The Champion tries to discern what that meant about “the gods of my plane” ... Insight 11
Faendal is confirming that he is from the Elemental Plane of Water and is a bit pissed off with Kenton calling the gods of the Material Plane "the true gods".
Beatrice will explain the Boreas again, going off on another ramble that leaves her breathless by the end.
[You might be thinking about a different ship. Yes, there are too many names to keep track of. I often have to search the thread to remember what I called a certain shopkeeper or ship.
I'll take it that Beatrice explains what happened at Flora Isle and on the Wavechaser (ship's real name Z.A. Eurus).
The Z.A. Boreas was Kenton's ship before he met you all, with its fate and the fate of its crew discussed here.]
"Speaking of gods... During the fight with the Sahuagin, the Dolphin Prince spoke to me and sent us help. Very timely, I should add. How should I go about contacting him? Maybe he can give us guidance into this affair. He did say I, or we, were on a path to end a great threat."
"Speaking of gods... During the fight with the Sahuagin, the Dolphin Prince spoke to me and sent us help. Very timely, I should add. How should I go about contacting him? Maybe he can give us guidance into this affair. He did say I, or we, were on a path to end a great threat."
Faendal looks impressed and responds "Deep Sashelas spoke to you? I have not heard tale of anyone receiving direct contact from the Dolphin Prince since he was tasked with holding back and subduing Dajobas. This is good as he must have judged you as having the power to stop Dajobas forever..." he stops and thinks for a second and worry crosses his face "or possibly very bad, because he is losing the battle to keep Dajobas contained and has chosen you at random. I do not know how you would contact Deep Sashelas. I do not even know how I would contact my own goddess, Shima The Sea Mother, though I don't think she would answer even if I were able to contact her.
(Yes, Kenton will explain everything that he recalls, though he's not the most details-oriented person!)
Faendal asks a lot of questions, so manages to get a lot out of Kenton (which the rest of the party hear as well):
Kenton was on the Z.A. Boreas on his way from Port Damali to Stilben. On the night just after the ship passed Bisaft Isle, it was hit by a violent storm. During the storm one of the crew spotted a female suhaugin seemingly standing on the water gesturing towards the Z.A. Boreas. She made a gesture, shouted something and the ship was plucked from the water where two dozen hunter sharks awaited, slaughtering everyone they could. Kenton explains that he thought it was odd, as hunter sharks usually hunt alone or at most in small groups, so them being there in such large numbers was no coincidence and would have taken a while to organise.
Only Kenton and Firische (a sea elf) survived and were rescued by Lieutenant Commander Voskiir Larth of the Moonbeam.
On the way back to Port Damali Lieutenant Commander Larth informed Kenton that there would be a delay, as they were on an intercept course with the Wavechaser (formerly known as the Z.A. Eurus). Apparently a tortle crewmember of the Eurus was rescued a few weeks earlier, being found on Rumblecusp who told a tale of the ship being overrun by pirates led by a fiery tabaxi captain and her dwarf first mate [OOC: this was pre-Mighty Nein visiting Rumblecusp on the CR stream, but is explained by the Tortle being rescued within a day and actually works with other things I have planned.]
Larth indicated that he has had operatives that had gained passage or work on a number of ships to investigate, and that one of his operatives (known as Dajarkal to all of you) had provided reliable intel that Burning Hill was going by the name Three Earrings and the ship has been painted and renamed the Wavechaser.
Now a little irritated at having to tell and retell details of a story that is actually rather embarrassing, as it involves his utter defeat, helplessness and then rescue, Kenton becomes a little short in his responses. As the stranger's questions continue, he finally sighs and says: Good sir, I think I have said enough and with enough particulars for a set of novels. Can we be done with this, please?
He seems to realise how much he's sounding like a jerk, and he changes tack. I do not mean to cause offence, but we have shared everything we know, and I know my companions share my interest in action. He taps the hilt of his sword for emphasis. There is a problem, yes. These sea devils and whatever they have allied with. The point is, what is to be done about it?
"Speaking of gods... During the fight with the Sahuagin, the Dolphin Prince spoke to me and sent us help. Very timely, I should add. How should I go about contacting him? Maybe he can give us guidance into this affair. He did say I, or we, were on a path to end a great threat."

I do not even know how I would contact my own goddess, Shima The Sea Mother, though I don't think she would answer even if I were able to contact her.
"It's probably the latter... anyway, we removed the immediate threat, at least to our knowledge. Unless you have more to tell us, our short term plans don't change. Is your underwater vehicle somehow tied into this? Do you still want what's in it?"
Faendal seems somewhat lost in thought and (fortunately for Kenton) does not seem to notice Kenton's tone.
He answers Kenton and Oden "I will need to try and think through the possibilities before I can tell you what can be done about this. I don't suggest approaching this half-cocked, as it sounds like you have only just survived combat with sahuagin and two priestesses of the cult. If you were to come across a Daughter of the Shark or other powerful member of the cult only as prepared as you are, you would surely all perish.
My vessel is unrelated to the cult or the god that they follow, though the cult being on this plane does make the recovery of... my items potentially more urgent. So yes, I still want what is in it. If you cannot commit now to help me with that task, tomorrow when I return to Brokenbank after I have dealt with the item you brought to my shop permanantly, I will find someone else to do it.
You are welcome to stay and make yourselves comfortable in one of the rooms here or I can facilitate you getting back to Brokenbank, specifically in a backroom at the Prawn's Pawn that is warded from scrying. If you go, you are on your own until tomorrow and you will need to try and figure this mess out by yourselves if you leave before I am back. If you are staying here, tell one of my staff in purple what you want your room to be and they will make it so - within reason of course. If you stay, I will have more to tell you in the morning."
[If you are staying feel free to ask for rooms and roleplay your stay within the bounds of what Mordenkainen's Magnificent Mansion can do. If not he transports you all back to Brokenbank using a small cube (he is out of 7th level spells) though does not join you.]
The Champion eyeballs the others. “I think we should return. Faendal doesn’t know what to do about all this just yet, and if it’s as dangerous as he says, I’d rather be in the town to help if something happens. But I leave that up to each of you..”
The Champion leaves the mansion and out the dimension back to Brokenbank.
Oden turns to leave as well, but hesitates, then says: "This is not urgent, by any means, but I need to find a way to deliver a message to someone far away. My brother used a spell that only worked a short distance, speak-in-head? Do you know a better one?"
He answers "yes, I have a spell with a much greater distance that messa... speak-in-head. It is only good for short messages and I don't have it prepared right now, but can prepare it for tomorrow morning. It looks like your friends have decided that you are all going back to Brokenbank though, so if you come and visit me in the shop tomorrow around this time I'll be able to help you out. If it helps against the cult there will be no charge, otherwise there will be a fee or a favour owed."
"That sounds fair. Until tomorrow!"Oden follows the others back to Brokenbank.
He says: "A lot of doom-and-gloom in that last encounter. It sounds to me there will be more underwater action if this threat is real, so it might be a good idea to hold on to these helmets. While searching for shipwrecks we might discover more clues, but it could also be dangerous, should be stumble upon more cultists. We need everyone. What are your thoughts?"
Faendal makes a gesture and a small cube appears in his hand which radiates palpable magical energy. He carefully turns the item in his hand and presses one of the sides of the cube and then (with a clearly nervous look) quickly hides the cube from sight as a circular portal around 10 ft wide opens in front of him. He says "Go through quickly, as I will not hold it open for long. Open the door in front of you by knocking 3 times slowly, 4 times quickly, 2 times slowly and 7 times quickly then wait. That is 3,4,2 and 7. DO NOT knock more than that or mess up the pattern or very bad things will happen. The door opens to the back of Bryn's store. Tell her I let you use the secret entrance. Go now!"
You step through into a darkened room with the only light from glowing glyphs covering the walls. There is a doorway visible in front of you all which has no glyphs on it.
Kenton follows The Champion, keeping his thoughts on Faendal to himself for the moment. We can talk later, somewhere more private. I would be glad to find an inn with a bed that doesn't rock to and fro on the waves. I am not much of a sailor, and I miss having the ground of Exandria beneath my feet.
Assuming someone does the knocking pattern correctly, you all emerge in the back rooms of the Prawn's Pawn and General Store. A guard who is keeping watch of the room tells you "wait here, I'll get Bryn" and returns with her a minute or two later.
Bryn looks surprised at the way you have all appeared, but pleased to see you. "Faendal let you in the side-door did he? Good timing, Renzir passed the information about your deeds on to Portmaster Fahreed and apparently managed to convince him you have saved Brokenbank from suffering the same fate as Flora Isle. He sent someone with a reward and I said I could hold onto it for you."
She hands you all a large sack which has 62 platinum, 243 gold and 81 silver and 1000gp worth of gems.
If you are looking for an Inn to stay in tonight, the options range from Modest to Aristocratic (though nothing as fancy as the magical mansion you all just left):
Modest
5 sp
Comfortable
8 sp
Wealthy
2 gp
Aristocratic
4 gp
It is only afternoon at this point, but you can rent a room straight away if you need some privacy to discuss what has happened.
The Drunken Sailor has a handful of rooms. Oden's siblings seem to have been focussing on repairing/renovating the tavern first, so the rooms won't be comfortable, but they are likely to be free.
Beatrice turns to the others. "I mean, for the past few years my bed has been whatever patch of dirt I sit down on, so if anyone has any major preferences for type of room then go ahead, because I'm pretty easy. I do think we need a room to talk about our options, though."
(we also need to split the 200gp from selling Selachai's adornments)
"Thanks for holding on to this for us, Bryn. I must say, we seem to have gotten ourselves in a very profitable business. Dangerous... but profitable.", Oden says, weighing the sack.
"Does anyone want to buy anything before we leave?"

[Yep, Beatrice got confused and rambled about the wrong ship :D]

That is actually good, as it means he will have all the details, including about the jellyfish balloons.
