Thurius heeds his brother's warning, proceeding with caution. The idea of instead flying through the star map is kept in his mind for now. He continues to the balcony instead.
Thyrius takes flight, flying out the balcony doors and swooping upwards. Above, he sees large crystal windows, but they’re impossible to see through. Even the windows looking out of the star room seem to only be translucent from one direction. From the outside they’re smooth black surfaces. So though he can tell there is another floor, he doesn’t seem to see any way to access it.

Simaal looks over at the stony legs and has a quiet laugh thinking that it's as if the fates have aligned in some fashion. He thinks of telling everyone the story of the princess and the beggar with the missing legs, but looking at the current company decides against it. He walks over to the stoner, and sits down looking through his backpack for way too long. He then pulls out the contraption with legs, helps the stoner guy on it, and hands him some rope so he doesn't fall over. He then instructs him on how to use it, barring that will walk him around as required until he's either fixed completely, or he has time to identify to learn how to use it if I can't teach him.
Simaal pulls out these strange robotic legs that are the PERFECT solution to Nuzej's sudden rocky leg issue. But before he can so much as begin instructing Nuzej on how to use them, Toc goes and ruins it by casting a powerful spell to wash the effects of the petrification away. Simaal sighs heavily and puts the magical walking legs back into his bag. Next time....next time.
Thyrius heads up and out, and all around, banging, bonking and levering...but he finds that the exterior of the tower is magically hardened and impenetrable. He can't see within, but only knows that somewhere in there is another floor that they can't access. He returns to the main floor to the others with the information but no solution.
Nuzej renews the mental link between everyone, then Toc and Nuzej retreat to the spindle room and seem the be lost in an arcana nerd-out session over arcane theory and magic, while watching the strange artifact.
Everyone else stands about, unsure of how to proceed. Everlast stands silently to one side watching.
Danvoleye eventually opens his mouth, "It seems to have come to an impasse. Do you have more clever ideas, or do we return to the Mythallar? If you hope for an opportunity to try to dismiss me though, you can save your breath."

Simaal looks around "Clever ideas? Well, so far it's been more like stumbling around and triggering traps, but thanks for the confidence. Returning there isn't going to me of much use to my mind, so I'm still going to look around and see what I can figure out if anything." He grabs a bunch of books and sits by the weird globe of stars while going through the books slowly.
Danvoleye nods, and goes to the library, trying to likewise pull out a book or two that have survived enough to at least examine. Simaal assembles a small collection of fragments, hoping to pick some useful knowledge out of them.

"Oh, you were waiting for us to come up with a solution? Why not stop being a tag-along and do something productive? There is a room above us that could be our destination. You managed to come through the field of force raised by, no doubt, the owner of the tower. Why would not you try the same trick and help us all get through the window, that Thyrius had discovered?" Mirica never kept dragons in high regard but that particular one seemed to be beyond any hope. As for her, all that arcane jumble was too far from her area of expertise to even try. She would rather return to Ten Towns and then follow the next goal.
Danvoleye raises an eye at Mirica's response, and a smug crappy little smile appears on his lips, but he says nothing and continues to pick at scraps of the remnants of books.

Presumably if Xemnez had the angle to see events with Toc and Nuzej unfold at the time from his position on the balcony(having stayed to keep an eye on his brother's progress for the most part), the Leonin chuffed and shook his head, idly wondering why the wizard hadn't simply used his magic to free his fellow mage sooner instead of talking of carts. A thought then occurs to ask via the restablished link. Realizing perhaps however that Toc had returned to focus on studying the spindle, he instead directs a query to everyone else.
'Has he always possessed the means, or did his eagerness to view that spindle made him forget such magic to free Nuzej?'He asks through the link. Regardless of the answer, a slight but amused smile plays at the edge of Xemnez' face while staring off in the loose direction of the spindle room, before he then says aloud, "If any yet still have the means to communicate with those brains in jars and their projections below, it could be an avenue yet to try and discern more. But as-is, short of more extreme methods, we have to reevaluate a temporary retreat to explore other options. Any, at this point."He pauses there for a moment to brush at the base of his mane in idle thought as one might a beard. "Spirit of Everlast. You say you cannot divulge the secrets of this city, but what can you tell us in general terms at least. Would you be willing at least to act as a translator? Or be at liberaty to discuss certain matters at least with your future--"He looks pointedly at the dragon. "-assistant in restoring the city."

Xemnez watches Toc head into the spindle room as his thoughts move through his mind. He's about to ask his question, when Tic walks by. Right. There are two of them. Was it Tic talking about carts..or....Toc....then showed up to help... regardless he asks his question of the group.
Tic mentally reaches out to Xemnez when he raises his voice and mentions the brains in jars. "If you need assistance trying to communicate with the brains in the jars, I would be happy to help."
Then Xemnez thoughtfully brushes his mane and turns to Everlast. Everlast swings its regard towards Xemnez as it hears himself being addressed. Everlasts eyes slide to Danvoleye then back to Xemnez. Then Everlast seems to "think", but it involves some short jerks of his neck in one direction...several times...and then his entire image flickers in and out of existence a bit. Then he shimmers back, fully present and looking at the air, where the group first entered the room from.
"You are nearly at your desired destination." He smiles, to the empty space, and looks relaxed. "Hopefully you have a specialist wizard of the required type, otherwise I fear your path is at an end."
Then his image flickers again, his body moving about with jerks before finally settling down. He eyes Xemnez and says, "I have done all I can."

Simaal mentions while his head is still in the books. "Well it could be a matter for our resident wizard to sit down in one of these chairs that relate to his favorite path and uhm.... stuff might happen, I can't tell."
"Are you broken?" Mirica observed the scene from some distance. "You look broken and repeat the same sentences. We already used that part about "specialist wizard" to walk through the correct door." She looked around. Eight chairs. And before it was eight doors with only one door working. "Do the chairs belong to the schools of magic as well?"She hesitantly looked at Nuzej. "Nuzej, I'm afraid you still remain our only "specialist wizard" to check things out. If that thing is not broken, it seems you have to interact with something bound to your school to get us to the "desired destination". If you think you can risk it, of course".
Nuzej shakes his head to clear the fog of confused embarrassment that has clung to his poor wizardly brain for some time. “Yes. That is the best path. I am an evocation wizard, and thus we can attempt the evocation room. I could also dimension door into the room above, if that doesn’t work.”
Simaal looks up as Nuzej talks. "I think these chairs are also tuned to mages, and I believe that chair may be evocation, but feel free to check. It's possible the chair controls further doors."
Nuzej looks....a little befuddled. It must be all the bits of books and scrolls, or the star field, or the layout of this place. Either way, Simaal and Mirica gently guide him over to one of the 8 chairs that have the arcane symbol associated to Evocation. He takes a seat. As he does so, the star field fades away, and a magical rectangular door appears, shimmering with magical energy. Through the portal, you can see a large chamber that has lain undisturbed for centuries. On the upper level, all around the portal, are tables covered with wizardly paraphernalia. Staircases on the left and right descend to the lower part of the room, where a sunken library is situated in a twenty-foot-wide, ten-foot-deep circular pit. A ladder running along a circular track inside this hole allows easy access to the many books and scrolls on its shelves.

"What? No comments? No "congratulations, you reached your destination" remarks?" Everlast might not have a crapy smile (unlike the dragon) but was quite irritating anyway. "Well, what do we do here? Leave Nuzej to sit and guard the door while someone tries to step through? Or is the wizard supposed to be the one getting in?"
