(DM Question - Do we know how far until we reach our destination?)
Orimdal looks at each of the party trying to look into the water, his brow furrowing. He looks up to the sky, trying to determine how much daylight they have left, then refocuses on maintaining course.
(A sailing ship moves 120 miles a day, so you'll reach the town just into nightfall. The sun is almost directly overhead, so you've got a few hours yet.)

The creatures move closer to the surface, eventually breaking the surface. You see dolphins, but the have strange, stringy tendrils waving along behind them. At the end of each tendril is a bulbous light, the lights you saw below the surface. They jump up alongside the boat, chittering and chirping in a playful way. They do not appear hostile

"Oh!" Tender exclaims, wide-eyed. "I've never seen such creatures before." She eases up from leaning over until she's comfortable again, but she doesn't look away from the glowing dolphins.
"For once, something that doesn't want to kill us," Kallista says with a chuckle once the creatures surface. She relaxes slightly, enjoying the view but still keeping an eye out.

Nature or History check to see if Evi recognizes the creatures once they surface: 19
They are pretty cute, she had to admit to herself as she continued to look over the rail at the sea creatures though she'd never say that out loud to the others. She tried to remember if she knew any stories about them from her time back home (Nature or History check to see if Evi recognizes the creatures once they surface: 14)
You do remember hearing stories about creatures from deep down that posses such things as natural lights. Rarely are they seen, so this is a special occasion.

Fletcher smiles "Whatever they are, unless they have come to kill us....I am gonna take them as a lucky sign. Maybe some day, they will come back to haunt us, but until then" He looks at the unruly crew of the broken boat, raising an imaginary wine glass "May we all find what it is we are looking for."

“I will take responsibility for what I have done. [...] If must fall, I will rise each time a better man.” ― Brandon Sanderson, Oathbringer.
Tender grins at Fletcher's words and Kallista's comment before turning back to watch the dolphins for another moment. Then, she takes a breath and moves away from the side of the ship to sink back to the deck, flopping backwards to lay staring up at the sky. "We could definitely do with some good luck," she muses, settling her hands over her middle comfortably. "Hopefully those wizards are still around and they can help us." Though she wasn't betting on it, privately; why would Knurath leave a threat like that alive? She sighs, squinting up at the sky, wishing for a moment for her old teachers and their wisdom.
The clouds part in the sky, and a sudden flash of light resembling a flaming bird passes through. Seems your hopes for your teachers being with you are not necessary, as they are with you now.
Night falls, and you all gather for dinner. Jullar has retrieved some food from below deck, and comments that he found the captains body. It seems he's been dead for no more than a day, and Jullar thinks that this whole boat ride was an improvisation in Knurath's plans. The trip so far, since the Serpent, has been hickupless.

"We should find some way to bury him once we reach land," Kallista suggests. This man did nothing to deserve his untimely end, and the very least they could do was lay him to rest. "Orimdal, does it look like we're getting close?" She calls up to where the dwarf is manning the helm.
Bolstered by that light and the feeling that her teachers are still with her, Tender seems more settled at dinner than she had been. "Do sailors prefer sea burials," she asks, brows scrunching as she looks over to Jullar. "I think I read that somewhere." Though it could have easily been some fairy tale as truth; she certainly wasn't familiar enough with sea-faring to know either way.

Orimdal nods at Tender, "I've no had a lot o' sailors in my smith, but they prefer water burials. As fer how far, I'm no sure. Nightfall makes it a bit harder ta make out the distance." He peers out still, trying to make out any land in the distance (Perception (at disadvantage for night time at a distance even with dark vision): 3).
You cannot see any land. The town should be alight though, so it shouldn't be hard to miss if you stay on course.
"Yes, in my travels I've seen my fair share of at-sea burials. Most unfortunate, but it beats having to head to land to dump the bodies. If you're all up for it, could you help me prepare him?" Jullar asks.

"I'll help too," Kallista offers. Turning to Fletcher, she mutters, "Fair warning, if he's been dead for a day, he's probably not going to smell great." She yanks her mask over her nose and mouth in a preemptive attempt to ward off the odor.
(OOC - are you just throwing him overboard or putting him on a floating pyre? If you're burning him, Orimdal will use create bonfire to set him alight before you push him off to float on the waters.)

"That's... cryptic." Nevertheless, Kallista raises her own imaginary glass and mimes clinking it against Fletcher's.
