Hearing the cries of where to head to next from above, Jorah turns his head towards the surface, before looking back to the wererat child in front of him. Giving him a pat on the head, he states, "Sorry for stabbing you. Stay safe out there." He then begins to scurry out of the area, moving to meet up with the rest of the party on the street above. When he returns to the party, he simply merges back in, and some members with lower perception might not even notice he had returned to the group as he doesn't announce himself.
The group finds itself on the street in front of the Dragon.
They stay a bit out of sight as not to attract to much attention and decide to head for the Candle Lane.
Judging from the reaction of the "bar ogre" if the Dragon caters to Zent it would probably safe to assume that they will know you are coming sooner than later. Provided they are the ones behind all of this.

Black winged snake is the symbol of the Zhentarim.
Hurrying to Candle Lane the group finds himself before a narrow alley. Gloom envelops the way making it almost as dark as a dungeon — and as odorous as one, too. Nearly all the streetlamps have been smashed. The only light that pierces the darkness is a faint flickering from down the lane, like a distant candle.
The buildings on either side of Candle Lane are so tall and so tightly packed together that light touches the street only at highsun.

Davik thinks hard about the snake symbol they were told about. Intelligence: 11
He says to Even and the group in a whisper, “You think this snake symbol we’re looking for could be the Zentharim emblem? If so we may be getting involved in things far bigger than we fist thought...”.
Davik looks down the dark alley from where they stand, using his darkvision to scan around for the snake symbol. Perception: 18
(OOC: if the alley is properly dark rather than dim, with darkvision this would be at disadvantage, so here’s a 2nd roll if needed: 4 ).
Davik is trying to be stealthy this whole time too. Stealth: 9

Duncan follows along with the others, keeping an eye out for threats. The last bar seemed both interesting, and dangerous at the last time. And judging by the way the Waterdeep natives in the group respond to the area, he needs to keep his eyes out ((perception 20)), though with it being a bit dark out, it's hard to see much.
He sees the snake symbol and thinks back to some discussions he had with his instructors ((7)). Though he didn't study much, knowing the main factions in the North was important enough to note, so he recognized this symbol, and understood that this was clearly more than just a small group of thugs. That said, he's more curious than afraid, he starts walking down the alley looking for for the same snake symbol on any warehouses.
Davik catches up with Duncan before he can get too far into the dark alley and whispers “These are forces bigger than us, friend... let’s keep to the shadows for now and stay out of sight if we can eh?”. He shuffles with him against the nearest building as they creep forward slowly, still looking for the symbol.
He also gestures to some of the others to take the other side of the street, and points to the roof and shrugs, indicating that a vantage point or lookout might not be a bad idea.
He’s also not moving too far ahead, realising that there may be others in the team more suited to approaching unseen.

Davik frowns at Even’s response. Until now he’d made sure to give the city-gangs a wide birth. But now it looked like he was heading straight into the middle of their business. He’s glad he asked for more gold for the job, but the thought is quickly replaced by a slight sense of foreboding...
Realising (belatedly) that a number of his party may have more difficulty in the shadows than him, he moves up towards the front of the party to lead the way.
He quietly slips his small shield from his back and straps it to his arm as he goes, making sure to angle it down so that it doesn’t glint in the darkness.
He makes a point now (as they sneak along the alley), of properly checking everything out as the move forward: looking for potentially abandoned buildings, for sewer entrances, for anyone that may be lurking, through any nearby windows, and of course mainly looking for this snake symbol...
Ser Knewt nods as Even whispers to him about summoning a light source. He flashes a toothy grin at the fair looking young man, his face shadowed in the darkness as the group moves further along the alley. Ser Knewt says in his nasally voice, "Of course my friend. One moment." Ser Knewt draws a copper coin from his purse and casts Light upon it. He then presses it in Even's hand. Ser Knewt says, "Simply conceal the coin should you wish to douse the light, friend." Ser Knewt nods at Even and moves further ahead away from the light, thankful for his goblin heritage and vision for seeing in the dark.
Davik pauses and kneels with Ser Knewt for a second as he approaches (glad to have another with keen eyesight at his side)... “Can I have one of those too?!” he asks. He burries one of his own coppers in his hand to instantly shade the light and offers it towards Knewt. Assuming he can cast it again, Davik will quickly stow the coin in a handy pocket for later. “Thank you!”.
He then goes back to investigating with the goblin beside him.
Ser Knewt nods at Davik and motions to the other humans amongst the group. He takes the time to cast Light upon various coins for each of them. He cautions each of them saying, "Here my friends. Indeed Lathander provides light against the darkness. It is easily concealed as needed. The enchantment will last; but an hour. I may need to reenchant them fore our endeavor be done." Ser Knewt nods to the group as he finishes the enchantments.
Duncan had been about ready to light a torch when he suddenly saw a bright light light the area, and then disappear into Evan's hand. Smiling he walks over to Knewt, takes a coin and places it in his closed left hand to cover the light saying "Thank you." As he walks down the alley he's aware of how on alert the others are, and is ready to see what more there is to find in this city tonight.
Rubin nods as he sees the others getting some light sources in place. He doesn't mind the darkness, even though his eyesight is no better than any other human's. He knows he will need that light when, or if, combat starts, but is content to let others be holding those light sources when it comes to fighting.
Raiko joins the group properly halfway on the road to Candle Lane - they've discarded their disguise for the most part, posture upright and purposeful instead of slouching, stride confident instead of shuffling, a vivid change in behavior that rendered them a completely different person to the drunken watcher in the tavern. "Absolutely unbelievable."They mutter under their breath, referring to the tavern patrons' unwillingness to divulge information. "If someone gets killed in there, they'd help the murderer hide the corpse."
Raiko is.... not trying to be stealthy on their way to Candle Lane - but they do try to peer out of the corner of their eyes to check that no one from the tavern has been following them. Perception: 5
At the mouth of the alley, they squint into the darkness, nose wrinkled. They wince as a sudden burst of light flares up, but nods approvingly after they recovered from the sudden radiance, although they don't reach for the coins. "Much more discreet than a torch. Nice work, Ser Knewt. Good lord, this is an awful place." They add as they peer into the alleyway. 'I'm not surprised someone went missing here." They unsheath their sword as they stride into the alley.
With the light source concern resolved with Davik, Ducan, and Even carrying the enchanted coins bearing the blessing of Lathander. Ser Knewt moves to rejoin Davik at the front of the party where his natural vision would not be impacted by the boons he had disbursed amongst the party. He says to Davik as he draws near, 'I'm afraid I do not have the skills that Jorah possesses, there's not much need for stealth in a library; but I can add a second set of eyes to pierce the darkness ahead of our comrades who most rely on Lathander's blessing against the darkness." He tries to be careful where he walks to minimize his noise.
Davik places a gentle hand on Ser Knewt’s shoulder, and offers him a wide genuine smile of thanks. He looks at Knewt properly, for the first time really, and sees just a pure kindness in his eyes. And for a second he’s reminded of a goblin he once knew. A goblin who had helped him, in the darkness, when everyone else seemed to have given up on him. A friend. “Thanks Fidd”, he says, a little absentmindedly...
A second later, Davik snaps back to himself and freezes instinctively as he sees the silhouette of a man walking up the alleyway behind them, with the unmistakable gait of a law-bringer. The man walks brazenly up the centre of the alleyway: all misplaced confidence and entitlement - and he’s gaining on them.
There had been a time and place in his life when the City Guard and The Rule of Law had been celebrated. He recalls a street-party, held for the commissioning of a new Master of the Guard, in the city where he grew up when he was young. A time when he had felt safe in the presence of such Keepers of the Peace. But that had been a lifetime ago, and things had happened since then.
He closes his eyes tight and shakes his head a little, against his own thoughts. A familiar and comforting voice surfaces briefly in his mind and urges: “.....F-O-C-U-S.... ...”. When he looks back up, he sees the man is in fact just Raiko, and he relaxes a little. But only a little. It’ll take him a lot longer to get used to having a law-man on the team...
At his approach, Davik acknowledges Raiko quietly with just, “Raiko”, and a curt nod. And seeing him draw his sword, he places a hand on the hilt of his own as they continue to search the alley.
Ser Knewt looks at Davik as the elf looks lost in thought for a moment. He says to the elf, “Not Fidd. The name is Ser Knewt; but my friends just call me Knewt.” He offers Davik his taloned hand in an offer of introduction. He says, “Lathander is the patron of new begginings. Surely he supports our new burgeoning association and friendship.” He smiles up at the elf as he offers his hand.
Davik shakes Ser Knewt’s hand warmly and (in hushed tones in this dark alley, as they search onward) he apologises, “Sorry. ‘Ser Knewt’, I was miles away for a second there! You,... You reminded me of someone I once knew...”. His smile looks both happy and sad at the same time. But was that also a faint spark of static or something between their two palms? Not uncomfortable, just maybe like two magnets, but placed the wrong way next to each other...
And then he thinks a little, not quite able to make all the pieces fit together right now... “You say that you serve The Patron of New Beginnings? That’s interesting... I‘ve heard people use the same phrase to refer to the one that I... hmm... ‘worship’ is not the correct word at all! My relationship with the gods is ‘complicated’. It...They.. have many names, and I’m yet to work out where they sit in the greater scheme of things. Maybe they are one and the same! Maybe just two sides of the same coin?... like light and shade... ... ... ‘Hear hear’ to new beginnings though, and friends - new and old - either way!”.
Ser Knewt tilts his head as he reflects on what Davik has said. After a few moments he says to Davik, “One's relationship with the gods is personal. I serve Lathander, through one of his servants. I am a vessel of his divine power filtered through his servant. But that is me relationship. My brethren's relationship to Lathander is different to me own. They worship Lathander in their own hearts in their own way; but we share our communal worship together. It matters not our individual belief in Lathander or what he represents to us individually; but our shared belief in him. This is what allows us to set aside our differences to focus on our shared belief and perform great works, greater then any of us could do on our own, in his name. This is what faith is to me my friend. It need not be the same for any other; but it is mine. And that is enough." He says with a kind smile at the elf besides him.
“...and that is enough”, echos Davik, almost lost in his own thoughts again. He smiles at Ser Knewt, at that thought... It fits... It pleases him...
He likes the idea that everyone’s relationship with the gods is different, but that that’s okay...
Maybe The One that Davik follows IS Lathander.... He rolls the name around in his mind once or twice. Or at least one of His servants... But the voice in his head remains suspiciously silent.
Although he’s unaware of it, his hand is gripping the hilt of his sword a little too tight, his knuckles white, and those feint tendrils of dark smoke (or shadow) are drifting from between his clenched fingers again (unseen in the darkness of the alley).
And he can’t quite shake the fact that when Knewt says dawn, he thinks of the long shadows. When Knewt speaks about warmth and light and life, he feels just darkness and cold and death...
Just different ways of looking at the same thing, maybe, he tells himself cheerfully. Happy with a new perspective on things...
”When we have some time, Ser Knewt, maybe you could show me this house of worship of yours?”.
