"Ah'll 'ear'na more talk o' gettin' rid o' th' ring lad. It's our problem, would'na be right ta dump it off on someone else only ta have a giant show up at their door later, an ah won't see'na giant gettin' it neither. This ring needs ta get ta th' forges o' a Dwarven stronghold."
"Wasn't thinking of getting rid of it not really anyway. Was thinking of disguising it. When I was young, my grandpa told me about these guys who would try to sell farmers magic items. " Marav does air quotes when he says the word magic. "Apparently there is a spell that can make an item look magical when it isn't and make it look non magical when it is. Maybe we can get Ink to do the same, or find a scroll so he can learn it?"
"While I am sure that such a spell exists, I unfortunately, do not know it - and I don't think Rip does either," Ink replies as the group walks towards Tamalin in the courtyard. "With that said, I suppose we could ask to see if there's anyone in town with such a scroll with such a spell on it - or another arcanist I can learn it from," continues Ink.
After a thoughtful pause, Ink says, "I do understand your concern though, Marav. Until we find such a spell, I'll sleep in the cart so that Leomund's Hut could at least obscure it while we're here."
As they close-in on Tamalin and her entourage, Ink , "Good evening, Tamalin Noar... we come by way of Triboar. It seems that we have you to thank for the rapid growth of this settlement. It's been a welcome respite from the road."
Ink introduces the others and then himself, just first names, to Tamalin.
"We would welcome an exchange of information and news," Ink suggests after introductions are made.

The woman nods calmly as you address her. In a refined accent, she says, "Zoar, if you please. Tamalin Zoar. I haven't made a name for myself in these parts only to have it butchered by passing adventurers! Ha!" She then slaps her own knee and guffaws in a rather abrupt shift of character, setting off a chorus of laughter from the others present (save the dragonborn, who merely nods in Tamalin's direction).
"But yes, we're very pleased to make your acquaintance...Ink? Rather an odd choice of appellation for an elf, is it not? I'm sure there's an intriguing story behind that one!" She winks at Ink.
"A party of adventurers, then," she deduces while eyeing you all. "Passing through? Come to retire? As you already observed, we are indeed a respite for the weary. I expect you've been treated well thus far?
After Ink asks for information and news, Tamalin nods her head slowly. "Unless you count weekly troll raids and barbarian horde sightings, in addition to—what was it, Ghithnak, stone giants stomping around?" The dragonborn nods at Tamalin again, taking a pause from his smoking pipe to do so. Tamalin turns back to you and wryly finishes, "I'm afraid we're fresh out of news in these parts.
"All jokes aside, come, take a seat by the fire," she smiles, winking this time at Marav when she catches his eyes. "Where are you coming from?"
"We come by way of Yartar... and, apologies for the mispronunciation - it has been a, for lack a better phrase, terribly long day. As for my own name - it's no real mystery," Ink proclaims as he lifts his hands and arms, palm facing him, making it easy to see the stains of ink that have found their way to his hands and sleeves, continuing, " - I am a prodigious writer, a collector of knowledge, and on the road, the ink tends to get everywhere."
After a chuckle at his own expense, Ink comments, "It is very much a coincidence that you mention trolls - we ran into one not half a day's travel from here. Based on the welts, bruises and other evidence of brutal punishment, I suspect, although some think me crazy, that it was enslaved by the fire giant it was travelling with. She had ordered it to catch our friend here," pointing at Marav, "lunch. Unfortunately, we will not be able to confirm my theory as we ended up dispatching both the troll and the fire giant."
Tamalin's eyebrows raise fractionally at the mention of the fire giant. "Just you...four? Five? Is the halfling with you?" She asks. "You killed a fire giant?" The disbelief in her voice is thinly veiled, and a smile plays at her lips as if she were expecting a punchline.
Ink arches an eyebrow......... a real high elf eyebrow arch.
"Most definitely the halfling is with us."
"Marav. Flint. Could you help me grab something from the bag? I suggest everyone take a few steps back."
Ink places the bag of holding on the floor, and concentrates on the giantess's necklace, provided that Marav and Flint help him out (it is 100 lbs of iron), he grabs for it, takes it out with their help (or takes it out down right comically with a struggle on his own) and drops it rather unceremoniously on the floor in front of the bag. Ink immediately re-shoulders the bag of holding.
And waits.
// Here's hoping that there's still a little bit of giant blood on that necklace. Also - seems that Ink is a little too proud for his own good sometimes. He shouldn't have let people know that he had a bag of holding. Player note - on realizing his folly, Ink will become a bit paranoid and keep the bag in front of him always, until they safely leave the settlement. //
"Nice to meet you m'aam. I'm from a farm a ways from here. When my grandpa died the villagers decided they didn't want my kind around." Marav takes a deep breat. "The trolls are being abused by the giants. Have the trolls been attacking since before the giants went crazy? I fought a troll and had it almost dead and instead of running for it's life it ran back to the giant that was calling for it."
Rip snaps out of his brooding with a "I'm not with them, they are with me! Rip Dangerfield at your service! perhaps you've heard of me, or read one of my books?"
//getting closer to his home so more people would have heard of him//

Rip snaps out of his brooding with a "I'm not with them, they are with me! Rip Dangerfield at your service! perhaps you've heard of me, or read one of my books?"
"Rip Dangerfield? The Rip Dangerfield? My son reads your book. I thought you'd be...taller," Tamalin says, taking a swig from her nearby goblet.
Flint casually pulls the necklace out of the bag and holds it out toward Tamalin.
"Interesting," says the village leader. "A giant necklace? It certainly looks their style. What is a fire giant doing on the Evermoor Way, though? Hunting? And with a troll...doesn't make much sense to me."
"Well, if you've skill in killing trolls, you'll need it. They've infested this area. Don't skimp on the fire. You might want to stock up on oil or torches while you're here, and if any of you know how to make alchemist's fire, even better."
Tamalin shifts in her seat and then stands, reaching for a lute held by one of her compatriots. He hands it over and she begins plucking its strings, absently, arrhythmically. "As for your claims...I find them believable, at least," she says as if she's given the matter some consideration. "I haven't stayed alive this long by being blind with my trust, however. I might have something for you, if your story checks out; a payment of sorts. In any case, thank you for humoring me. You're welcome to stick around, and you're my guests while in Calling Horns. That means free room and board, and my protection extends to you as long as you're within the hold."
"Ooh free room and board thank you. And yeah I'm sure this goes without saying but keep a look out for fire giants as well. They seem to be after adamantium. Oh, I'm Angel by the way. It's nice to meet you."
Angel says with a smile having just politely been listening to the conversation so far.
"Thank you for your hospitality. Would you have any magic dealers her abouts? Specifically looking for a scroll or two. We have fire taken care of pretty handily, but could always use some other things."
"Perhaps we can sell this necklace. No reason to be carrying 100 lbs of iron for no real reason. And if a fire giant used it for jewelry, it would be of exceptional quality."
"Oh he does? Well let it not be said Rip Dangerfield doesn't appreciate his fans!" Rip pulls out copies of his next 2 volumes (our adventure so far-ish) and quickly scrawls his name on them "First editions, not even in print yet! Also I get the taller thing a lot, its like nobody knows how tall halflings are." he shrugs as he hands her the books.
//Rip writes and makes copies during short and long rests and travel time jumps btw :) it's relaxing to him//
