I can think of he actually casted that involved her was Pass Without Trace. The Lesser Restoration had been cast on Marros, and I cannot remember who was given Bardic Inspiration atm. But, he wouldn't consider that a spell.)
Not all expecting to get yanked down for anything, Xan puts forth little in the way of resistance. At each point up until his own, the earth genasi slowly in understanding, only to squint at her by the end. "Candlestick maker? Now dat don't make a lick of sense. How I'm s'pose to remember someth'n like that?" He asked, genuinely sounding confused while rubbing at his forehead.
"Let's stick with Bob. Nice. Simple. And, its only 3 three letters!" This he says while raising fingers at each point. Then, if she still held him, he asks quite plainly, "Now, ya gonna let me go, or ya work'n up to kiss me or somethin'?"
If she long since let him go, or after that nonchalantly asked question, he turns to Rubin while thumbing Tyde's direction. "I believe Mr. T-er, Baker, uh.. dude... said somethin' bout sending his owl fer a looksie in terms of a way down into the canyon first. Unless ya wanna take the short cut down?"
"If this place is that dangerous that we aren't going to go straight in the front door, what in the Lower Planes are we doing here?" He voices his concerns. "I mean, I'm with you no matter your choice, but..."His voice trails off a little.
His worries soon to to amusement when Kethra schools Xan on the nicknames. "Bahaha. You guys are funny. Butchers and a candlestick maker called Bob. This is almost as good as a play I once saw."He continues to chuckle.

"Hey!" pipes up a voice that's not too happy with being brushed aside, "I just got an idea to get us all inside. And it'll put those annoying little snapping fingers to good use too. But Marros is right, we shouldn't stay too long in the open while we wait for Allistair."
(Ahh... I vaguely remember that. But, for the lulz, it was such a small moment that I'll still say that Xan really does not remember.)
Xan starts to answer and give Marros a sideways look, only to be drawn back by Kethra's sass. Well, her attempt at it, anyways. To which, Xan cocked his head to the side in confusion for a second, before shrugging it off while righting himself once more; hiding any, if any, of his own bashfulness behind a very down to earth half-smile.
"Cobbler? Hmmm.... Ohhh... So, that's where got Bob from." He says, chuckling to himself up until having the club shoved against his cheek. "Oww-oohh-kay... Not sure why that idea required me gett'n poked, but uh... sure. What'cha got fer us, Ms. Tomato?" He asked nonchalantly.

"Ok, sooooo our first priority is confirmation: Are they cultists or are they knights? If we sneak in, they're obligated to fight back in self defense and we might accidentally kill them."
"So first we're going to need an 'in'. Cobbler (Xanranzan), you know about these elemental planes these guys are so into so use your snip-snap magic to put some cult marks on yourself then walk right in there and pretend to be one of them!"
She walks up to Xan, and tosses him some rope. "Since I'm the only one who doesn't need weapons or a spell focus in a fight, I'll be your prisoner. You were so keen on spending time together, right? Tell the cultists you're in a real hurry."
"Next, we need a time limit. Once you confirm they're cultists, Baker (Tyde) and Sailor (Marros), we'll count on you to sling some flashy magic to put out their torches. That way they can't come out on their flying creature shooting arrows, but it'll also let Miner (Rubin) sneak in with us and let you in from the inside."
"If they're not cultists and they draw swords on Xanranzan, we'll leave him be, he can take care of himself...kidding! Kind of...still aim for their torches either way so we can get out of there. Later on, you guys can go talk to them and we'll settle it from there."
Xanranzan rubs the back of his neck with his one free hand and looks away sheepishly. "Yea... uh... about that. Remember what that one guy back with the water folks say about the other cults? It's kind of.... tenuous relationship to say the least, right? It's why we left that sign, right? For some in fighting? Weeellll... the thing about that, is that if these folk at the spire ain't connected to the earth plane, which if they have flying creatures that AIN'T gargoyles, they most certainly aren't.... uh... at best, they'll turn me away before I can really say anything, symbol or symbol."
"At worst, they'll pretend to trust me, only to chuck both our butts off the roof at the first opportunity... assuming they don't decide to capture and possible torture me for, uh... intelligence on their rivals. Which, I got magic to help with the falling bit, but that might still leave us in a bit of a pickle after landing." He explained. "'Sorry, uh... Butcher. Just the way it is. Air don't like earth. Fire don't like Water. And the feeling is mutual on both sides." Xan adds and shrugs.

Kethra shrugs. "It doesn't matter whether if they're from the cult of water, earth or whatever. The only thing we need confirmed is that we don't accidentally kill any knights from the big city of Waterdeep."
Frowning, Xan starts to answer Kethra until hearing Tyde's remark. And finding it easier to answer he says, "Well, yea. T'is why I asked if'n Shadow there wanted to take a shortcut or not." Then looking back to Kethra with a frown he says, "Look, I.... even if they are, I.... I can't.... I can't do like stuff like that... Not again." He finally admits. Kethra shakes her head, goes up to Xanranzan to take the rope from him, then gives his shoulder a comforting squeeze. Then she punches it.
"Also, quit messing around. If you're sharp enough to tell what your real secret name is, then you're sharp enough to tell that I'm The Blacksmith."
"No need for distress, my friend. For if they are indeed knights of Waterdeep then all is well and we can warn they of the increased cult activity in the area."
Tyde looks toward Kethra with a shrug before continuing, "But if they turn out to be cultists then we have to root them all out, nook and cranny."
At Mr. Tyde's words she finds her resolve and takes up her sword and salutes him.
"That's right. By their own words, these cults seek to end the world as we know it, so we'll have to get our swords dirty sometimes."
Turning to face Xanranzan again, she explains, "Taking prisoners is really important so we can learn information. Or, you know, find out if letting them go won't hurt us in the future. Remember the guy I knocked unconscious at Rivergard, not too far from where we found you? I let him go, remember? I always let them go if they're not a bad person. If we take another prisoner it's totally fine if you need to walk away...but next time I promise not to drag it out or do what we did with Quanderil. Okay?"
Walking to the warrior of light, the white haired girl's confidence seems to deflate and she fidgets nervously.
"Marros, mind switching places with Xan? If this is anything like the last 'old keep' we've been to, there would be a lot of archers lurking behind arrow slits, mostly sellswords who have no idea that their weirdly dressed bosses are a cult. Unless...Mr. Tyde do you have any other suggestions?"
"I-I... huh... Where did I get butcher from?" He mumbled, genuinely appearing confused for a second, despite having heard the source not even a full two minutes ago. Although he is soon brushing aside the question to regard both Tyde and Kethra with a thankful half-smile. "I mean, yea. I-I.. I mean I get it, Ms., uh, Blacksmith. "So long as I don't have to hold anyone's reigns, as it were, I'll... I'm good." Xanranzan said, finally finding the words.
He also put forth a weak but assuaging smile before conversation moved back to the mission. "Mn. And I'll be right behind ya, Mr. Shadow! Lead on!"

Kethra narrows her eyes at the absolutely hopeless man, wraps the rope around her wrist then tightens it with a very audible sound reflecting her irritation.
"I can lead the way if you want." Rubin says, moving onto the trail and starting down.
Taking this rope once around a tree near the gorge, she tosses the other end down the cliff path Allistair discovered, helping Rubin and anyone else* who wants to follow with climbing down.
Figuring the lack of help to just be confidence in the Earth Genasi's own abilities, Xan just smiles thankfully when it came to his turn heading down to the next level, and following along after Rubin.

Xan smiles in bemusement back at Marros. Yet for all his confusion, he said nothing as they carried on into the canyon one way at another. Later on when Tyde signals the group be quiet, Xan looks down to his armor.. and then over to Marros' armor... then finally looks to Tyde and slowly nods while cringing throughout the motion.
