i am attempting to make the artificers tool All Purpose Tool and havent found formulas or any info on what it would take to craft this item. Any ideas or help would be appreciated.
There are no set formulas for the creation of magic items, it’s all up to your DM. The rules for crafting magic items can be found either in the DMG for the crappy rules, or in Xanathar’s Guide for the way less crappy rules.
It states that there are formulas for the creation of items. Specialty materials and spells just for example. Ive read DMG as well as Xanathars and Tashas. There is no notation for what is needed to create this item. I realize it is up to the DM, however i am looking for ideas from those that know the game a little better than i do.
It’s up to the DM to create the formula and determine which specialty materials and spells are required. I could suggest that it would require a masterwork set of every tool kit, 10 lbs of Adamantine and 10 lbs of Mithral to manufacture the tool, and that you must cast magic weapon at an appropriate level to match the desired bonus and a different cantrip on the components every day of the process for the duration of the construction in order to make an all purpose tool. But if your DM says it requires the thigh bone of a balor and 1,000 gallons of chicken blood then it doesn’t matter what I suggest. 🤷♂️
I would suggest it require 5 particularly different sets of tools: 1 that works with liquids (alchemist, brewer, cook), 1 that works with paper (calligrapher, cartographer, painter), 1 that works with wood (carpenter, woodcarver, cobbler), 1 that works with metal/stone, and 1 that doesn't fall into any of those categories, all of fine quality, in mint condition, clean, and unused. Combine with prescious metals (type depending on rarity) using tinker tools while casting magic weapon at a level appropriate for the rarity.
But like Sposta said, up to DM. They could easily replace the "prescious metal" ingredient with a material from a monster or its nest for example. There is no "right answer" it is all made up.
