You look around. This room seems to be relatively secure and there is only 1 entrance. You could manage a rest here with some minor issues.
The sounds of the cattle outside echoes down the hall. They seem content, for now.
Jimmy: "If'n ya'll want to rest I can take some time and make sure things are taken care of as far as the cattle an all. Plus," Jimmy says with a sly smile "I can take a little bit of time with the boots, boot knife, and that sock and puzzle out what they are for ya if ya like."
(It seems to be the consensus to rest...if anyone wishes to do something else, by all means, do so.)
The party settles in for some rest time. Jimmy seems to walks around a bit, getting the fire set and moving things around to clear a spot for the party to rest. He puts on his gloves and takes the 3 items in question and sets them off to one side. He produces a small bit of chalk and draws a small arcane symbol on the floor and then places the items inside the circle. His attention is drawn to the items and what he is doing for a few minutes.
Before casting his spell, Jimmy moved the curtain aside to "Best keep an eye out" he says. The illuminating moss down the hallway gives off a soft green glow to the area.
The rest is uneventful and everyone heals up (roll your hit die). Also, Everyone gains 1 level so sort out what you want to do with that :)
The one thing that does come back from time to time is the vision all of you shared.
Keth does his best to shake off the disturbing visions as he moves about the small room and helps with the fire. He produces some smaller pots and other cooking items and attempts to make at least something hardier than just plain rations. He seems quite content, joking about the slips and faces of the group when fighting the odd ooze thing. He says a few unkind jokes about the confederates from his time in the war and is generally pleasant.
As the meal is over he takes a place in the doorway watching the tunnels, "I will happily take first watch if you would all like."
Rictor sighs and very nearly collapses to the floor as Jimmy gets to work, youth and restfulness keeping him going even as the last dregs of the adrenaline that had been pumping through his veins since they entered the cave ebbed away. But before he can find respite from their trials and tribulations he had work to do.
Opening the black grimoire he always carried on his person to a page with esoteric symbols painted in red and lays his "revolver" next to it on the ground. His eyes close and he sits in what seems like meditation, though his eyelids twitch and his mouth moves as if he's murmuring to himself yet he doesn't make a sound.
It's been 8 hours. All of you seemed to have slept for most of it with little to no watch shift. You awaken to the smell of fresh-brewed coffee. Jimmy is tending the pot. As you start to stir Jimmy says: "Ya'll must have been through a lot to get ya'll be tuckered out like that." he says.
As Jimmy passes out a full cup to each of you he says: "I sorted out them items ya'll be frettin' over. Each of them is magical in their own right though the sock threw me for a loop for a bit." Jimmy drinks the coffee. "So," he asks. "what comes next?"
Rictor's meditation gave way to fitful sleep, though all throughout the night he carries on his mumbled conversation with no one. When he wakes he sits upright with a gasp, taking a cup of coffee with a grateful nod to Jimmy.
"We can't leave yet," he says firmly after a long gulp of hot coffee that probably should have burned him. "I heard a voice, a little girl's voice, right before we met that insane old man who walked through that portal. She's in danger."
"Before we move on anywhere, Jimmy, what did you find out about those items? And Rictor, could the voice have come from the portal," Keth asks the group.
Rictor takes off his hat and scratches at his inky black hair uncertainly. "Well... I can't say for certain, but I heard the voice before we ever saw any portal. Besides, my patron-"
He catches himself before he says anything further, stuffing his hat back on his head with an annoyed huff. "Just trust me on this one. Now then, Jimmy. Tell us all about the magical sock."
Jimmy responds to Keth's question: "Well, the boot knife is your standard knife, forged with a bit of magic to make it sharper." he says. "The boots, well they were made by elves I think cause they got elf magic all over them. From what I gather they make you real quiet." Jimmy pauses a moment:
"The Sock," he says smiling "Ya'll got to see it to believe it but, someone has to put it on your hand." Jimmy laughs.
Val puts his hand into the sock. At first, he feels nothing then, abruptly the sock begins to shimmer and contort. Val feels no pain and still has full command of is hand but, the sock seems to be taking on a shape. The sock briefly takes the shape of something with feathery wings but then settles on a for of a creature from the fey, complete with small wings and green outfit. The head of the sock creature turns, its visage is that of an elf, and it speaks. "Hi, there buddy! What do I call you?'it says in a high pitched voice.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Rictor was halfway through shoving his feet into the magical boots when he hears a startlingly high-pitched voice and he lets out a strangled yelp of surprise. "What in the devi- I mean, what in tarnation is that thing?!"
"You must be the smart one," it says. "I was made by a toymaker in the old country, a gift to entertain his boy, Hans" it continues. "Hans came to America to find his fortune and I came with him but, Hans lost me in a card game so, I been shuffled around for a couple of years, I think. But it's fine now, YOU FOUND ME!"

“That seems best. I’m feeling a bit drained.” Val settles in

Waiting on the others to respond before continuing.
“Lead on Rictor, show me where.” Val stirs a bit groggily.

Val raises an eyebrow before taking the sock and putting it on his hand.

Keth nods appraisingly at Jimmy, "Well done there. Would anyone mind if I make use of the knife?" He looks hesitantly as Val dons the sock.
Occ: Slept way too long. Back to it though.
