I was looking at the centaur unearthed arcana race and it seems to be decent. But then I thought of something. Lances. They require 2 hands when mounted. Do centaurs need to use 2 hands or 1? And what armor do you use? Normal or mount armor?

TL;DR: probably 2 hands and normal armor, for balance sake
I'm guessing that Ravnica will solidify this since there the centaurs are officially a player race and not UA material. That said, I'd say they do not count as "mounted" for the purpose of using a lance or abilities/features. To keep things fair I think that they use normal armor, but I'd understand it if a DM would count it as "barding" instead. I mean, if they were forced to purchase special armor that would make them significantly less interesting to play as paladins/fighters that rely on heavy armor. I also think that in one on one combat the rump of the "horse" would barely get his (the "human" body would be kinda in the way) so it would require less or even no armor depending on armor type.''
The rules for lances apply to UA centaurs the same way they apply to everyone else. If they can find a suitable creature to serve as a mount, then they get all of the benefits associated with riding a mount; otherwise they don't.

Haven’t used this account in forever. Still a big fan of crawling claws.
