Killilli’s Dragon Heist

“Those wouldn’t have been our people.” Rishaal assures Kerri, flipping through the book“Probably just the temple trying to shake you up. The house of wonder, though generally cooperative, often like to step on our toes a little. I see.... this is quite curious. They claim your gifts are divine in nature, though now you aren’t affiliated with them I believe you could benefit from the perks of signing up.”

Turning his attention to Aimee, the dragonborn sighs, “Oh, poor child... they do not want you back... they are seeking legal action. Disorderly conduct within a temple, Vandalism and Arson. You could be facing fines of over two and a half thousand dragons as well as imprisonment and hard labour. If I’m found to have hidden this information, they will charge me too. I’m sorry young one I will have to report you.” Rishaal looks away, his eyes sunken before finding resolve and picking up his quill. “Young Aimee, if I could register you with the order, maybe you could have at least some protection when it comes to trial. I’ll include your rescue of a lord, that should help sway things.....”

”In the meantime, if you would be so mind as to help me, well not me but a friend. One of my loyal customers is a farmer in the Undercliff, and he delivers the finest spicy red peppers I’ve ever tasted in exchange for books. Unfortunately, his crops have been sabotaged by a scarecrow come to life. He watch aren’t taking it seriously at all, but something must be done.”

Aimee is honestly confused now,

"Huh? The just had me there a day ago? Why would they send me out if they wanted me arrested? Must be a mistake! Who is the one they say is reporting me? And sure I'll join!"

On the next point,

"Sure! Haven't been out of town since I came to town!"

"THAT'S NOT FAIR!", Lyss protests. "Aimee didn't mean for anything like that to happen! Oh, if signing up can help, I think you should do it! Maybe Mister Volo can help too, and Mister Durnan likes us, I think, we helped save his tavern! And I bet Threestrings can write a song about how brave and great you are and we'll get the people behind us too, and then they can't take you away!"

Lyss throws herself at Aimee in a hug.

"If we help the pepper man, you can sign us all up with your order, and teach me magic and help protect Aimee? Can we do that Kerri?", she asks, looking up to Kerri from where she's still hugging Aimee.

Aimee smiles happily at Lyss and hugs her back,

"Thanks Lyss! I'm sure it is just a mistake! All those people are great though!"

Aimee is joyfully confident in her assessments.

Spark peers at him.

"Are you a moron?  Got anything going on in there?  This is new—never worked with it before.  Can’t give you an accurate estimate when I have no idea if it’ll even work or not."

Kerri seems very confused. "She.... she's a child.. why on earth would they seek out that kind of money for a child?"

She sighs, "I'd be very glad to help. As much as I respect the acolytes at the House of Wonders... more distance with them is probably better in this moment."

At the shop - ”Yes, yes, of course, I will need the membership fees up front. It will be five dragons (gp) each. I expect you will have a black cloak turning up at some point, but hopefully they will take these things into consideration ” 

"I got us! Consider it a gift from Red."

Lyss spills out a handful of gold on the counter. "Oh, and for any of Kerri and Aimee's books too. Do you have any magic books for beginners, now that I'm part of your club? I need to do magic if I'm gonna be in a magic club."

Spark

The halfling does a half turn back to Spark, “Well then, let’s get an appraisal then, I have a little time to wait while you check it over. Shall I come in?

At the Shop 

”Now, now, these books do not leave the shop. I could transfer some starter spells into a book of your own, and I shall do the first lot in exchange for this task. If you return tomorrow I will teach you the rudiments.”

Lyss eyes him shrewdly. "Deal."

She sticks out a little halfling hand to shake on it.

"Right guys? We can help with the pepper guy, so then I can learn magic too?"

Spark narrows his eyes, then nods grudgingly.

”Fine.  No touching, no talking, no peering over my shoulder.”

"Okay! Do I need a black cloak now too? Now that I am one?"

To Lyss,

"Pepper person sounds fun!"

“No, no, you are not a black cloak. Please don’t tell anyone you are or they’ll add impersonating an official onto the charge!” Rishaal rubs his forehead in frustration.

Spark

Nevercott follows you to your makeshift workshop. (What room of the house is it in and what have you done with it?) He hands over the pistol, watching intently as at what you will do. (Depending on what you do, feel free to roll a check you feel is appropriate, I’ll correct if I think it will be different.)

"Black cloaks are people? Not cloaks? That's a dumb name. We should get our own color cloaks. How do we help Pepperman?"

"Okay! No black cloaks! Dark gray is okay though? Cloaks really aren't my thing so if I can skip it, great!"

Aimee smiles at Rishaal and winks. Even Aimee knows how to tease.

"Yep, on to Pepper man!"

Spark would have converted one of the bedrooms into his lab, liberally scattering scrap metal everywhere and setting up a table.  He pours over the object, trying to figure out how the inner mechanisms work.

Investigation: 23

((How much should Lyss deduct for membership (15gp) plus all the books Aimee has picked out? Kerri getting anything?))

Kerri pinches the base of her nose, and simply says, "Sorry," to Rishaal. "Where can we find your friend again? And should I be worried about any conflicts coming from the disputing origin of my... spells? I mean... I've never met a wizard who could cast a healing spell."

(I believe it was 15gp for a months membership fees, plus 2gp for the poltergeist book and a shard for the selection of literature for Aimees reading pleasure.)

“If you find Pyter Pepper’s Pepper Plantation just to he south of Mae May’s Maize Maze, in the undercliff, you can’t miss it. I’m sure he’ll fill you in on the scarecrows latest sighting. Just be careful, you’ll need to leave and re-enter town, and they’ll be sure to question you. Being registered with the order will ease their minds greatly though.” He smiles at Kerri warmly, “The only issue we at the order are concerned about are any crimes or havoc caused by spell casting, your healing should only reflect on us positively. Now everyone, I just need you all to sign here with this quill...”

Back at the Manor

Spark, as you look over this contraption, you start to figure out how it all works. There are some rare components in the pistol that pique your interest. Strangely though, nothing seems broken, one of the mechanisms is disconnected but there is no damage to any of the parts. It would be a delicate task to reconnect it but with your skill you believe you could do it fairly quickly.
