Crownsguard finds two metallic rods that, when touched, give off just the faintest magical aura.

Ink replies, "I'm interested in the pair of Solín Jerier tomes - it's the most sensible path to take, but perhaps you could tell me more of Vontallion Rose. I've never heard of that author before. I've also heard of the Shadow Weave, but it's not talked of too publicly in Silverymoon - could you tell me more of what I could expect from that book and writer? You seem to recognize the author by name."

Crownsguard will pick them up and bring them over to the clerk, “I would like to know about these.”

“Certainly, certainly.” Edmund nods at the both of you as you bring your requests.

“Vontallion Rose, I only know because of this collection of essays. Now, I never really had the talent for spellslinging, but he details some pretty dubious stuff in here. Apparently worshipers of Shar—or those that would be willing to give up a chunk of their soul—could access what Vontallion calls the Shadow Weave. This was considered heretical by the church of Mystra, before the spellplague. Haven’t really followed up on it since then. In any case, the writings are a titillating read.”

Edmund then turns to the two rods. “These have functions. Like so,” he holds one rod out and suddenly it elongates into a pole of approximately ten feet. He uses it to poke the ceiling of the store, chucked, then shrinks it back to its compact form with a flick. 

“And this one, you can hold it like so, and...” he holds out the second rod, depresses a hidden button on one end, and then leaves it there—floating in midair. “It’s immovable. Try it if you like!”

Crownsguard tugs on the rod, “He is correct. It will not move. This seems very useful. How much do you desire for it?”

"Just because I like you, it's 300 for the immovable rod, and 100 for the pole of collapsing."

Crownsguard nods, “A fair price. Would a signature from a construct from ancient Netheril provide any sort of discount? Perhaps it would serve as a ‘collector’s item’ as it were.”

Ink eyes the magical items in wonder and responds after Crownsguard entreating, "Seeing these magnificent works of arcane art reminds me... a friend of our crafted this masterwork armor I have on - I was looking to enchant it with extra defensive properties or the like. I don't suppose you have any books with instructive literature related to the enchantment of mundane items with magical properties would you? Oh - and I see you have an over abundance of those Volo books - how much to take one of those off your hands and ease the burden of their clutter?"

"Also, if I may ask - why haven't you changed the sign outside. I take it this storefront used to belong to Yartarians? We've seen the emblem before."

“Mmm, like I said, I’m no mage, but good ol’ Solín there has things to say about magic-imbued armor in her treatise. I hear it’s a rather lengthy process, and rather costly, which is why more people don’t do it. “Patient” isn’t a word I would use to describe most adventurers, heh.”

Asked about the change in ownership, Edmund nods slowly. “It was...an acquisition. They were in need of a buyout, I had the coin, we made a deal. It was best for everyone in the end, I think.”

The shopkeeper sizes you up again. "Hmm...we could work something out, I'm sure. Perhaps if you'd be willing to identify yourself and give your vocal endorsement for Edmund's Curios here, into this device, a discount could be arranged?" 

He holds up a device that looks almost like a box, made of what looks like brass, with a tube sticking out of one end and many perforations and slits made into the box. "It's a gnomish vocal recorder, which I can set to remember some specific phrases. It recites them perfectly, sounds just like the person who originally said the words."

Crownsguard picks up the tiny box, “I see. Would you like something along these lines, ‘Hello, I am Crownsguard, the sentient Netherese construct, and Edmund’s Curios is my favorite shop in the city.’”

“Perfect!” Edmund pulls a switch on the box, which sounds a tinny (but quite accurate) imitation of your own voice: 

“Hello, I am Crownsguard, the sentient Netherese construct, and Edmund’s Curios is my favorite shop in the city.”

Edmund says, “We’ll see how well it does at generating business, but for I‘m happy to give you a 10% discount for the endorsement.”

Crownsguard gives a thumbs up to Ink, “Which would you like? Or would you prefer both?”

"Well," Ink replies, "I do think that the collapsing pole would be of use, one in our party has an immovable rod, but I can see the benefit of having two - one can literally climb through the air. I wish they were here to chime in on what they think we should do." 

Then to Edmund he adds,  "I also want to take the two Solín books and the Vontallion Rose book. Oh, and what about that new Volo book - you seem to have a ton of those."
