Phillip blasted the red Grung with everything he had, hoping to make the other Grungs think better of it and flee. But it only seemed to enrage them!
He stands, breathing heavily, all of his energies spent. He looks around, as the remaining ambushers attack the party. Thankfully most of the Grungs miss, and the party step up to the challenge and fight back.
As he’s getting his breath back, he sees Gotur summon an almighty storm in front of his very eyes. He stares in awe, and a bolt of lightning blasts a group of three green Grungs out of a tree. One of them is still moving... He draws his bow and fires at the injured Grung...
Movement: if need be, he’ll move slightly to make sure he’s in his short range (80ft), otherwise he’ll hold his ground.

Phillip moves slightly just to get in range as that grung is still up in the tree. His arrow flies true and sticks the grung in the chest. It kills the thing and its lifeless grung body falls to the ground from the tree. You can't tell if the poison worked as the grung was dead long before the poison was into the bloodsteam.
Eku sees Phillip take out the grung and telepathically says to him let me deal with this one. I have a way with squeezing a surrender out of people
She will try and wrap her tail/body around the tree and the orange grung, essentially constricting the grung against the tree!
Constrict: 8 Damage: 12
It's a success. The orange grung takes the smack from the tail as it wraps around the tree and the grung. The grung is grappled, and until that ends it is also restrained.
The grungs are up, which I will start a new post for.
Evo, Alton, Gotur, Azaka, Phillip, Eku, Orange Grungs, Green Grungs
*Eku has a plan this time with the grapple and poison!
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Eku was ok with the risk of the poison as she really wants to scare this grung. She easily resists the poison from the skin of it and will make the save each turn as long as she's grappled with it. She says, in fluent grung "Call off the tribe, NOW. Do it and I shall think about releasing you and letting you live another day. I can't promise my allies will agree, especially the one who created that storm cloud, but that is my offer. Call them off, NOW."
The grungs looks quite scared now with the lightning and the arrows killing, but continue to fight for now.
The orange grappled grung tries to escape and says "NEVER!" and tries to escape with disadvantage as it's restrained. It fails and the Couatl grins at the grung. (roll for that is in that other OOC roller thread.)
The other orange grung, seeing it's comrade get constricted, tries to shoot an arrow at Eku. Shortbow: 16 Damage: 9
The two green grungs near Alton take out more daggers and throw them down towards the poisoned Alton. Disadvantage again due to the distance.
Dagger: 7 Damage: 5
Dagger: 6 Damage: 6
The green grung on the ground that Evo is currently trying to get moves a bit closer and throws a dagger at him, still with disadvantage due to distance.
And the 2 south green grungs in the tree chuck more daggers at Azaka.
Dagger: 11 Damage: 4
Dagger: 20 Damage: 4
Results to come next post. what I will do is usually put all saving throws and rolls that are between main rolls in the roller thread. Goal is to avoid having those large roller screwups.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Recap:
- Orange grung fails grapple escape
- Orange grung misses with arrow shot to Eku
- One green grung hits Alton with dagger (-4), Alton, please make CON save. DC is 12 and fail takes 5 more poison damage. You're already poisoned so the 1 min timer will just reset if fail.
- The other green grung misses Alton
- Green grung on ground misses Evo with the dagger chuck.
- The green grung hits Azaka again with the dagger, but this time causes her no damage as she resists the poison.
Seeing not many more Grung to attack from his vantage, Alton loads his crossbow once again, and will take a shot at the nearest green grung up in the tree next to him (still at disadvantage due to poison).
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
On his turn, Phillip looks around at the dwindling number of Grungs and at the impressive display from his friends. He targets the most damaged looking green Grung and, maintaining his position in the middle everything, shoots an arrow at it...
Alton, you manage to fight off the poison damage from the previous attack and do not take that extra 5! You might think to yourself that this poison is pretty weak as you're easily able to focus as you hit the grung in the tree near you with your crossbow. It had its full HP but now looks real bad after taking that bolt to its body.
Gotur, you point and immediately the lightning strikes the grung, the thing barely hanging on to the tree by a few pads of its feet.
Azaka takes aim, this time at the grung who just got fried by the lightning.
Longbow: 18 Damage: 4
and she finishes it off. It falls out of the tree, dead.
Phillip, your arrow flies directly at the grung near Alton in the tree and sticks it, killing it and then falls down to the jungle. The poison flows through the corpse, no save needed.
Eku is up, I will start a new post for that.
Evo, Alton, Gotur, Azaka, Phillip, Eku, Orange Grungs, Green Grungs
Eku continues to constrict the yellow grung, not caring about the poison. It doesn't seem to affect her. She says in grung to the grung "YOU SEE?! We are destroying you. This is your last chance."
The grung's eyes almost pop out. It says to Eku in grung which Phillip can also hear "AAARRRGGGHHHHH!! UUGHHHH OK! OK! I CALL OFF TRIBE! PLEASE!"and the grung makes no further action.
The other yellow grung orders the other two remaining green grungs to stop throwing their daggers and to stand down. It also yells out in grung "YES! Yes. We give up. Let us live and we take you to treasure. Then you let us go."
The green grungs look thankfully at their bosses and stop throwing their knives. They take no action.
The grung bosses, the yellow ones, have realized the sheer power of this group. With the accuracy of the arrows, bolts and powerful magic along with their comrades falling all around them, they are surrendering and offering to take you to some treasure that is a half-mile from this location. The green ones are listening to their leaders.
Only Eku and Phillip can understand the grungs. Eku would've yelled out that they're surrendering likely before round 4 starts so the party knows as well as the fact that the green ones didn't attack in round 3.
Anyone can take a turn at this point. If no attacks are made, consider combat over, and the grungs want to take you 1/2 mile west (this will not take you off the day's course) to treasure in exchange for you letting them go.
Goturkeeps the lightning cracking down for a little longer, though placing it where it won't deal damage to anyone, just looking to reinforce the idea that they best not mess with this party.
Phillip repeats Eku’s words again to the party, “They surrender!!..... and they offer us treasure to spare them....”. He squints and takes the measure of each Grung in turn...
((OOC: Does Phillip believe the offer of treasure? Insight check (if needed): 12 ))
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
The surviving grungs can't stop watching the sporadic crackling lightning, and the orange grung says to Phillip and Eku. "We sorry. You let us live? I even can just tell you where treasure is. Then we leave and you go get treasure alone. Or we show you where it is and then we leave. Either way, you let us live, yes?"
Phillip, you believe their offer.
Eku says to the grungs "Let this moment in time be a grave lesson for you all. If I EVER see any of you again doing evil deeds, I shall not be as lenient."
Eku would say to the others "I am ok with letting these creatures go. I can fly over to the treasure and see what it is from the air. You can decide what to do with them."
2
Eku will return and tell you that the 'treasure' is just a rain catcher and a mess kit.
It's the end of DAY 6. There will be no more encounters for today. I have moved the marker on the chult map for the day's travel. There were 2 encounters on day 6 - skeletons and grungs, both of which the party dispatched easily. During camp, Eku and Azaka would've likely playfully boasted a bit about their damage immunities, Azaka would've been more thankful about her mask to everyone, and Eku is eager to take out Nanny Poo-Poo. "Still a long journey ahead, quite possibly more difficult foes as well." They both also would've been quite impressed with Gotur's lightning magic as well as Alton's accuracy with his crossbow. They seem to view Evo as a leader and they never knew the little grung P'lip from the city was such as badass in combat. They are glad everyone is ok and Eku is happy that the party decided to let the grungs go. Loyalty score Eku +1.
(if the party killed the grungs, the loyalty for Eku will be -1)
DAY 7 - 8:00 AM
1. Direction = NE
2. Speed = Eku suggests the party books it fast today to get to the river possibly in a day. Do you agree?
3. Navigator = Phillip, no check required due to feature
4. 12 (49) / 13 (96) / 18 (43)
Let me know about the grungs and about the speed of day 7 travel and then I will process the above.

Phillip is up.

Map is updated.
Evo maces the nearest grung to the mace and sacred flames an injured green grung.

Evo, the magical force of the mace smashes the orange grung and it's looking pretty concerned now as their hunting party seems to be fading.
Then, giving Alton some relief, your radiant flames scorch the northernmost grung, and it falls dead to the jungle.
Alton is up! He's poisoned. Then Gotur.
Map is updated.
Evo, Alton, Gotur, Azaka, Phillip, Eku, Orange Grungs, Green Grungs
Gotur, wind still swirling around him, points towards the tree on the far side of Azaka, bringing a bolt of lightning down on the Grung perched in it.
