A shadow separates itself from the wall and slips through the water. It's black amorphous shape nothing but darkness. Two shadowy blades lash out at Thryius as he hovers under the water.

Meanwhile above the water, two more of the skulls shriek, launching more fire at the group. Nuzej is too far from the rest of the group and the fire doesn't strike him.

Toc, now glowing very steadily, and also smoking....looks about, "This went south quickly. Enough of that!" He holds out his hand and a small glass bead appears in his fingers. From it, a faintly shimmering field expands outwards to about ten feet from him, covering the group. Mentally he says, "Protection from their fireballs."
He backs up a bit, but keeps the other three within his field. Mentally, he adds, "If you leave the field, you won't be safe, but you can cast spells from within if you wish."
As if to demonstrate, another skull sends a blaze of fire at the group a moment later. The fire explodes just at the mouth of the cave, and seems to hug the shimmering sphere, exploding all along the outside of it, without touching the group within.

The skulls were resistant to fire, but what of the holy light? Mirica stepped closer to the border of the protective barrier and summoned the gift of the Morning Lord.

The entire left side of the chamber is suddenly filled with blazingly bright sunlight. Holy energy washes off of the area like a soothing balm...but the skulls crack and splinter under the pressure of the light. They are still moving about, but the holy energy is definitely eating away at them.

Another of the skulls flings a fireball at the group. It likewise erupts across the flickering field Toc has raised.
The next one flings a fireball, this one streaking at Nuzej and erupting all around the wizard.
Nuzej: DC 15 Dex save for half: 30 fire damage.
Another of the skulls meanwhile send two blasts of fire lancing at the group. Both hit the field Toc has raised and evaporate before reaching the group. The skull clacks its mouth in an angry his. It zips out from within the light to get clear of it's burning holy energy.
Meanwhile....beneath the water....shadows flit through the water, two of them using their shadow blades to slash at Thyrius.

Simaal reacts by putting up his shield and crouching down as the first of the fireballs are launched. 17614 He then proceeds as he planned, can't be changing the plan, the gods are fickle. Failed once, made twice pre potential re-roll. "Skulls immune fire and cold, resist lightning necro, piercing." Simaal tells the group.
One of the skulls (S1), already blasted by Thyrius, now being baked by holy energy, succumbs to the damage and crumbles. The shards of the skull topple into the pile of bones beneath it.
Simaal hucks a javelin at one of the skulls but his aim is not great as the skull slides deftly to one side. However he seems to squint his eyes at the thing....as if looking into its fiery soul.

Thyrius had over-trusted the bone floor and misjudged Nuzej's floor placement. Now, he is paying the price for it. He manages to parry many of the incoming shadow attacks, but two of them bypass his quick reflexes. Thankfully, he still has some time to react to the second successful strike.
-> Reaction: Uncanny dodge to reduce that 17 damage to 8.
Thyrius spends some of his mental capacity describing to the group what is happening underwater. He then pleas: "Brother, have one of the wizards open a portal to another plane and go through it. The magical tether linking us should force me to go through the portal with you. If the portal remains open, we can then immediately jump back through. I don't know if this is possible, but it could work."

Xemnez eyes went wide seeing his brother sink so quickly out of sight. But before he could so much call out a thing, instinct spurred him away into doing everything as to at least minimalize the amount of surface area the fireballs could scorch on his being. Righting himself soon after with a snarl, he seemed to ignore Toc's warning in marching forth onto the path; the gems of his helmet glowing a faint blue as his eyes became subsumed in the same light.
'I will try to shatter th eone. But afterwards, I am off to my brother's side'He yet warned mentally to the others before racing across the by then 'visible' bridge (to him, at least) and leaping up along the way, only to bring his axe down hard upon the crystal skull in sharp bursts before even landing once more. Hit or miss, he then willfully steps off into the skeleton pit to sink down to his brother. From there, any shadow that winds up within the range of his axe is in for a sudden and rude awakening as he got to chopping away again!
Xemnez hears his brothers words in his mind...but he is born of action. And action is needed. The crystal skull in the center is the first one to have been shattered, its bits dropping about the floor, but as his vision sharpens Xemnez sees the invisible pathway suddenly as clear as day, and the path goes right near one of the skulls that flew from the bright light, so he rushes over and swings at that one instead. Three blows fly at it, but the creatures evil eyes flicker and a field of magic rises to defend it. His first blow sends chunks of bone flying, but the next two blows glance off of the magical field with no effect. Grunting in displeasure, he leaps from the magical walkway and hits the floor of bones, slipping through them as if they were barely there, soon to be encased in cool water and a cold darkness. There he sees his brother, surrounded by shadowy fiends....two of which are within Nezmos's reach. Xemnez unleashes fury on the shadows.
His first blow slips through the water missing the shadow, but the second two hone in on it, rending at the darkness and sending sprays of black into the water...but the shadow remains.
Two shadows come slipping out of the darkness behind Xemnez to join the fray. One of them was closest enough to start swinging its shadowy blades at the Leonin.
Attack on Xemnez: 11 Damage: 9 + 8 necrotic damage. (if hit, strength reduced by 4)
Attack on Xemnez: 15 Damage: 9 + 11 necrotic damage. (if hit, strength reduced by 1)
Meanwhile, in the battle above one of the skulls on the left of the room manages to find a pocket of darkness amidst the glaring light. From its position of safety, it launches two blasts of fire across the room at Nuzej.
Nuzej tries to explain over the link that there is an invisible floor over much of the east end of the chamber - straight out to the end and then back almost all the way, 40 feet wide. He asks if he should dimension door to the pool below or if Thyrius and Xemnez are okay for a tic.
He uses the staff again to fire off [spell[magic missile[/spell]s at S6, 5 darts.

He moves back to the group and within the protective sphere.

The skull opens it's mouth, expelling a hazy mist that solidifies into a shield that blocks all of the incoming darts. They thud against the field without harming the skull. Nuzej moves back within the field that Toc is maintaining.
Meanwhile, below the bones...Thyrius reaches out, grabbing for his brother. He can see 60 feet in the dark shadowy water....and so summons his shadowy energy and with a thunderous "boom" that tears through the water, he and Xemnez appear with an underwater "woooosh"....further from the swarm of shadowy creatures.
(Thyrius: roll damage when you have a chance, and let me know where on the map, roughly, you teleport and if you reply to any of the mental chatter)
The shadows take a moment to dart about, looking for the sudden disappearance of their foes, but then spot them. One of them flits down past a rock as he rushes towards the brothers...and they momentarily lose sight of it...enough to lose it entirely in the dark underwater shadows. Stealth: 21
Back above the water, Toc stands with the crystal pebble in his grasp, focused on the protective sphere and watches as Nuzej's magic darts splash against a shield. "Well...damn...that option is out. I'm afraid I don't have any spells that can hurt these things...just my sword...but if I move forward the sphere will break apart Nuzej's wall of force wherever it overlaps. Let me know if you have any ideas otherwise I'm a lame duck at the moment." He waits, considering his options.
The last remaining skull bathed in light flits forward until it's near the center of the room and free of the light. It sends two blasts of fire at the group, but they get absorbed by Toc's field. Another of the skulls glares and a sphere of fire seems to flicker and appear at the edge of the cave path where the group is, but it's nestled against Toc's sphere and vanishes a moment later.

Thyrius replies to Nuzej: "I am not sure, but we'll hold for now as best as we can."
The black cat then puts an arm on his brother's shoulder and nods at him, hinting at a well-practiced maneuver. The two Leonins disappear momentarily in a thunderous shock wave, only to reappear a second later some 90ft to the southeast of their previous spot. "Let them come to us if they dare, brother."
Thyrius then promptly finds some nearby underwater debris/shadow to hide in preparation for his next attack.
-> Action: [Tooltip Not Found] thunder damage or half as much on a successful CON save {DC 19}. I believe all six enemies are in range.
-> Movement: reappear 90ft away with Xem on the bottom right corner of the underwater map, and then move just enough about to hide.

Whether the wizard part of her companion could maneuver away or not, but Mirica tried to carefully (avoiding touching Nuzej) move the bright light over to the other side of the cave.

The thunder that Thyrius leaves behind shimmers through the shadow creatures, sending sprays of black all through the dark water. But the creatures seem unfortunately tougher to kill than that. The shadows all begin flitting towards the brothers, though they zip and dip behind barriers and into dark shadows and the brothers begin to lose site of them.

Above the skulls, Mirica makes a motion with her hand, and the brilliant light swings across the room, covering all of the skulls with dazzling light. Then she unleashes a blast of radiant flame at one of the skulls...scorching the thing and resulting in a screech of pain from the flying, flaming skull.
The skulls all scatter, trying to get away from the brilliant holy light, and flitting through the air away from the light. One of them blasts some more rays at the group, but it seems like Toc, they have precious little they can do against his protective magic sphere. Another of the skulls, deep against the wall, can do nothing but focus on moving all the way across the room and out of the light. Then one of the skulls cackle as it zips forward flying directly into the protective sphere and right up to the entire group. As it reaches them, it opens its mouth and an explosion of fire erupts around the group as it's fireball explodes.
Simaal, Mirica, Toc, and Nuzej: DC 15 Dex saves : 17 fire damage, save for half.

Simaal, Xemnez, you're both up!
(Xemnez, even though I've placed the shadows "on the map", unless your passive perception beats their stealth rolls, you can't see them.)
Simaal takes the fireball in the nose as usual causing his nose to glow a bit. 8. "Feel the thunder!" he tells the skull as he points his javelin and a small cone of focused sound waves slam into the skull.... potentially.... DC 19 all or none, damage 17. He seems disappointed that it's not dead.

The thunder that Thyrius leaves behind shimmers through the shadow creatures, sending sprays of black all through the dark water. But the creatures seem unfortunately tougher to kill than that. The shadows all begin flitting towards the brothers, though they zip and dip behind barriers and into dark shadows and the brothers begin to lose site of them.

Above the skulls, Mirica makes a motion with her hand, and the brilliant light swings across the room, covering all of the skulls with dazzling light. Then she unleashes a blast of radiant flame at one of the skulls...scorching the thing and resulting in a screech of pain from the flying, flaming skull.
The skulls all scatter, trying to get away from the brilliant holy light, and flitting through the air away from the light. One of them blasts some more rays at the group, but it seems like Toc, they have precious little they can do against his protective magic sphere. Another of the skulls, deep against the wall, can do nothing but focus on moving all the way across the room and out of the light. Then one of the skulls cackle as it zips forward flying directly into the protective sphere and right up to the entire group. As it reaches them, it opens its mouth and an explosion of fire erupts around the group as it's fireball explodes.

Simaal takes the fireball in the nose as usual causing his nose to glow a bit. 8. "Feel the thunder!" he tells the skull as he points his javelin and a small cone of focused sound waves slam into the skull.... potentially.... DC 19 all or none, damage 17. He seems disappointed that it's not dead.
