Seeing that the magic barrier has been deactivated, Omiy hops across the cavern using her echo, without problem this time. She walks into the treasury and sees Huarache talking to a bigger brain this time.
“Well,” she raises en eyebrow with interest, and pokes Huarache as she whispers, “whose brain is it now? ‘kitten’?” Teasing Huarache using the new nickname she catches, Omiy barely holds back a laugh.
"What body? What are you talking about?" Omiy catches up to Huarache and grabs his arm, "you are going to bring back the Bone Devil's body and give it to the big brain over there? Wouldn't that bring him back to life somehow? Plus, his bones were all smashed to pieces already."
If you're heading back to the temple, you'll see it has not been cleaned up in any way since the battle. The portal throne is no longer operational. The voice devil exodus is still there. If inducted, you can see the tiny kwasit sized cockpit and figure out the general mechanism.
(Have we retconned Omiy* to not have seen the prison now?)
If Huarache and Omiy and anyone else helping bring g the body to the brain in treasury, the brain praises you for bringing it. "Hmm. Excellent! I'll release the journal as soon as you attach my body to this jar." Huarache would see an interface port on the jar and a corresponding port on the exoskeleton. The required cable is among the junk found in the treasury.
Have you taken some of the treasure back across the gap? [Trying to determine e how long this process takes, probably a couple of hours]
First, yes, he has shoved stuff into his bag of holding, moving the treasure out of the treasury. Second, while out of the treasury, he will communicate the predicament of following a proudly evil devil towards Kwalish to the squad. "The thing that's intriguing me most is my armor -- I could fly out of there with Kwalish's journal, but I don't know whether it would get us to Kwalish. I think he's deceiving us, but not about knowing where Kwalish is. I do think he plans to betray us. Additionally, before we leave for good, I do want to get Corliss's brain to the Sphinx. She can teleport, and I don't want to find out whether she can scry and see me double-cross her."
Leann would not be helping with the devil. It would be against her oaths to do so and she would not be party to it. She will not stop the others, they can do as they will. As they do so she would be combing the treasury for anything she would find of interest or use. It sounds like she has a couple hours of time to do so then?
I have described everything that's in the treasury at this point. You have it all collected safely on the far side and the process has taken close to two hours all told. Getting the heavy metal infused large exoskeleton over the gap was pretty challenging, so 2 hours at least. That would put us at something like 8am.
(For those not present earlier, we were in Chult, an equatorial continent which experiences approximately equal hours of light and dark daily throughout the year, as on Earth. If you suspected that you were still in Chult, despite a few portal jumps, the cycle of light and darkness seen since arriving at the monastery would support this view."
So, does Huarach or anyone else plug in the body so the brain will unlock the journal?
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
The body begins to hum and buzz, soi ding a bit like a dial up modem (for those who have ever heard of one).
The exoskeleton's hands reach out for the jar and lifts it from its pedestal. As it does so, the journal at the far end of the cable audibly unlocks from its case. The exosuit. inserts the brain into its chest cavity where Whazzit's cockpit had been. The creature stretches, bending its spine backward as it acclimated to the new but familiar form. "Thanks for the favor. Enjoy your book." The Grand Master hisses.
He slashes at Huaracbe and LeAnn once wirh each claw before he turns tail and takes wing, flying across the gap back toward the abbey.

The engine sputters and winds down, the lights darken and you feel it in your stomach as the ground begins to sink beneath your feet.
From the time Huarache connected the brain and body, you have 18 seconds until the treasury plummets. The attack comes between 6 and 12 seconds. In other words, this takes place across 3 rounds
Leann would not have been inside the treasury at this point. If all of the treasure is on the far side, that is where she would be, as she would have nothing to do with reconnecting the brain to the suit. She would not have any choice but to stop it from being done if she were there, so she would not be there.
well it missed anyhow. its more character than anything. We can say Omiy if she was there, but it's pretty moot. The point is he is a jerk and he did attack the person/people who saved him because he is evil and he never said he wouldn't (this is from the module). 3 rounds is more than enough time to make an exciting escape as the treasury plummets behind Huarache (and maybe Omiy?) dashing away, leaping across the gap. Assembled safely on the mainland, you now have a journal, some obligations and some imminent potential threats. Here again is the map of the monastery.
the floating island at {10} has fallen to the valley floor below. You have yet to explore 2, 4 5 6 and 7. the brains were at 8. the portal throne is at 3, the Sphinx is opposite from 1.
FYI, the journal would have opened with a DC18 Dex check.
Does Huarache get an AoO? Actually, wait, my only good melee weapon (read: magic (because Battle Smith)) isn't activated, so I can't do that. Do I get to shoot at him on my turn?
I suppose it doesn't matter, but Huarache is absolutely going to shoot at him, hit or miss. He lets out a short stream of Gnomish invective at the devil before turning to the others. "Well. I would like to apologize for trusting a devil. On the bright side, I never made any bargains pertaining to souls. We can explore the rest of the monastery to find more information on Kwalish, but I do want to see whether the merrenoloth is fine with me making good on a promise right quick."
You have the three rounds total to do as you please. You would get an AoO; that would be in round 2. You will probably grab the book, an object interaction, draw weapon is another, unless I'm missing something it would have to wait until round 3, at which point he is 40ft away, less your movement which gets you across the gap. At that point you could shoot at him as the treasury collapses. I'm sure you could handle it differently, I am just pointing some things out with that example.
TL/DR: yes and yes
(I can't believe you guys didn't at least take the vorpal blades off his claws before you gave his body back. Also, I don't think you want to fight him again. I'm just playing the module straight as written here. Let me know if I'm mistaken about that.)
I didn't know the blades were vorpal, so welp. I do grap the book, and drawing a weapon is a free action once per turn unless you have something that lets you do otherwise (e.g. Dual Wielder feat). Finally, I was kinda just shooting at him in character rather than trying to actually damage him, but if I get to shoot him, then here:
Attack: 27 Damage: Unable to parse dice roll.
Attack: 14 Damage: 15
(Disadvantage b/c not within 15 feet)

"Alright, I can get you that body," replies Huarache, acknowledging Omiy's arrival but ignoring her tease, "I'll get started on that."
Huarache exits the treasury. "Come on, Omiy. Apparently, the bone devil was a fake. We need to get its body."

It occurs to me to actually ask: can I make an Insight check to determine the devil's sincerity?

Nat 20. He is utterly lawful. He means it. He will release the journal which does reveal Kwalish's location as soon as he can control his body.
I plug his body in.
