When Kanithar puts his hand on her shoulder, Eve looks right at it, and then quickly up at his smiling face.
With each phrase: ‘wychlaran’... ‘given by the gods’... ‘in service of the good’, she smiles.. And then smiles some more... And by the end she’s just positively beaming at him, not even trying to hide her double rows of needle teeth.
She hopes that’s all true. Right now she almost believes it anyway.
And as he turns away, she scrunches all her features up again, remembering, and says “Oh no, actually the fish were worse than useless!!.... ha!”. And she goes back to investigating too, but with a little grin on her face.
Garcis: The hunter looks at you incredulously, "Sir, there are no maps of the Ashenwood because no one goes in there. It has always been considered sacred ground by the Wychlaran and until recently we were not given leave to enter it to hunt. If there is a place best avoided, it's the center." With that, the hunter takes his leave and heads back into town.
Kanithar: You search around the bedroom and find that it is well kept and clean, the only thing of note is a ring lying on a nightstand by the left side of the bed. The ring is a golden band with a small dome type shape on the top. You've seen enough death and slaughter in your life to understand it is meant to be patterned to look like a small brain.
Edge: You know a few times on the door to the house, but no one answers. Due to the time of day, you realize that everyone might be doing work around the town.
Kaseon: When giving your suggestive wink, she puts her hand over her mouth and giggles like someone with a secret. "Oh, well I seriously doubt he had late night visitors, the rumor around town was that the" She giggles and ponders on how to put her next words, "The sails are there, they just don't fly." She giggles more and puts her hands over her mouth.
Eve: The cards are just in a pile and aren't arranged in any way to determine what game might have been played, but smelling the cups, you do notice an odd acrid smell to one of them.
When Eve sniffs the cups, she says to Kanithar (and anyone else that wanders into the house) “Don’t touch these cups, but sniff this one, and then this one”, she says wrinkling up her nose. “Do you get a kind of odd acrid smell off that one? Have you smelled anything like that before?”. She doesn’t know why but she’s still whispering.
((OOC: @DM - Is there any chance we would recognise the smell specifically. Eve has criminal background but not alchemy or anything. Or is there a roll to try? Otherwise do we just guess foul-play or some kind of poison?))
Kaseon smiles easily back and raises his eyebrows in exaggerated surprise, “Oh, oh my, the poor man. Well, in this case, I suppose that’s good news. Anything else you can remember about him and his habits? Anything at all might help us and would be greatly appreciated?”
Garcis nods and sighs as the hunters make their way back into the village. He makes his way back over to the others. "They do not seem to know much of the area outside of the village. The hunters I spoke to said they have not been able to go there until recently."
Senna responds to Garcis as he delivers the news about the hunters.
What do you mean untill recently? What has changed?
She thinks a moment.
What if not everyone agreed with giving the hunters permission to hunt there? I think we need to search these woods, whatever the boarman was im sure it must of come from that place.
Edge turns away from the other houses and makes his way to the back door of the anglers house, looking for footprints as he goes, and then makes his way back around to where the rest of the group are.
Eve: It does not seem like any poison you have ever smelled in your life. If you had to make a guess, you would say it balances between medicine-y and dried urine or something.
Kaseon: She thinks for a moment and shakes her head, "The only thing he did was fish and drink. He spoke of a deceased wife once I believe."
Kanithar: You had smelled something odd when you came in, but now having it directly in your face, the smell is overwhelming. You can't pick apart the mixed scents and have no clue what it might be.
Edge: As you look for footprints, you can barely make out what is a older boot print in a bit of mud by the house. Checking more you find another print heading from Madenal's back door headed between the houses back towards the town square. The rain last night has washed the majority of what might have been left of the prints away and checking between the houses, the prints disappear into the grass.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Eve recoils a little from the smell and wrinkles her nose up in disgust, and mutters to Kanithar, “He must have been very drunk not to have noticed the smell.... Either that or it’s become more rancid over time?... How long was it since he was taken ill? Some days ago I think”.
Eve steps back and tries something: she holds her hand out and casts minor illusion to create a perfect replica of the bottle and liquid. “There, I can do it!” She smiles up at Kanithar, proud. “That way, we can ask around town if anyone sold a bottle like this recently to anyone”. She tries the same trick to produce an accurate image of the cards too. Happy with herself, she gets up from the table and chairs and walks delicately around the room again.
She will search the rest of the house for anything else that stands out...
Edge makes his way inside the front door Madenal’s house to see if the others have found anything. Catching the last of their conversation about the smell of a liquid, Edge pauses, thinking.
”Friend, Kanithar. Edge not deal with animals. But hear stories. Many stories on travels. Some say use urine keep animals away. Is true? Maybe was scared.”
Kanithar rubs his flat ugly nose in disgust and makes a guttural grunt.
"No ale and whisky would ever be strong enough to get me to put that in my mouth..."
Turning from the rancid, overpowering liquid he heads back into the center of the room and looks as Eve walks about. Remembering what he already found, he withdraws the ring from his pocket.
"Hey...little wychlaran...take a look at this and see if you can know anything more about it than I do."
As Eve completes her check he will present her the ring for inspection.
Kaseon thanks the woman with another bow and rejoins the others, "Neighbor lady says he didn't have many visitors, but may have had a wife who died some years ago. She also hinted that his lack if female company was the result of a physical issue, one some men will go to great lengths to correct."
Eve holds the ring up and turns it over in her hands. “That’s a strange ring... and an unusual symbol... ...I’m not getting anything from it. Maybe Kaseon or Senna would know something more?”. She hands it back to Kanithar. “It’s definitely a lead to chase down though. Keep hold of it”.
Eve tries to replicate the ring with her minor illusion spell too. She’s slowly building up a memory bank of clues.
"Yes they said they had not been allowed to hunt due to what I guess may be a people more native to this region." Garcis says with a bit of a shrug as he crosses his arms in thought. It would seem they would need to make a map of their own.
Eve puts her hand softly but urgently on Kanithar’s arm, “I don’t think anyone should put that ring on, at least until we know what it is!... ..It could cause the illness! Or be..”, she looks ashamed, momentarily, ”..it could be cursed... or anything...”.
”If we’ve finished here, let’s regroup and decide on our next move...”. She heads out into the street and waits for those in the house to finish up and join her. At the same time, she looks about for the others and beckons them over if she sees anyone.

Edge looks over Eve's shoulder as she examines it.
"Maybe ring have magic," Edge says. "Look like brain. Maybe make smart."
He moves a fur covered hand towards it then stops, and pulls it back.
"But maybe control brain?"
"Yes they said they had not been allowed to hunt due to what I guess may be a people more native to this region." Garcis says with a bit of a shrug as he crosses his arms in thought. It would seem they would need to make a map of their own.
(assuming Senna isnt near Kanithar since she didnt go into the house so dont know bout the ring yet)
Well Garcis, perhaps its time we made a map of it then. Im sure we can learn more out there.
She looks around to see where everyone is. Perhaps we should ask the others if to come as well, we might run into more of those boarmen.
