After a brief sidelong smile to Leto, Mylene looks to Kierro. “You have two nominations, Kierro, and I am unsurprised. You show a willingness to settle disputes with reason rather than force and bluster. You articulate your views rather than becoming introspective and sullen. I would say they have made a wise choice - if you’re willing to accept one third of the ruling vote over this organization of ours. Are you in?”
"I think we should also probably find somewhere besides the road to have this discussion,"Honor begins, then stops as Leto says his piece. "I am sorry you feel the need to hold these items hostage, but I cannot ally myself with one I find so untrustworthy. I agree there is utility in keeping an eye on her --"she nods at Latrius "-- but even then, I don't trust her not to try and undermine whoever else is selected as a 'representative.'"

”What impeccable manners, after having threatened violence a breath ago,” Mylene says sardonically. “It’s still a step in the right direction. If Kierro agrees to be our second, there’s one seat still unspoken for. I fear to be the first to voice any particular recommendation for fear of being seen as having some secret collusion with another here...”
After a pause she adds, “But I would suggest you consider Vilana. She seems to offer an excellent middle ground, a unique perspective that sees sides others do not. Perhaps an excellent voice of reason and ‘tie-breaker’ of sorts.”
Kierro twitches at the words 'devil' and 'demon' said by Mylene. Looking back, it would be clear why, but his eyes do flicker subtly with an unexplainable light.
He listens to Leto and to Mylene's proposal, then nods. "I suppose it's for the best. However, without the input of the others," he gestures to Sylcan, Vilana, Tessa, and Honor,"I would not be able to speak for them in good faith on the 'council.'
"If we make a council, it's a formation of the ones we trust. But if that trust is broken - if the council demands that everyone do something that is clearly against what most of the rest stand for and desire, its effectiveness is lost. And that means that the trust - and the power behind it - is lost. Which means that even as a council, we can't ignore what the rest think."
In response to Leto, he says: "I do pledge my assistance. Any of us that require help, aid, anything, I vow to do what I can to fulfill it for the sake of us all."
"Well, if this is to be our only chance for everyone to speak equally, why not a written vote? You can vote to ally yourself with Mylene, or to not form two parties, or for who the third representative should be."
Leto speaks up "If a council is to be chosen then I am definitely the most neutral of the group. Though I wouldn't know what to do yet, it does seem we are all connected in some way, and I do know the need of listening to others before making a decision. You all seem to know each other, I, as of yet do not, but am a rather good judge of character. Help me help the group."
”You have the right mindset for leadership - represent your citizens and their needs in your decisions and choices while giving them the guidance they need to fulfill a greater purpose. I am sure we will work together with respect and efficacy. Now we just need a third. I’ve suggested you consider Vilana, but others may have different notions.”
”Leto would throw his hat in, as well, it seems. The first step towards leadership is always a willingness to lead. Let’s all decide on our third, given that Kierro and I are already cemented as two thirds of the commanding vote. Do any have objections to Leto? Or do most of you prefer Vilana? I’d like to see this done quickly and civilly, just know I expect the counsel’s decisions to be abided by all - including myself. Then we can move on with the dispersal of the items and the sharing of our experiences.”
It was heartwarming! So much love and reason, if Vilana could cry that would be the moment to do so - stubborn freedom loving elves and independent strong warriors forming alliance with power-hungry madwoman at the head of the bandits, what a sight! Unfortunately, Vilana felt like crying is not her forte, she was more prone to actions.
"Leto, right?" She smiled to the tuefling, "That wand you are holding is clearly my. You can give it to me - and I will be off your hair. You keep it - and I might take it with your hair. I might not, of course, there are many of you here, but what if I manage to kill you? It's possible, since I might not be alone in my wish to get what is mine. You might kill me as well, but your master will loose that supposed bond and wholeness she worries about."
"Deary," now she addressed Mylene, "that nonsense of councils, causes and leadership, you can keep to yourself. I am not about to join criminals - bad for reputation anywhere. You can play Bandit Queen all you want, but I am out of here as soon as I get my stuff."
"So, Leto, what would that be? Shall we fight for the thing you have no use of?"
Tessa cries out from the underbrush near the road where she has waited concealed and witnessed the verbal sparring
"I vote for no damn council. No one decides my fate other then me. Though Leto does have something calling to me. I will take the item willingly or unwillingly from him and be on my way. My way mind you. I believe I will be parting ways with you lot afterwards."
Naivara winces at the mention of criminals, but takes a deep breath and stands up, "Mylene herseld just said that association with the Redbrands was hers and hers alone. She isn't expecting us to work with them..."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Tessa's movements...
Tessa rolled a 15 and a 13 for stealth. If you have a 16 or higher passive perception you would have noticed her go into the bushes. If you have a 14 or better you would have noticed her move in behind Leto. Leto's passive is 13, so he notices neither. He is also standing right next to the woods, so Tessa is able to slip her hand into his pocket and grab a small box inside.
Milene you have disadvantage on the perception, as you are in a heated debate with the group, which puts a -5 penalty to your passive score. The redcloaks will not do anything, even if they notice it, as they would be more worried about the 7 others who you are having a nearly-ready-to-burst-into-battle conversation with.
Tessa: 1
Tessa remembers Milene. You know her as a woman who hunts humans for sport as her vice. She believes strongly in order and the need for structure in society, but has no empathy for others or concern for whether the systemic rules benefit the majority - only herself. She is a very social person, highly cunning and manipulative. The two of you have never seen eye to eye. You have allied with each other often though, but never as a long-lasting relationship, as your viewpoints are too at odds.

"Awww, it's so cute!" smiled again Vilana, "Did not know you can be so reasonable. Mylene, you were right, she is perfect for your council! And you, dear Naivara, can always say "I am not responsible for the crimes of those bandits, I just counselling their leader, nothing more". I am with you on that, sister - if you do not steal and kill by yourself, who cares if your friend and a college - I believe this is the word for the fellow counsellor? - does. But, sorry, that is your games, play as you like. I am here for what is mine, nothing more. Can I get it? Peacefully?"
As Latrious draws his blades the few mounted redcloaks dismount and spread out behind Milene. One of the bugbears slips into the woods, while the other two move up to stand near the grizzled beteran who was riding the warhorse earlier. No one draws their weapons yet, but hands rest on hilts.
As things seem to become a bit less hostile they would stay put, watching the group.
Just as Vilana is voicing her feelings about a council the sounds of many running feet come from further up the road, coming from the East and towards the group. A moment later a war cry sounds and a host of orcs come around the bend, with weapons raised. They are about 100 feet away, so you have time for a single action prior to them reaching you. Everyone take that action now as you roll your initiative.
(This is going to be a massive battle I fear, as, to make it worthwhile the orcs have to be quite numerous. Please roll initiative. Also be prepared to wait a tiny bit as I get the encounter set up. As for in-game reasons for this battle, you are directly North of the orc's hideout, in the peak to the South, so you can't have a lively discussion here without drawing their attention.)
