and wish is meant to be messed with if you don't just replicate a spell

This Mug immediately shared with me a transcendental tale of an Infinite Mug that anchors the Universe and keeps it from folding in on itself. I filed this report under "illogical nonsense" and asked why its sign is in Times New Roman font, when it is basic knowledge that Arial Black is a far superior font. I wondered: How did this mug even get past the assembly line with its theistic beliefs and poor font choices?

A surprising amount of people in this thread just want to make the PC completely waste their wish, or even instant-kill them for daring to cast it. What’s the point of taking wish then, if nothing interesting you want to do works?
Being able to replicate any other spell up to level 8, without being dependent on prior preparation, and ignoring casting time and material components, is plenty powerful. However, the point of Wish has always been to kill the PCs in new and hilarious ways, the idea that there were effects where the DM wouldn't hose you didn't really appear until 3e.

This is what I ment. But said better

Yeah, actually back in the day the DMG actively instructed DMs to twist wishes in the most sadictively inventive ways possible. Like, if they say “I wish…
“for a mountain of gold,” their next sentence would be something like “Hey why’d it get so… *looks up* …OHLY SHIII—“ *KASLAAAMMM* as the mountain of gold landed on them.
”for a king’s riches,” it wouldn’t be long until the King’s men came to get it back… (“the wealth of nations” was worse. To what degree being dependent on how many nations.)
”to never need money again….” “Granted!” booms the genie’s voice, “After 2cp for a ferry ride, you will never need money again….”
“to be the richest man alive,” “Granted…” hisses the insssidiousss voice, “everything you touch shall turn to gold….”
And that 👆 was when we just asked for gold. My buddy (the DM) was waayyy more creative when we asked for something real, like power.
“to be the [king/queen/ruler/whatever] of [insert kingdom/monarchy/nation/whatever].” “Done.” says the voice in the back of your mind, the one that sounds like you but ‘wrong.’
The air is suddenly sucked or blown out of your chest (you’re not sure), and your vision starts to fade, and blur, and you hear this pressure build up within your ears. The pressure mounts until it becomes painful, your vision is spinning, then tinges red before finally going black. *KRAA—KA—BAAANNG!!* The pressure in your head suddenly bursts with enough force to send you reeling.
Your vision clears a bit to see you are in the palace court where the [whoever of wherever] receives petitioners and guests, you recognize it well despite the changes. The decorations are all different, and of a style long out of fashion in [wherever], ever since the former dynasty’s last sitting ruler [Whatever] Pall’engar IV was deposed…. And the smell… fire! Yes, fire and meat cooking, a familiar coppery smell of fresh blood, and the unmistakable stench of burning shit. All of that accompanied by the din of battle close at hand.
As your senses clear you realize that you are dressed in the finest of royal silks and men-at-arms bearing the old livery are falling to the man to protect you from those coming for your head. You have been made into [Whatever] Pall’engar IV, and this night they depose you. You remember from history that Pall’engar IV was tortured to death, disemboweling being the end. If you recall… it’ll take you four days to die….
Wishes are a dangerous thing, and not to be taken lightly. The worst part about them, the absolute most unmistakably worst part… is when they come true….
I feel like the most interesting way to take this wish, as a DM, would be to give them the body of a golden dragon. But to also give the golden dragon their body.
They wake up on a mountain of gold, as an ancient gold dragon. huzzah - the wish worked! but where are they?
Meanwhile, their party suddenly find an enraged golden dragon in the body of their friend, who vows to get his body back. They become a main BBEG, with the final battle probably involving the Golden Dragon player swooping in thinking they're all-powerful, before suddenly finding themselves in their own body, seeing the now grinning golden dragon bearing down on them, bodies swapped back to normal.
I'd also look into the sorts of things which can make the wish work but have unexpected (but should have been expected) consequences. Gold dragons eat gold, and ancient ones will have had a lifetime of lower appetites to amass the amount of gold they need to sustain themselves. The party is going to need a lot of loot to keep a gold dragon alive! They might start taking exception when most of their money is going as rations for a gold dragon!
Nobody is going to be giving out Ancient dragon permission, especially not with extra class levels stacked on top immediately (though gaining levels when the rest of the party does makes sense). A level 0 Fighter Young Gold Dragon seems balanced enough for approximately level 17/18 characters.
I wish I were an Ancient Gold Dragon with all my current capabilities as a Lvl XX this-class.
This uses specific game terms, and really could be considered meta-gaming. Does your character know what a level is? It is debatable that they would know their formal class name.
I really do think that if the DM likes your idea, you'll get your Wish, and might not even have to cast the spell. Doing a quest of some kind could be a much more fun and interesting way to get what you desire. Maybe you will need to persuade a Gold Dragon to help you somehow. I suggest that if you want the DM to grant your Wish, you should also include the word "Please" in there.

I feel a wizard or an artificer would have levels but not so much for other classe

:-) A Wizard may well have gone to school, and they would have gone to classes depending on their level of education, but ponder this; would the Wizard say "17th Level" or "Doctorate In Wizardry"?
For an Artificer, a "Level" is probably one of their tools, the thing they use to make sure a table-top is flat or a painting hanging on the wall is not crooked.
I'd let you do it with conditions. First, you'd continue on as you are as a player. Next your have the ability to turn into a gold dragon but limit it to a certain amount of times per long rest or week. Lastly I'd make you a balanced out dragon sheet to use while in dragon form so it doesn't become all powerful over the other players.
Maybe before you talk to your dm have stuff like that to bring up. Good luck.

Talk to the DM and see if this will work in the campaign.
