Ayo sniffs the air, then looks at the masked man:" You are coming from Chult, then. What can you tell me about Chult and Ubtao? What have you learned? "
"A death curse has grip the material plane, I am not the religious type maybe my companions can answer you about Ubtao. We are heading to the source of the curse after finishing our business in Hrakhamar."
"Not really a place to relax and grab a drink with the locals if you know what I mean. Undead roam the jungles. Flora and fauna both trying to eat you at every turn. I suppose that's not too unusual for Chult though. As my friend Felix here described, there's a terrible death curse upon the land. Our plan is to help our companion Musharib over there reclaim his homeland in Hrakhamar and then destroy some soulmonger to lift the curse. We'd appreciate a lift or, um transport so we may possibly survive many more attempts on our lives against overwhelming odds. If we live through it all, we'd love to come back and visit and get our uni-bunny guide drunk and revel you with our amazing tales of heroics!"
Not one for courtly niceties and negotiation, Irommek is pretty pleased with his conversation with Ayo. He's sure the ale has made his wise and glib.
Brunella nods. She is normally not one to speak volumes. Since her companions have said everything that needs to be said (in her view), she addresses the large ape with her typical directness and lack of formality, getting straight to the point.
"Most of us are not natives to the land of Chult. As others had said we are traveling the dense jungles seeking the soulmonger to defeat the death curse. As for Ubtao, I personally know little. I believe Inete told me legends that he was worshiped by the Chultans, was father of the dinosaurs on the island, and has disappeared long long ago. We also traveled with a mna who if I recall had some dealings with Ubtao, his name was Artus. I may be mistaking if he was involved with Ubtao."

This place is beautiful. It calls to me.
"I hear your call. If you believe in this place, part of it will stay with you once you leave."

"The thing you call death curse is feeding something. An abomination, a memory of a forgotten past, it will be a curse for the planes as we know them. It must be destroyed."
Raising an eyebrow, Ayo had Irommek's full attention now. Instinctively he settled into battle planning mode. He took a distracted sip of ale and offered some to the ape, not knowing if god-like gorillas enjoyed a good ale or not.
"Feeding an abomination you say? Can you tell us more about this memory of a forgotten past? Was it defeated before and how? Do you know enough to know if it has any weaknesses or affinities? I'm not sure if the dinosaurs and plants are its allies but the undead stinks, literally and figuratively, of serving a greater evil. I wonder if it has more allies that we'll face soon?..."

Ayo immerges her little finger into Irommek's mug and tastes that strange liquid. Not bad, but Ayo prefers wine.
"This being is not allied with dinosaurs and plants. Those are part of the natural circle of life and death in Chult. No. This being has been placed in Chult recently, by someone which is not known to me. An undead, an echo of ancient, forgotten being. Souls are feeding it."
"Why does it matter if Ubtao left? It's the problem of Chult if their gods left them. We were tasked with stopping the curse that's all. The Guardian Saja N'baza believes it to be someone named Ras Nsi. So are you going to help us?"
OOC To be fair, Saja N'baza didn't know who was causing the death curse. She knew only the location, Omu, and the fact that souls were getting consumed.
Ras Nsi is connected to Artus Cimber. Saja said that for Mezro to return, Ras Nsi must die. As far as you know, Ras Nsi and the death curse might be linked or might be two completely separated things.

"Why do you think Ubtao disappeared? What was the reason of his choice?"
Kurma, stayed quiet from his first step in this plane, taking notes on every living thing in his notebook. He slowly approach the giant ape, "Keeper of the eternal cycle of predators and preys, my name is Kurma - follower of Oghma. I am not sure, but do you imply Ubtao disappearance is linked to this Soulmonger ? Could we call Ubtao back to the realms? Would he be able to restore the balance in Chult?"
OOC: not sure if I previously asked, but what Kurma would know about Ubtao ? Religion Check (with Guidance):12 + 3
The god Ubtao was the protector of Chult and its people. Although the dinosaurs are still revered as Ubtao's children, the presence of the god has not been felt for more than a century, for a reason unknown.
Ayo to Kurma:" I am not implying such a thing. Ubtao left well before the advent of the souls' vanishing. "
Then, in response to Felix's question: " Everything matters. "
Ayo's cryptic nature begins to irritate Felix. Felix stops himself from saying something dumb and just sits down in frustration. He looks to the others "Well I'm done, I'll let you guys ask the questions."
"I am no man or faith or follower, merely a man looking to get by in my world. I do not I could begin to fathom the intentions or actions of the gods. Ubtao may have reasons for disappearing or perhaps another god had some cause. I am sure a god of Chult would be disturbed by what is currently happening to its land. Any support or insight you may believe could help us would be greatly appreciated."

"Why do you think Ubtao disappeared? What was the reason of his choice?"
"hummm that would be presumptuous to say that I can explain the action of a god. I could only speculate. Ubtao is the maker of Chult, the creator of dinosaurs and probably us Tortles. He might have decided that after creating us, he would leave us alone so we would suffer the consequences of our actions. Free-will if you want. Maybe he is still watching over us but without telling us. I know also that if a deity does not have enough follower, he or she would slowly disappear. Ubtao might have been replaced by other gods ?
But please do not leave me in the dark, I feel you know more than us on this subject."
Ayo:"That answer is close enough. Ubtao protected Chultans for centuries, but then greed started to creep inside Chultans' hearts. They didn't believe anymore. That is why Ubtao left as a turtle mother leaves the eggs on their own on a beach. The children must find their way. Now, take each other hands and make a circle..."
OOC Assuming you all oblige...
Ayo:"Believe. It is the only way you will defeat the soulmonger and the abomination. Believe."
The dream-like planar travel happens again, in a blink of an eye. This time, the party does not find itself in a beast-heaven, but in an arid, hot valley where life seems unwanted.
Musharib:" Hrakhamar, at last."
The entrance is a 10-foot-tall arched doorway beneath a massive relief carving of a crossed hammer and tongs. Two iron doors were fitted to the entrance, but one lies on the ground, completely rusted off its hinges, and the other sags so badly it appears as if it could collapse at any moment. Several buildings once stood outside the forge, but they’ve been reduced to their foundations.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Felix sighs as he locks hands with the rest and, before he can say "This sucks." They are back in the material plane. "Well this... Oh we're here!" Quickly lets go of their hands and begins to investigate around the door for any traps.
Ayo sniffs the air, then looks at the masked man: " You are coming from Chult, then. What can you tell me about Chult and Ubtao? What have you learned? "
