Vedui nods at Jormund's suggestion..."It seems entering at that location may be better....at least it was scouted before. I am not sure we wish to risk another guard going down where the previous group is missing"
Sir Henry will hear your discussions and chime in "Well, Jormund, I don't think we can say with any degree of certainty this map is complete. I have no further information, but these sewers have existed through several iterations of Amphail being built and rebuilt after fires or war, so it is possible that there are undiscovered passages throughout. I have all on-duty guards currently patrolling the rest of the town, or keeping an eye on all known access points to the sewers, so we are stretched a bit thin presently. However, if you wish for the sentries at any given entrance to cause a stir and perhaps create some distraction, I will give them the orders. Gather your supplies, then present this to any sentry guards you come across" As he scribbles, signs, and seals a short note telling any guards to corporate with your needs as much as possible without abandoning their watch posts.
I am deeply grateful for your help in this matter. Is there anything else you require?
"It seems we have a plan as well...have the guards create a distraction and one access point while we head down the other? Of all of us here, who is capable of moving quietly besides myself and Bryn.?"
Hey all! So unless there is disagreement, you all make your preparations and then travel to the northwest entry point. You find yourself at a grated pit about 4 ft across and 30ft deep, with a sickly sweet smell of decaying sewage and plant matter. The grate moves without much issue and a set of rickety ladder rungs are built into the wall going down.
“Rock, paper, scissors to see who goes first?” Bryn says with a smile while holding a clenched fist up. “Sorry, couldn’t resist. I don’t mind going down first since I won’t need a torch to see things and make sure safe for everyone else to come down.”
As the other in group stand there contemplating amongst themselves as to who should goes first, Bryn makes the decision for them and climbs down the ladder rungs.
Dex: 6
One of the ladder rungs gives way at the least opportune moment and Bryn tumbles down the shaft.
Acrobatics: 18
Luckily Bryn is able to roll with the abrupt landing and only suffers a slightly bruised ego for having fallen in the first place.
Hey All! State of the thread check here. Who is interested in continuing? I'll give it a week, but if I haven''t heard from you then, I'll assume you have chosen to move on from this game, and adjust accordingly. No hard feelings if you choose to move on, I loved the contributions you all brought to this game. I just don't want to slow down too much for those who wish to continue.
(Life has not been easy on me so that I can make frequent responses, but I'm willing to continue, as things are probably turning out for the better now.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Bryn, you land on the bottom of the shaft with a loud thunk, and as you gain your bearings, you find yourself crouched in the middle of a 5ft wide tunnel that runs east to west and is coated 2ft deep in a hundred years worth of drainage, sludge, and waste.
Since you dropped about 20ft, you'll take 6 damage. However, take only half due to your graceful landing.
Vedui, you think that this rope will assist in getting down to the bottom of the shaft. No check will be needed to climb down this rope for the rest of the party. Do you all descend?
With her sight being limited or not, Ann will take action to be among the first to come down. The first thing she does open touching the floor is to grab her shield. "I'll keep my hearing focused. Even with a light, there's only so much I can see, so we'll end up noticing any noises first."
So, peering down the tunnels to the east and west, while keeping your ears tuned for any activity, you see 2 partially filled tunnels disappear beyond the range of the light coming down the manhole, leading off into inky blackness in both directions. You know from the map that the lost patrol was last seen in the tunnels to the west of here. So far, your darkvision/hearing pick up only abandoned tunnels, with a low, trickling sound of sluggish water moving down the tunnel to break up the silence. As you (assumedly) move into the tunnels, can each of you give me:
1. Stealth checks
2. Survival checks
3. Perception/Investigation Checks. (your choice, with disadvantage if you proceed without light)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(Rolling with the assumption that those with dark vision do not disadvantage with Perception/Investigation. If the assumption is in error will add a second roll in an edit)

Jormund
Jormund goes after everyone, slowly lowering himself over the edge using the rope hand-over-hand, trying not to jingle like a winter-sledge decorated with chainmail. By the time he steps down to the bottom his Under-vision has adjusted to take in the scene. He thinks to himself, "Smells like goblin-living... kinda wish I didn't smell-in-the-dark sometimes..."
As you 3 walk down the murky corridor, your progress is silent, only occasionally broken up by scrape of metal plates over metal despite Jormund's best efforts to remain quiet. As you progress, you keep your eyes scanning for any sign of the missing guards or other human progress.
Ann, you follow along with Bryn and Jormund, while your teammates remain behind to guard the sewer entrance.
About 200 yards down the passage, Bryn, you step into a pothole in the bottom of the tunnel, stumbling forward and catching yourself on the wall. However, as you push yourself upright, you notice another handprint on the wall right next to where you just caught yourself. You don't have any idea how long ago it was made, in these dank tunnels tracks age differently than in the forests of your homeland.
Jormund, as you progress down the passage, you detect an anomaly in the wall of the tunnel. As you progress down the tunnel, you have noticed the occasional side drain entering into the main tunnel, no more than 2 ft across. However, this drain is obstructed by a round shield wedged tight against the surface, but covered in mud and filth.
Vedui nods at Jormund's suggestion..."It seems entering at that location may be better....at least it was scouted before. I am not sure we wish to risk another guard going down where the previous group is missing"
