Looking for a canon college, university or academy to use as a background for my new sorcerer.
He's a professor of magic on sabbatical to do some adventuring. I looked thru the Forgotten Realms wiki but couldn't find anything that fit.
Do you know about some kind of school that has been published somewhere?
Any student who can send me a link to a school from the Forgotten Realms gets a 'A' for the semester!

Admin on MeWe's Conservative D&D Players group, but I believe that no matter what our differences are, our love of D&D is something that should bring us together. So, if you don't start something I won't either. Fair enough?
Method Actor, Storyteller, Tactician type who plays peacemaker at the table. This fall will be my 39th year playing D&D, Gamma World, Car Wars, Talisman, Serenity and Traveller.
Most large cities (Neverwinter, Waterdeep, Baldur's Gate) have an academy of magic or two. Though some are a more secretive and practice dark magic. Usually these are run by liches or nothics. Though names for these academies are unable to be found. So usually arcane academies are invented by DM's.

Devious serpent folk devoid of compassion, yuan-ti manipulate other creatures by arousing their doubts, evoking their fears, and elevating and crushing their hopes. From remote temples in jungles, swamps, and deserts, the yuan-ti plot to supplant and dominate all other races and to make themselves gods.

Its not thread necromancy because thread necromancy is posting on an old thread without adding information. Dragonhelm is adding information to the thread, so he's not committing thread necromancy.

Yes but it is not helpful to the thread creator.
But it was very helpful to me...
And very helpful to me years later. I had a list at one point saved but who knows what I did with it.... Bummer. Thank you everyone.
would love to find something in Amn. One of my players needs help with his character's backstory.
The closest Bardic College to Amn is the House of Canaith from Tethyr, located near Zazesspur.
In Amn there's the Arbalest's House located in Athkatla, which is a temple of Milil, Lord of All Songs. It could potentially house a Bardic College related to Milil as many bards worship him.
You can also design one yourself in any of the big cities of Amn.
"...or you can find the secret tunnel that leads to the Vault of Dickish DM which is filled with 10,000,000 copper coins and a 5,000 pound solid gold statue of a middle finger that is too big to fit through the door."

Waterdeep's arcane schools (e.g., Blackstaff Tower) and Silverymoon's Conclave university are probably most in line with what you're looking for.

Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in awhile.
Looks like I'm a Conclave Man!
Thanks Rat'

You can also consider Candlekeep. I mean Candlekeep is like the knowledge centre of Faerun.
There's also the Arcane Brotherhood's Host Tower.
I know this is about three years too late, but the College of the Eclipse would be a great place for a psionic soul sorcerer.

Here are some options, sure you have to do your own digging but at least there's a bunch conveniently located to go from.
Is there any lore on non-magic schools I'm trying to create a character with a fare bit of fluff devoted to him being a Archaeologist.
There's the Bardic College of New Olamn in Waterdeep

One could be a wandering scholar of Herald's Holdfast as well.
