I apologize if this has been posted before, brand new here. Is there anywhere I can find a specific price for the magic items. And again if this has been posted or if this is a simple answer I do apologize.
The DMG has rules for selling magic items, but they are extremely broad and should be used with quite a bit of discretion if you intent to allow purchasing items.
I know this is an older thread, but bless you for this information. This is going to be so helpful while I'm prepping for my new teen d&d club for my library!
Just bumping this thread as the sane magic item list is an invaluable resource for me, makes much more sense in terms of magic item costs then the DMG
We *do* have Xanathar's rules now, although the price is still based only on rarity, not utility. Prices functionally range from 145 for a common to 175,100 for a legendary, plus additional fees depending on whether you're getting a bonus to the roll and how your DM decides to interpret the rules for getting said bonus.

I still find xanathars to be a bit too low, I think the main thing is the DMG didn’t link how powerful an item is to the players to the rarity, for instance good no from that rough basis the cloak of elvenkind would come in max 500 when really the benifit probably should make that somewhere between 1000-1500. I also don’t like rolling for magic item prices, when I stock my magic shops I know what’s in there, the advertised price and, what the owner paid for it so i know what they can realistically be talked down to.
But what about Common magical items that don't really do anything game breaking but instead more fluff? I recently found the Pipe of Remembrance and I'm like... That's so cool fluff, but I have no idea how much it's worth! Lol

The base price for Common magic items (from Xanathar's) is 100gp, or half that much for consumables.

My druggie druid has a pipe of remembrance and I love it. It's a built-in powerpoint presentation to accompany your tails of glory that always presents things in the best possible way. Keep in mind the cost of non-magical plate armour for comparison.
Some of the prices from the "Same Magic Prices" list are wildly out of proportion... Though a weapon of warning gives the wielder advantage on initiative rolls, the other ability granted by this item is highly situational for parties that post watches and take precautions to start with, and if your DM doesn't apply these situations with high regularity, then the 60,000 GP price tag is HIGHLY excessive for a weapon that gives no combat bonus what-so-ever, other than advantage on initiative... 5 to 10 K would be more appropriate.
500 GP for Adamantine Armor seems proportionately low on the other hand. Granted it only keeps you from suffering critical hits... yeah "only"... critical hits can be game changing and this item cancels them completely for a mere 500 GP ??? Yeah, that's not sane at all... 7,500 to 15K would be a better range.
There are several others like this on the list, but I'm not going to go into them all... just wanted to say the list is flawed and not accurate.

the 500 GP is on top of the normal armour price and given the price of a +1 AC I think it is about fair, I will agree though that as with all magic item prices the DM has to apply a bit of discretion but, I have found generally they stand about right for the game, at least to allow a sense of value against other magic items. It is a far better price list the the hand waving of the DMG.

The base price for Plate Armor is 1,500 GP and gives AC: 18 ......... Adamantine Plate costs 2,000 GP and gives AC: 18 AND NEGATES CRITICAL HITS... COMPLETELY for only 500 GP more???... for only 500 GP more, I wouldn't buy armor that WASN'T adamantine.
Decanter of Endless Water.... 135,000 GP ?!?!?!... I can find better ARTIFACTS and multiple for that craziness
Weapon of Warning.... 60,000 GP ?!?!?!... forget that when I can buy a +3 Weapon, AND +3 Armor, AND +3 Shield for 64K (+1, 2 and 3 items are underpriced)
Obsidian Steed.... 128,000 GP ?!?!?!... Please!
Frostbrand Sword.... 2,200 GP ?!?!?!... with the bonuses this thing provides there should be another 0 added to the end of the number... at least.
Necklace of Adaptation.... 1,500 GP ?!?!?!... just wow on that bargain.
The lack of sense for the prices on this list go on and on, so I just don't understand why people think this list is so great.

There isn't a price list in 5e as the idea for Magic Items is that they cant always be bought, magic shops don't exist or don't have wide selections.
That being said, a community price list was done a year or so back - I know my group and a lot of others use this: Sane Magic Item Prices / SMIP pdf

A price table should be handy information, even I don't allow them to buy easily.
noice

That seems really expensive for an item that doesn't do anything other than smoke. Lol
