Vera will grab one of the nets that the group had taken from the Drow barracks, and assuming she's able to get close enough to use it, will attempt to trap him or at least trip him up.
Attack roll if necessary: 1 (That failed horribly lol)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"What is wrong with Wendigo? At first I thought he was just running from the giant creature, but it almost seems he is also trying to get away from us."
As Vera tries to catch Wendigo with one of the nets but misses, Knox steps forward to try and lend a hand.
"Here let me try."
Grabbing the net up, Knox runs forward and throws it, trying to catch Wendigo.
Action: Throw the net at Wendigo: 8(no proficiency bonus, disadvantage because I'm assuming Knox can only get close enough for the 15ft range)
(Does this fear affect have a duration or is it permanent? If it is only a minute, or even up to ten minutes, just keeping moving away from the lake, even if he is running from us as much as the demon, would be as good as about anything else we can do. If it is permanent, then I doubt if 2nd-level characters have anything in their arsenal that can cure him.)

Jhazaal considers asking the fleeing Wendigo what is wrong, but decides the less-than-talkative Wendigo probably isn't going to feel like being chatty as he flees. With a sigh he calls out anyway. "Hey Wendigo, what's up pal? The demon is quite a ways back there now..." Jhazaal continues moving away. "If we can heard Wendigo away from the lake, we are at least going in the right direction." He calls to the others.

I'd like to try an Insight or Arcana check to see if Vera can figure out what's happening to Wendigo either through his actions (Insight) or possibly information she might've learned beforehand?

"Let's keep chasing him away from the village and see what happens! I think he might calm down if we push him far enough away from that monster!" She yells back to Brio

(OOC: hmm... What does the group think of stopping our pursuit of Wendigo temporarily and seeing what happens? I think we're far enough away from the monster that we should be relatively safe for a bit if we stop moving (Correct me if I'm wrong DM regarding our location))

(Then I think our group has stopped moving for the time being)
"Everyone let's stop!" Vera tells the remaining group. Arms on her knees and out of breath from their mad dash from the lake monster, she can only look up at Wendigo up ahead and hope that he either stops moving or they're able to find him at a later point.
"We can't keep chasing him." Jhazaal says as he wipes sweat from his bald head. He glances back over one shoulder and sighs. Finding a stone to sit on he nearly falls down from the hard run. Then he looks after the fleeing Wendigo. "Hopefully his demons will settle and allow him to find his way back to us..."
As the group stops, but Wendigo keeps going, Knox looks back and forth between the fleeing figure and the rest of the group.
At Jhazaal's words, Knox asks,
"What if he gets lost, should we not continue a little longer to try and reclaim our companion?"
Knox looks back the way the group has come.
"I am not sure we are yet far enough to consider stopping for very long anyway. If Demogorgon chooses to pursue us, I don't believe it would take the creature long to catch up to us."
Knox turns looking the direction Wendigo has continued off in.
"Perhaps we can continue to follow at a more reasonable pass, hopefully Wendigo will come to his senses and we can regroup?"

(You don't know what's causing his fear, and really have no way to find out. I mean, you could try asking him.)

Wendigo dodges both nets, which only serve to increase his panic. He does not respond to Jhazaal.

Vera thinks it might be something to do with Demogorgon's appearance, as he only seemed to react this way after the Prince of Demons arrived.

You travel a fair distance away from the demon, but Wendigo still seems to be running from you.

If we are a safe enough distance, safety in the underdark a fairly loose term, then Jhazaal would agree that stopping is a good plan.
(You're a ways away from Demogorgon, yes.)
