A while ago I posted a thread about the silliness of hand crossbows getting the light property, although it gives no mechanical benefit. It was so silly, I decided that I would start a series on the weird ways things interact in D&D.
Today, I am taking on the ultimate challenge. I have found a way for a 6th level character to cast eight 1st level and higher spells in a single turn.
Honestly, this may be laughable. But it works. Here's how:
First of all, you're going to need four levels of Sorcerer, and two levels of Fighter. The Sorcerer subclass will need to be Wild Magic.
Next, make sure that you have shield and a 1st level instantaneous action attack roll spell like chaos bolt. Use your sorcery points to get two extra 1st level spell slots. Use the Tides of Chaos advantage, position yourself next to an enemy, and get your lucky dice out.
As your action, you will use a 2nd level chromatic orb. If we don't roll for our Wild Magic Surge(You can only use the Wild Magic Surge feature once per turn), this will allow you to roll on the Wild Magic Surge Table for Tides of Chaos, and if you roll an 81 or 82, you can take another action immediately. With this action, we will use Tides of Chaos for advantage again and cast another 2nd level chromatic orb.
If you get lucky, you'll roll a 1 on your Wild Magic Surge on this spell, and not the previous one, and activate 81-82 again for another action, which we will use to cast another 2nd level chromatic orb. This will, again, activate the Tides of Chaos, which you can use to take another action(provided you roll 81-82 on the WMST) and use the advantage for Tides of Chaos with a 1st level chromatic orb.
Then, we'll use action surge from our fighter levels to cast another 1st level chromatic orb, activating Tides of Chaos, which we will use to roll on the WMST and hopefully get 81-82 and get another action. With that action, we can cast a 1st level chromatic orb with advantage because of Tides of Chaos. Finally, move away from the enemy you're next to. If they use an opportunity attack on you and hit, you can use your shield which will activate our final surge on the WMST, and dice-willing, get an 81-82, to cast our final 1st level chromatic orb.
Look, the chances of this being able to happen are astronomically low. And the chances that your DM will put up with it are even lower. But it's possible.
Somethings people may ask: Q: Why are you rolling on the WMST so much? A: Wild Magic Surge is the feature that allows to roll for a 1 to get a surge. But Tides of Chaos is not once per turn, and does not have the same rules as Wild Magic Surge. Q: I thought you could only cast one non-cantrip spell per turn? A: That rule only pertains to cases where one of the spells is a bonus action. If we have multiple actions, then we can cast spells without issue. Link to spellcasting rules. Q: Why did you use Chromatic Orb? A: Because it's a simple spell that doesn't have any craziness attached to it like chaos bolt does.
If someone has a newer version of the rules that are different from mine, please tell me down in the comments, and tell me your reactions of this crazy theory!

It doesn't allow you to roll, it allows the DM to ask you to roll. Likewise, it's up to the DM whether you roll on the table after using Tides of Chaos and get your use of it back.
This doesn't just require your DM to put up with your lucky rolls, this requires your DM to ask for a lucky roll (you never roll for WMS chance without the DM asking).
And your chance of getting that effect on any particular spell casting is .1% or 1 in 1000. The odds of you getting it 5 times in a row are 1 in 1,000,000,000,000,000.
As long as we are being ridiculous, why not just cast as many spells as we have slots for using only WMS and not bother with action surge? Tides of chaos, leveled attack spell, roll 1 on d20, roll 81-82 on d100, tides of chaos recharges, take extra action, repeat until out of slots.

I do know this, and that's why I put that the odds of your Dm allowing this are really low.

If you use Tides of Chaos to get advantage on an attack, then you have already cast the spell and it cannot be used to get a Wild Magic Surge.

Wild magic surges are decided after the spell is cast, tides of chaos is used when the attack roll is made.
Aren't you only allowed to expend one spell slot per turn anyway?... I'm not sure how wild magic works, but I thought casting a spell and then using action surge for another (non cantrip) spell was illegal.

You are thinking of bonus action spells. As long as you are using full actions (via action surge, wild magic, or some other means) (or reactions if you are somehow getting multiples of those), you can cast as many leveled spells as you have spell slots for.

Okay, this is my take on it. If you cast the spell, having already activated the advantage of TOC, then the Surge happens before you can make the attack roll, therefore you cannot gain advantage on it and activate a Surge from the extra action spell. I'm basically thinking that you can either activate a Surge on a spell, or get advantage on it. I'll go through the steps if you want me to explain it more clearly.
