I spend my youth among the treetops of my homeland, leaping from branch to branch and listening to the stories of my clan elders. Then one day I caught the wanderlust and set out across the world to collect the stories of other lands and using the skills I learned back in my jungle to make my way. Eventually I met a group of fellow travelers, and now trade my skills for their stories to one day take back to Maztica.

Lug was the chief armorer of the Bugbears until he sought to leave, and had his arms removed for his troubles. He stumbled into a village where he was taken care of, and built a new set of arms to work on his inventions with. Then the empire came along and burnt his village for traitors, and he took up his old surname with a vengeance - Hammerhand.

Human. Male. Possibly. Don't be a divider. My characters' backgrounds are written like instruction manuals rather than stories. My opinion and preferences don't mean you're wrong. I am 99.7603% convinced that the digital dice are messing with me. I roll high when nobody's looking and low when anyone else can see.🎲 “It's a bit early to be thinking about an epitaph. No?” will be my epitaph.
When I was young, my sister disappeared and I was the only one that witnessed her being captured in the column of otherwordly light. Determined to figure out what happened, I trained hard and worked against a corrupt government because I know the truth is out there. Now I know that aliens and every major government are working together to regularly experiment on humanoids and I have made it my mission to uncover the truth and fight against the system.
Your entire city is a copy of another somewhere else in the world, either created by accident, created for a nefarious purpose, or created as a cruel joke—no explanation was provided except the knowledge of what you and your fellow citizens truly are. The citizens learn they were framed for a terrible crime in a far-off region, and an invasion is on the way in retaliation. You set off to find help for discovering the real culprits and prove your city's innocence.
(The thing is figuring out what crime could be blamed on a city in another region... Likely magical in nature with some evidence pointing to the city. The obvious culprit is the original city that was copied, but avoid the obvious or make it look like the original city is also innocent except they're not, or worse, the player's own city is actually guilty... All kinds of weirdness will ensue... Might be better if the whole party is from the same copied city.)

"Born too curious for my own good, I spent most my childhood finding trinkets to enjoy and take apart. But when I come across a magic item too powerful for a child like me, and all I know is destroyed, killed, or otherwise taken from me, I regret my curiosity for the rest of my life. Even still I distrust anything new or that which I don't understand."
Hope you guys think it's good, and thanks for reading.
I was the biggest and the strongest of my brood clutch. When I got older I decided to dedicate my life to one of the factions of the land to travel Faerûn doing right by its citizenry. I trained with heavy armor and weaponry and now plan to take my oath to protect the land and its people from harm.
I was imprisoned for my crimes in a magic bag for three thousand years. Finally, an adventurer has stumbled across the ruins where my prison lay and freed me. I now explore the world, much transformed since my imprisonment. I now dedicate myself to peace, healing, and learning all I can about this 'new' world, but secretly hope to find a way back to my own time.
Meant for a Cleric build.
Here are some questions for you guys to answer in case you decide to use this backstory:
What crime did he commit? Who imprisoned him? What where the ruins originally?
I was imprisoned in this wretched lamp for a hundred years because of my past crimes. Fortunately, some foolish adventurer mistook me for a genie and freed me in the hopes that I would be his slave. He has been put in his place... the afterlife... and now that I am free I look forward to hunting down all those who wronged me in my past, and if they are no longer alive then their descendants will do.
(Warlock of the Genie, probably Genasi, evil aligned.)
He died in the Gloomleaf Forest with his daughter and his wife in his heart.
After darkness, on a stone slab, his consciousness returned to a raspy voice completing a forbidden ritual that brought him back.
And terror gripped his heart when his eyes met the tear-streaked face of an old deformed woman as he realized the truth—his own daughter, once a mere child of five, now an old woman, resurrecting him with dark and chilling intent.
I used to earn my living on the high seas, but after so many doldrums, pirate attacks, and sea monsters, it got a little old. Now I think I’ll try life as a landlubber and make my way upon the open roads. Now, I’m sure there’ll be no shortage of land monsters and bandits, but at least they’ll be different… I’d better sign on with a hardy crew.
I was formed from the darkness. I was a mistake, so now the darkness stalks me, hunts me, tries to return my matter to it. If someone were ever to extinguish the plethora of lights I carry on me at all times... I don't know what would happen.

Well now, when I was a young elfling I would gaze in awe at the tall, graceful spires of the inner city where the rulers and mages and well-to-do lived and worked, and dreamed of one day counting myself among their number. Since I had no talent for politics and no way of becoming well-to-do, I decided to study magic as a means to my sought after end. Now I need to travel about having the kinds of experiences one aught to have in order to become a powerful mage, and hopefully a wealthy one too so I can one day purchase a tower off of one of the spires and finally take my place among the rich and powerful of my city.
I was once a happy bar stool, or at least as happy as a bar stool can get. Then some mage got in a bar fight and one of his spells slipped up and turned me into a human. Now I have to figure out what to do with myself and I have found that I have a talent for smashing people over the head with blunt objects.

I was raised in the riki (aarakocra in my hb) village of soaric until I decided to become a travelling merchant of enchanted items. A stupid mistake caused me to lose my identity and dignity, so I forged a new one. The problem is, I'm still nobody to the tribe...
