I hen casting giant insect, can you mix and match insects, such as 6 giant centipedes & 2 giant wasps? I don’t see anything preventing that, but I wanted to get other people’s reads on it.
How i read it the spell let you transform up to ten centipedes, three spiders, five wasps, or one scorpion within range into giant versions of their natural forms without specifying you can mix and match so it's one insect type.
Yeah, I read it as (up to ten centipedes) OR (up to three spiders) OR (up to five wasps) OR one scorpion. Compare with the wording on Animate Objects which does let you mix and match.
I also read no to mix and match. You probably could, but you’d need to be careful about not making it over or under powered. As it is, you can get a lot of low CR creatures, or fewer high CR creatures, so if you allow mix and match, you could end up with something stronger than intended. I’d want to spend time running the numbers before I allowed a different combo. In you example, maybe 5 centipedes and 2 wasps would be ok, but 6 wouldn’t. I don’t know if that’s right, just a hypothetical without actually checking.
I mean, it doesn't feel completely wack to allow conversions, leaning towards the conservative - so allowing 5 centipedes and 1 spider, for instance. It that the intended understanding? Propably not. Would I allow it as GM? Well, maybe. I mean, I wouldn't need to, I decide what little critters are available, so I could just dictate: You turn over a rock, and lo and behold, hidden thereunder you find three spiders.

Blanket disclaimer: I only ever state opinion. But I can sound terribly dogmatic - so if you feel I'm trying to tell you what to think, I'm really not, I swear. I'm telling you what I think, that's all.
