While Jeb jumps into the pool to save Sildar from drowning, Arikon blasts Lieutenant 1, who collapses onto the ground. Sharloon steps in front of two of the goblins and opens his maw, unleashing a devastating line of electricity! The Lieutenant partially dodges it, but doesn’t dodge Murmen’s holy fire, which finishes him off. All that remains are two scared looking goblin archers. They fire wildly at Arikon and Sharloom before running. Arikon is struck for 6 damage
Yeemik watches in disbelief as his goblin force crumbles in front of him, his loyal henchmen dead on the ground. The remaining goblins are unarmed and includes smaller children. He can’t hope to push back the tide of battle, so he begins ordering the rest of his tribe to retreat out of the cave.
Unbeknownst to him, Zee has dashed down the greasy shaft into the wolf den. Yeemik’s escape may not be so easy...
After making his way down the grease hole, Zee heads to the entrance of the make shift dog kennel and prepares his casting of Toll the dead for when Yeemik runs past. (DC13 WIS save)

With the goblins on the run, Jeb assists Sildar from the pool and on to dry land. Once there he quickly casts Prestidigitation to dry both of their clothes.
Once Sildar is situated, Jeb moves to follow the fleeing goblins down the tunnel at a cautious distance.

The arrow struck him near his right shoulder, missing his throat by just a few inches. It hurt, it hurt badly. The pain almost overwhelmed him and Arikon had to call on all his strength to stay on his feet. The young man cursed as he grabbed the shaft and yanked it from his flesh. The arrow left a bleeding wound that would require some attention as soon as they were safe. Enraged he hurled another Eldritch Blast after the retreating goblins. Attack: 18 Damage: 5
After that Arikon approached Sildar and began to free him from his bindings. "Are you alright? I hope these creatures didn't hurt you too badly.", he said.

Arikon throws a wild bolt that misses the goblins. He and Jeb help Sildar out of the water while Sharloon takes up guard at the junction. Then, Jeb cautiously follows the fleeing goblins while Arikon frees Sildar from his bindings.Unfortunately, the fleeing goblins move too fast for Jeb, and he soon loses sight of them.
Zee lies in wait as the goblins thunder out of the cave. The moment he sees Yeemik, he unleashes a surprise spell to finish him off. The bells toll, but Yeemik doesn't seem to be affected. He and the rest of the goblins run out of the cave into the clearing outside, making for the forest. They'll be there in one more turn.
With the goblins gone, Sharloon doesn't see anything dangerous lurking in the cave. For once, it becomes silent and peaceful. Sildar chokes out water as Arikon releases him. The old warrior is in bad shape- it's a miracle he survived at all. He mutters in a subconscious stupor, "You came back for me. Even Redcorn chose to stand his ground and fight to save me. Thank you."
The cave is clear of any threats, and may now be fully explored.
Sharloon will give the wounded a perfunctory glance but seeing that Jeb seems to be on it he will examine the area a little more closely. He looks over the blocks and flooding mechanism to see if the dam is poor construction or intentionally able to be set loose. In addition, he will recover any fallen weapons and or supplies in a pile in the upper room.
Make a through examination of the area (upper room we started in as well as the room where the secondary combat occurred. Looking out primarily for hidden stragglers or anything of value as well as giving the damn area a good check as well. Trying to determine if we did trigger it how much damage would it cause, etc? Flood the lower chamber, the whole cave, surrounding areas, or what? On the previous examine it had weaknesses (as discussed), do those seem to be from crappy goblin engineering or intentional?
Perception 19 and/or Investigation 2 as DM requires for a good through look see of the caves.
Yeemik and the goblins run into the forest and out of sight, escaping Zee's ambush. He's gone now, but perhaps you'll see him another day. Jeb checks the injured, including himself, but their wounds aren't too bad. After all, Jeb himself was sent to the brink in the previous goblin ambush. The only concern is John, who stares at his partially healed arrow wound. The bartender has calmed down from the adrenaline of the fight, but being the sole person knocked unconscious, he seems to be coming to grips with his mortality.
Sharloon takes a closer look at the surrounding area. Other than the tied-up goblins, the area contains no hidden stragglers. As he examines the dam, he comes to the same conclusion tas Arikon: it's a trap the goblins use to flood away intruders coming through the main entrance. If released into this room, it would likely drown both the upper and lower chambers.
Sildar struggles to stand up, using a goblin bow as a makeshift crutch. He grimaces as he looks at the corpses of goblins on the ground.
"You fought well. Gundren made a good decision to hire you." Looking at Sharloon, he says, "I don't believe we've formally met yet. I'm Sildar Hallwinter." He smiles and holds his hand out to shake.
"I'm sorry that you were caught up in this whole mess. The goblins wanted Gundren, not you, but they attacked you anyways. I can't bear to think what they're doing to him now." Sildar sighs.
"I owe you all an explanation, don't I? Please hand me my gear first, and I'll try to explain why all of this happened."

John brightens up momentarily at Zee's encouragement but then frowns once more. "So...you don't think I'm a coward? I feel like one now, when I couldn't even step forward to check on Sildar." John glances at his arrow wound again. "But that fight, it was exhilarating. I didn't hit anything with the crossbow, but I felt so afraid and so alive at the same time. And when I was knocked down, the dwarf brought me back to the land of the living." John suddenly gets up and gives Zee a hug.

"Yeemik got away unfortunately." Zee says with a sigh, then looks to the two captured goblins. Now was the time to see what the others and John where really made of and who they were. "What do you guys think? Sildar, John, Sharloon, Arikon? What should we do with these two." He says motioning to the goblins. So far there was one who wouldn't mind putting them down, and one who would see them freed.

When Sildar is handed back his gear, he immediately checks his breastplate for the letter and sighs in relief when he finds it, not knowing that Zee had put it back. He grimaces as he tends to his own wounds before gingerly suiting up in his chain mail. Finally, he leans against the stone wall for support and begins speaking.
"The reason the elves built the Road of Ancients thousands of years ago is clouded by myth and legend, but some say that in the Ipshur Mountains, there once stood a powerful Dwarven kingdom. The kingdom was known for its impressive forges, which produced powerful magical artifacts that they traded with the elves through the Road. But alas, some sort of great calamity shook the proud kingdom, which fell to ruin and disrepair. This was thousands of years before the first humans stepped foot in Athetome."'
Sildar's claim resonates with Murmen's memory, as the dwarf smiths of the Northern Mountains have similar tales. However, such tales are not the sort shared across tankards of ale, but more whispered in dark clan halls. There's a certain shame surrounding the stories, for some indiscernible reason.
"The kingdom controlled a rich mine named Wave Echo Cave, which not only contained rare minerals but also great magical power. The elves sent mages to channel that energy into a great forge, the Forge of Spells. The nearby village of Phandalin was built to accommodate them, and together the dwarves and elves prospered. However, when the kingdom fell, the location of the cave was lost to time. Until recently."
Sildar sighs. He examines his longsword's blade before continuing.
"Gundren's grandfather, on his deathbed, revealed to him a map containing the secret entrance to Wave Echo Cave. Gundren's two brothers went forth to confirm the map, while Gundren prepared for a mining expedition in Doveheart. But, it seems he wasn't the only one who desired the riches of the cave. Somebody named the Black Spider paid the goblins of the Cragmaw tribe to intercept Gundren and steal his map. He was taken to King Grol, at Cragmaw Castle."
Sildar sheathes his longsword and continues speaking.
“As for me...in some circles, I am called Sir Sildar Hallwinter. I’m an agent of the crown, and my mission in Phandalin is two-fold. It’s primary human population and location on the frontier has made it vulnerable to unrest and insurrection. My first task is to bring order and justice to the town.”
As he says those words, only Jeb notices something peculiar(Passive Insight). Sir Hallwinter doesn’t seem to be very enthusiastic about his job. When he mentioned the word crown, he says it with a slight tone of disgust.
“When I met Gundren in Doveheart, I realized his ambitions could bring prosperity to Phandalin. That’s why I offered my help to him. But we needed more support, so we hired you as well.”
He looks at Sharloon.
“Dragonborn, I did not hire you. Nonetheless, you supported these men in rescuing me. For that, I am eternally grateful. Would you like join in on their contract?”
Silae unravels a familiar paper which contains the signatures of the rest of the party, excluding John Redcorn. He offers Sharloon a quill and ink well.
“My second task is to locate another missing agent. His name is Iarno Albrek, a human mage trained at the Academy for joining the service. He was sent to Phandalin before me, yet we quickly lost contact with him.”
Sildar frowns as he tries to stand up. He nearly trips before he finding his footing, groaning in pain.
“I am not well. Though you have saved me here, I am too weak to travel alone to Phandalin, so I must ask you for another favor. Please, could you escort me to the town? I will compensate you well- for 50 gold.”
Sildar begins to slowly shuffle his way out of the cave. He stops for a moment as he sees the tied-up goblins on the floor.
“Do what you want with them. All I have to say is this: if your positions were reversed, they would not give you a scrap of mercy. Why should you?”
Scrambling forward Sharloon growled harshly at the goblins, "Greetings, betrayers. I am Sharloon."
