Vurnic crumples under Nara's blow leaving no-one left to oppose. Congratulations! Marmaduke, Ogguimash, Nara, and Gordon are Victorious, though still a bit dazed and grumpy about early setbacks, or has that all washed away in the glory?
Zevryl, Vurnic, Scarab, and Pendragon come to some time later in the head medic's office (HMO) battered, bruised, beaten, and burned, but also stronger, wiser, and wealthier. You each gain 80 gold and 400 experience.
Basil revives Marmaduke with a healing potion and presents the victors to their fans in the crowd. He leads the group off of the field and down to the prize room. You each gain 200 gold and 600 xp to advance to level 3. Inside the prize room...
Tier 1:
"Take any one item. We're well equipped." The room contains every item from Chapter 5 of the Player's Handbook weighing 70 pounds or less, armor of varying sizes, instruments, tool kits. There are also spell scrolls, every first level spell is present (as well as spell scrolls of a level for which a magic user of the characters new level would have slots for), and an encyclopedia of knowledge. Reading these books will grant you proficiency with any one of tool kit or any one language, depending which book you choose. The books are magically infused to allow easy retention, but the magic is lost once used.
Upper Tier:
The victor may choose instead, an item from a magically infused chest that summons 10 randomly selected magic items to choose from (rarity determined by level). Alternatively they may exchange a magic item for another item of their choosing of the same rarity or lower, if the administrator has the requested item in his extensive collection. "You name it, we've probably got one somewhere."
The first match of the next day will feature any interested level 4 competitors. The match will begin in about 24 hours.
To win... 2... Control Points. Four flags on the field can be captured. Begin and end your turn within 10 feet of a flag while insuring your opponents don't share the space to capture the point. Capture all four flags or control more flags for 5 consecutive rounds to win.
The time: 2, Dawn. The sun has risen, but the first rays aren't adequate for weeding out stealthy competitors. Checks relying on sight suffer disadvantage without Darkvision.
The arena shapers have prepared the battlefield. A cold quiet field with low loose stone walls and wooden palisades waits with large heavy boulders and sturdy but Barren trees.
