Uri presses the book upon Direcris, glad to be rid of it. “Here, you are more accustomed to looking after eldritch tomes than I”, before scouting back the way they entered the tower. “Remember the magical barriers? We may need to find an alternative way out.” Such as out the window, he thinks to himself, remembering his companions’ last attempt at climbing with dismay.
"I agree," Gadston says in a low voice. "Let's find a place to inspect this book. if we believe it is the one then let us be far from this place and deliver it to the old woman."
There is no immediate thread as the group discusses their plan in hushed tones by the base of the stairwell. The fog outside seems to be creeping higher and higher into the air.
"I'm suspicious of mists as well," Dench says. He searches for the compass that guided them here. "Will this point the way back?" he says, holding it up in front of them.
He also steps away from the base of the staircase, moving father down the hall toward the trap door to the lower level.
"So the ways to leave are open save for the choking acidic mist." he says. "And it appears our only way to travel is up." Gadston considers things for a moment. "Did anyone look out that window the lady vampire crawled out of and back in to? What does it look like out there? Is there any escape?"
Dench hands the compass to Direcris. "I didn't look out the window. Are we sure the mist outside is the same as the choking mist from earlier?" Dench does not want to go far from the group, but he moves toward another window, if there is one on this floor, and tries the window.

Direcris takes the compass and puts it in the bag. "I looked out the window when we were in the room. I saw only the mist. I didn't think to compare it to the mist we escaped." Direcris will go back into the room and look out the window again. Perception: 19
((I ain't looking anymore. Ignore the bangs you're hearing.))
Dench easily opens another windows as he and Direcris peer out into the night. The fog continues creeping up from the ground and is engulfing the area outside the window. The dragonborn can only make out basic shapes, but the fog doesn't appear to be harmful.
Uri scouts the chamber below and sees the red mist has dissipated. Although the smell of smoke lingers and the exits are still barred, the large room is quiet otherwise.
Uri returns to the others and reports what he has scouted, before nimbly climbing out of the window and descending into the fog below. If all appears benign, he will reascend and suggest the others should use a rope, offering to be the rearguard as he has no need of the rope himself.
Dench ahems at the idea of climbing. But he does look for a large object to attach the rope. "Is there a fireplace or desk or bed we might use as an anchor?" he says.

Direcris will look at the desk that is in the room. He'll look at the books resting on it, and also through the desk before moving it closer to the window.
Investigation: 14 (fingers crossed)
He blinks at the books, wonders at them, then hands them each to the others of the party to look at before moving the desk.
"I vote we get off this island and some distance from this river. I'd rather an open place to better see an attack."

Direcris blinks at finding the book suddenly in his hands. Then he nods and places it in the bag of holding. "Let us go."

“I don’t like this fog. Will we be able to find our way back? What if it is noxious?”
"Does anyone remember how high the waterfall is? Could we survive?"
"I'm suspicious of mists as well," Dench says. He searches for the compass that guided them here. "Will this point the way back?" he says, holding it up in front of them.
He also steps away from the base of the staircase, moving father down the hall toward the trap door to the lower level.
Death on the Water and Baldur's Gate Bodyguard
Holding out the compass the points of light continue to follow the books position.
Direcris raises an eyebrow, not much liking an arrow to the book. "Should we put the compass in the bag as well, since it has served its purpose?"
(Does Uri find the way they came open, or barred?)
(Yes, the trapdoor with the ladder leading to the balcony of the main room remains open.)

Uri cautiously investigates the room below the trapdoor. Does the mist fill the room? Is it as noxious as the fog before?
