"I see us running away from this place as well but I guess we don't have a choice for the time being," Vera added resignedly. "Shall we go and see what kind of demonic horror it is this time...?" she asked the group ready to head over.
"Yes, this does feel like it could be another infestation, but we may need to take the chance. If their trouble can be solved, they they may be the first ones who can help us."
Knox follows along with everyone else as the group heads to the city gates to introduce themselves.
The same gnome raises his eyebrows at the approaching party, then brightens as he sees Jimjar.
"Ah, welcome! Come in, come in. Should have no worries finding a place for you—I’ll just have to run it by my superiors first, you understand. Your companion mentioned something about mushrooms and demons, what in Entemoch’s name did you run in to?"

"My names Knox. Me any my companions have been travelling from place to place attempting to find refuge and assistance, of a sort. We have managed to reach two settlements before this one and in both cases we found the settlements to be home to a greater demon of the abyss. What information we have, suggests an incursion from the lower planes, that if not stopped, could lead to the end of our world as we know it. We were reluctant to enter your city at first because we feared the situation here, could be the same as we have found before. We are hopeful your troubles are of the more mundane variety and not caused by the presence of yet another greater demon."
"If we could speak to your leaders, we would like to share the details. The more cities that know, hopefully the more that can be done to fight back and stop this danger."

"Knox speaks truly, good gnome. Would that we could have defeated the demons infesting the fungi, but there were too many, and we chose to instead help the mushroom people evacuate before they were transformed into demonic thralls. I hope that your situation is not quite so dire, and we can be of some service to you here," says Miles, confirming Knox's assessment of the situation.

Her comrades having stated their position perfectly, Vera simply nodded in the affirmative and waited for the guard to take them to their leader to discuss further.
The gnome leads you through winding, close cropped streets carved out of stone. The deep gnomes tend to give you a fairly wide berth, but also don’t show you any hostility. You can see a few places where the city looks like it’s been destroyed, but the process of rebuilding has already begun. Finally, you’re taken to a larger cavern.
Two dozen or so svirfneblin occupy this well-lit cavern, some moving briskly with messenger pouches in hand while others huddle around several stone tables covered in maps and other papers, talking in hushed, serious tones. The back of the room is dominated by a dais carved from the rock of the cavern, atop which rest two stone desks facing each other. Two svirfneblin — one male, one female — sit behind the desks, conferring with advisers and each other. They turn their attention to you as you enter.

The disguised Wendigo opens his mouth to speak, revealing that even in this form his teeth are as crooked as ever, but closes it shortly after and looks to those whose language skills are far less rusty. Which is more or less the entire rest of the party. He instead stands near the back, idly fiddling with this form's scruffy white mane of a beard.

"Hello." Vera began tentatively as she stepped to the forefront of the party. "We heard from the Svirfneblin at the gates that you've been having issues recently within the city and fear it might be similar to experiences we've had in the Underdark so far. We've come face to face with Two Greater Demons in Two different cities and fear that another one might've emerged here as well. Can you share with us what you've been experiencing so far?"
The male gnome grunts and mutters something under his breath.
"Aye. We're stuck 'tween a rock and a hard place, and while I normally like rocks I'm not a huge fan of this one. We've got unusual numbers of oozes roaming the city, and those damn wererats are still clogging up the warrens."
His companion seems rather disapproving of the last utterance, and steps in.
"Please excuse my husband—he's been rather on edge lately. I'm Senni Diggermattock, and this is my husband Dorbo. We speak for the deep gnomes here. Tell us, have you seen an unusual profusion of oozes elsewhere? Or heard anything of the sort?"

"Variations on a theme. The recipe is the same, but the ingredients vary. With the mushroom people it was a fungal demon. Here it seems to be an ooze demon. Before I joined the group it was another demon, right Knox?" says Miles, making his usual cooking metaphor.

Jhazaal stays in the back, trying to be mostly behind one of the group as they move into the settlement.

The gnome blinks faintly, then swallows nervously.
"Oh. Er. We should probably take you to the Chief then. Right this way."

Wendigo shudders involuntarily at the mention of Demogorgon.
“Horrible thing. Almost drove me mad. Made me forget... or maybe remember? It is... over now. Thank gods.”
"Ignorance is bliss, and you look absolutely miserable."
"Demons everywhere." Jhazaal speaks up, poking out his head from behind his companions. "Me no know why demons all over place... You know?"
Dorbo grunts.
"No. I don't know why. Could very well explain the oozes, though . . ."
He frowns.
"But why come to us? What help are you expecting? I'm afraid we don't have much of anything to spare, especially to strangers."
