"Oh, you mean the antimagic field is not a sphere we can get around but covers the unknown size of the land... A pity. Can try to estimate the size of the field from the Etherial plan and get around? Or are you absolutely sure the phylactery is in the middle of this aberration of magic?"
Toc shakes his head, “I am unsure of anything. But this antimagic sphere seems more like a flat aura that has been created specifically on the maze. I won’t know for sure until I expend my magic to do more tunneling. Though, interestingly, I do feel the pull as...slightly down.....and when I go down into the tunnel, I'm...actually more in line with it than above..."
Simaal has a thoughtful look as Toc mentions the pull being closer down the tunnel. "Fascinating.... None of us have a beast of sorts to be summoned that can dig for us and so not have this limit then?"
Simaal heads down the newly constructed tunnel for about 15 feet then sort of pushes both of his hands towards the wall as a concentrated beam of acid hits the side of the wall. He'll do five blasts to see what he can create within that time frame. (average damage 23/round, he does it for 5 rounds).
Jezun whispers back, "let's tell the group, and we can always come back and drag one out. Sort of a nasty surprise if they don't know what we're bringing, right?"
Jezun gives a brief update on what they found. Though ready to tackle anything of a scouting nature, he holds up a finger. He blinks, and then opens his eyes. Clearer.
”This is a bad place. I can go scout underneath in the ethereal. But only once. We may learn more. Toc is it worth the resources? If so I will do it. The phylactery you said was that direction? Not below?” Nuzej says mentally.

Xemnez softly chuckles and shakes his head. 'Overall it sounds as if we have several solutions to consider. Once the others officially back and after a short rest, I say then would be a good time to exercise at least one of them in full. Until then-...' He stops there seeing Jezun and Thyrius return, and once others had brought them up to speed, raised a brow at the latest suggestion.
'That is... certainly an option. Though if you or some of us are, I would ask you exercise caution. For if my time in those ruins were of any indication of the sort of surprises that can lie in wait, I wouldn't put it past any mage of significant power to have some defenses in line for even that' Xem warns.
If able to get in a Short Rest at any point:
SR Healing(8): 39 (forgot the modifier for each die, so 64+35 for 99.)
Toc corrects Jezun, or...Nuzej....not entirely clear on which one of the co-habitating personalities he's speaking to, "Actually no, after I made that tunnel down, I realized that the pull is actually more a bit underneath the whole complex. But....I think you should wait. Let everyone have a bit of a rest first, and then, the same way you didn't let Thyrius go alone, you should also not go alone, someone should go with you into the Ethereal. Any volunteers?"
The group settles into the rough hewn passage way for a short rest. The air is still and everything is quiet. A bit unsettled knowing a horde of undead stand in wait just a few dozen paces away, the group manages to get a rest in regardless.
(SHORT REST)
Thyrius and Jezun take a quick moment to check on the undead after the wait, but find them unmoved, still standing in wait around the corners. With a plethora of options in front of the group for how to proceed, the ethereal scouting mission seems to be the first step.
Let me know if Jezun takes a friend or goes scouting alone.

"Maybe I should go. As long as we have magic, I have a way out, even if temporary." Mirica did not suffer any injury in the group's skirmish with the undead (thanks to the bravery of others and the new armour, that even without its magical properties proved to be great protection). She was ready to go.
Nuzej agrees to have Mirica along. (He has the higher slot available so they both can go, as can two others.)
He casts etherealness and tries to find his way in the rock, holding hands with companions, and staring in a spiral search pattern, taking Toc’a suggestions into account.
Before their departure(with whoever else as well), Xemnez communicates mentally with the others, 'Much as I would like to, on the off chance those undead decide to send out some sort of probing party, my abilities would be better suited fending them off over challenging whatever, if anything others might face on this... unique scouting effort. Just be careful and may your ancestors watch over you.'The Leonin then stood up and at attention near the hallway of doom; the tip of his greatsword against the ground and hands at rest on the pommel.
Thyrius similarly thought his abilities would be best used in subduing mummies should they venture forward. He sure could scout ahead well but, if others were going to do so while in ethereal form, then Thyrius' own expertise in the matter would surely prove to be only a small boon.
Once Xem proclaims his preference, Thirius decision is more than confirmed. He would stay with his brother. He asks Xem: "You have a grappling hook, don't you brother? Perhaps I can attach it to the end of this here chain in case we want to revisit Plan D again. If not, I can instead hang this chain right at the edge of what Simaal had determined to be the reach of the anti-magic field. Those mummies would surely shamble by it should they choose to advance and we can use the rattle as an alarm."
Xemnez took a moment to brush at the base of his mane in further thought, before ultimately nodding in agreement and fishing out the equipment. "By all means my brother. Have at it. Though may we need it not before our departure here."

Toc does not seem interested in an ethereal jaunt, and Simaal remains quiet, so Jezun focus' his energy and reaches at the seams of the universe, prying them apart, and letting both him and Mirica fade from view and vanish into the border ethereal.
Toc mutters a quick spell, his eyes shimmering for a moment. Mentally he says, "I can keep an eye on them from here, for a short ways."
Mirica and Jezun look around the hazy world of the ethereal. It is quiet and slightly cold. Around them, the real world appears only as a ghostly outline, and they can see the rest of the group as hazy and indistinct and lacking any color, almost as if they were shaped of mist. Jezun glances towards the solid stone, then nods and he and Mirica move below, to the level Toc indicated, and begin walking. As they step "into" the rock, nothing about their view changes except for seeing solid rock extending around them. They press onwards, starting a pattern to explore the entire area.
Toc adds, "They're further than 60 feet, I can't see them anymore."
As they begin to near what should be the center of the catacombs, still below by ten feet, the see that the solid rock gives way to an opening beneath. As they move forward though, there is something odd. Heavy, gray chains seem stuck to the walls of the large chamber, but, they extend out into the ethereal. Before they can get much further a creature can be seen. It is also hazy and somewhat indistinct....but....it's clear that the chain is connected to it's foot....and that the creature seems to be sitting in the ethereal. The thing is huge. It must be 35 feet tall, and looks very much undead, like a ghost. It has no eyes in its empty sockets, and no armor, only whispy rags that seem to float about it. It does however sport a large Maul. The giant turns and regards you....and then lets out a terrible shriek. The shriek manifests on the ethereal plane around you as a vortex and Jezun and Mirica find themselves forcefully pulled towards the giant....closing the distance from 60 feet, to only 40 feet.
As they are pulled forward, they see more of the room in the real world that seems to be about 70 feet across, and maybe 50 feet high, with a railing-less stairway curving down the inside of the wall from the ceiling. In the middle of the room is a pedestal upon which sits a small simple looking box. Attached to the three other cardinal directions of the walls of the round room are more chains, and as they're dragged forward by the vortex, three more of these massive chained ghosts appear within their vision, all watching them, seemingly in wait, but about to act.
Mirica, Jezun: DC 15 Constitution saving throw, taking 12 cold damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
Reminder: your mental connection to the group does not cross the planar boundary. AKA, you can't talk to them right now.
You are in a 3D environment, with 60 foot limit to your vision. It seems as if the Giant Ghost was waiting for you, and they all seemed to be aware of you, before you were of them, so you think they may be able to see further than you in the ethereal.
So, you can't quite make out the 2 other chains and giant ghosts actually, but you see the extra chains floating about, so you figure there are likely 4 of them.

the guardians were not completely unexpected but quite unpleasant nevertheless. "The box must be it, I take it? We can try to make it there under cover of the spells, pick the box up and ran away. Or maybe try to banish the monsters from this plane first. But I do not see a reforming skeleton near by... Hope it is not a mistake."
"I can dimension door us to the pedestal, we can grab the box, and go 500 feet back. Can even get us a protective bubble once we're there. Ready?"Nuzej says to Mirica.
