Teleport, invisibility and illusions would counter it
LOL that's hilarious! You really have no understanding of anything do you? A bat can see through invisibility and illusions with no problem, are you seriously arguing that modern sensor systems wouldn't be able to see through them? Invisibility and illusions exclusively act in the visible spectrum of EMR, it would have 0 effect on radar, sonor, thermal imaging, or a dozen other sensor types.
Most of their teleports are incredibly limited in range and usage - 5 miles is nothing (many sensor systems cover 300+miles), 1/day is nothing there are tens of thousands of people dedicating their entire careers to surveillance, come on! You gotta do better than this.
Please read the Teleport again, read me where the range is please, also named dragons with unique stat blocks won’t necessarily have it only 1/day, what’s stopping a dragon from casting teleport, then meteor swarm then teleport again to a random cave several miles deep?
Also no one will be able to use it if civilians has been starving like crazy from no food imports, rioting because humans fight among themselves as much as they do actual threats and large swaths of land being turned into inedible trash. Not to mention what’s stopping the dragon from just using project image to further scout areas and cause civilians panic, unless they all have heat signature eyes and have an advanced knowledge of dragons being warm blooded because they are all master survivors when under the pressure of fighting a elephant sized lizard.

Specifically greatwyrms and ancient dragons, the stat blocks for dragons are for generals, there’s no reason why a dragon that dabbled in other magic won’t have some different spells, like how Old Gnaw Bones has divination spells attuned to specifically drama.
You read Teleport again, there is a very high chance of not actually teleporting where you want to go (in our campaign we ended up in the wrong place 60% of the time). So no even with unlimited teleport (which no creatures ever have) they aren't going to be effective, they'll just randomly appear over a militarized location and get blasted to oblivion.
civilians has been starving like crazy from no food imports
LOL, the range of Dragon lair effects is absolutely tiny! Even the "regional effects" (which usually are little more than an inconvenience) affect only a 1-5 mile area, which is the size of 1 modern industrialized farm (~3500 acres). "Lair effects" are just within the dragon's actual lair which is maybe the size of a skyscraper? which has a floor area of only ~50 acres. Talk about ineffectual. And they all end automatically after a few days after the dragon is dead, so it will just paint a bullseye easily visible from space of where the dragon's lair is.
A Black Dragon's lair is going to be no more of a problem than the dozens of acid-filled mine pits that you can find all over the place. A problem easily solved with some oxydizing systems and a fence.
Honestly, I think yeah...even with Fizban & a few greatwyrms, Europe would probably wipe out the dragons. Draconic effects are hilariously small, and let's be real - they have the flying advantage, but a few thousand jets moving at what - Mach 3 or 4? They'd burn some to a crisp, but the other hundred or so that come at them while they're recharging Fire Breath? Finally, interesting question - an ancient dragon's flying speed is 120 ft, right? That means they take 44 seconds to fly a mile, for a grand total of 81.82 (.818181 infinitely) miles per hour (131.68 km/h for those who use them). Just imagine the speed advantage that even a Harrier jet, whose top speed is 731 mph (1176 km/h) would have on it. They could literally fly circles around the dragons (if we don't talk about their maneuverability). Additionally, what if someone decided to kamikaze themselves for the greater good? If you've read Mickey7 (Edward Ashton's sci-fi novel), you've probably heard of The Bullet. If you haven't, read it. Genuinely, a sharp metal jet moving towards a dragon - and then through the dragon - at Mach 4? (3069 mph). I think that's going to be pretty hard to survive, especially if the bombs can be set to detonate inside the dragon. Soooo...I'm not entirely sure how many dragons are in the ranks of the Faerunians (Faerunites? Faeruners?), but I'm pretty sure that Europe has more jets. (Finally, if we're talking real life here, Russia would get involved - they're not going to be recluses from the fight, especially in case the fight does manage to make it to them. That adds what, 4200 military aircraft (the Google AI Overview estimate) and 7000+ nuclear warheads?
Alright, now - if we're talking about ground combat, things get more interesting. Immediately, my brain goes to: "Why doesn't Europe just nuke them from the air, then?" It's true that people don't want to nuke innocent civilians, even for the greater good - humans have always had a natural instinct to help each other out. And, if dragons are smart, they're only going to heavily populated areas because of this. Bahamut's got an Intelligence of what, 29? And even if he's not there, what about the greatwyrms - they have an INT of 28, right? Maybe 27? They'll figure this out. So, let's rule out nuking. Then, how large are all of the European (discounting Russia here) armies put together? I'd estimate 20 million? (Honestly, that seems a little low to me. Can someone figure this out? I don't want to do all of that math.) They're going to overwhelm the dragons by far. Then again, Fire Breath would just wipe out a thousand at a time, and the Frightful Presence doesn't make this much better (disadvantage on saves against the Breath, right? Or is it just advantage on all of its attacks?) Sure - the thousand-ish soldiers per dragon might get in a few hits before being flambeed beyond the level of ashes. But then, why not repeat the same strategy? Get a drone right above the dragon (above the clouds, so they can't see it? Heck, the drone could be unmanned), point it downwards, and go through the dragon. If it's a flat-nosed drone (not a pointy one hehe - I may have taken that out of context), it'll still deliver a massive amount of bludgeoning damage - 30,000 ft of just falling...plus an explosion, most likely? Then you wonder - okay, but won't it fly away once it sees the drone? Let's assume the clouds are at 15,000 ft (4572 meters) - it's gonna be moving at over 2,000 meters a second by then (I would believe, if my physics are correct). The dragon's got 2 seconds to react, look up, realize a drone's traveling at it, and run for its life? I don't think so...
Ok, so now you say that I'm crazy and that we shouldn't do that - the impact would create a crater, and probably still kill a bunch of civilians. So, what would you do, Wes? "Well, thank you for giving me the chance to speak today. I'm not going to give you many words (lol I'm sorry already) today, but I hope they have an impact." If they're allying against Europe and viciously want to take over Europe so that they can use the land, why have use for people, except as a small food source? It's merely annoying to fight humans, but, although (most likely - I wouldn't know) they're delicious, too many of them could pose a problem - what if they managed to find some nuclear warheads? Or if they all banded together to kill you while you slept? Your cave-lair could just collapse on top of you...
And humans could use this to their advantage. They only want the best-tasting humans for their palate, right? So they're fine with killing off most (if not all of, if they get angry) of Europe? What if you lure them out to sea? First of all, you could just hide, fleeing away and giving them what they want. We probably have enough space in places like Canada to accommodate all of the Europeans. But humans don't want that to happen - and they won't be defeated like that. What if you left, then nuked Europe when no one was there? You could wait out the billion-or-so years it takes to render it habitable again (probably, if we don't kill each other first). But, to be honest, they probably would chase us, right? Would they really pass up on such a fine meal? The entire continent of Europe...with its entire population on a massive fleet of boats (planes are gonna get destroyed as soon as the dragons realize what they can do). It's too fancy to pass up, right? (Imagine...would you really pass up a tub of ice cream in favor of just a scoop?)
So we've got the entire population of Europe on a fleet of boats...sitting ducks, right? If you lure them just right, while they're preoccupied with the heavy fire coming from the few destroyers there, other military forces are gonna catch them unawares. It's the old distraction ploy - distract them with free food, and murder them with the actual threat.
(I'm done now - that's enough for me. If you have any questions, I'll work them out...sometime in the future. Now, last thing - if dragons attacked the US, we would nuke them - and ourselves - into next week.)

Haha! I got you to click here! I'm an Evoker who loves D&D, roleplaying, and Magic. My characters might "accidentally" kill yours. Consider this an advance warning. If a vex randomly spawns in and starts attacking you, it's probably me. Also, the Minecraft devs really need to add Illusioners to bedrock.
Great, now that you have clicked the spoiler, you know all about me! See you in the PbP thread. :)
Would Legendary Resistance help you with a nuke that has an impact crater of several miles? And that must deal (at minimum, if the Red Dragon's Fire Breath is 26d6) at least 1000d6 fire damage - avg 3500 damage. It releases a massive amount of energy.

First of all, you could just hide, fleeing away and giving them what they want.
Giving them what they want, IMO, would actually be pretty hard. Dragons crave wealth, and especially treasure. But in modern society we don't use "treasure" for very much anymore. We don't have gold coins, we rarely wear real gems/jewels. Nations usually have a store of gold somewhere to stabilize their currency value, but that's generally down in a secure vault or stored at international organizations. A dragon can't exactly walk up to the person on the street, kill them and steal their crypto account. A dragon won't even understand what crypto is or why people care about it. How's a dragon supposed to accumulate a horde when currency is mostly digital and consumer goods are mostly cheap junk?
If you don’t know where I am, I’m either sleeping or roleplaying. If I’m doing neither of those things, except the worst. (Do not actually expect the worst) If you need to talk then PM me. Head Acolyte of The Tree Cult.

Nukes would likely be a combination of thunder, necrotic/radiant AND fire damage, seeing that lethal radiation and your organs getting liquified is actually the more pressing issue than the fireball.
But we’re not really sure how desperate Europe would be in that scenario, as you said, an impact crater of several miles, so unless they nuke a mountain range, people that live anywhere near would have some uh, bodily defects to deal with.
And with legendary resistance, well most causes it might be mute, but remember that it could be an abstraction of the Dragon equivalent of hiding in a fridge, so maybe they get to a safe zone just in time or something, would probably get organs liquified through. Theres one type of dragon that could consistently survive a nuke, Dracoliches, they could just place their soul gems in a nice little village with not a lot of people and return after a few days, they would also be immune to cancer so thats a plus, hard to destroy them unless you want to start bashing every small object wit’s a hammer.

Well, the dragon resurrects right next to the gem, so the military would be able to destroy it after just one use.
Well, the dragon resurrects right next to the gem, so the military would be able to destroy it after just one use.
The gem regenerates back to 50 hp every 6 seconds and has an AC of 20, so unlikely for them to be able to break it (no shooting it with a gun doesn’t work, they still need it to hit and beat the AC). Not to mention I don’t think they would be able to correlate a random jewellery with the dragon's soul, there’s just as much of a chance of it being because the dragon teleporting there, they could potentially create multiple false gems and place them in the same places, if they don’t go for concentrated urban areas, a random cave a mile deep could suffice, just use a raw Crystal as a soul gem and place it in a few feet of dirt and rubble.
Meaning that most explosives (including bunker busters) would be unable to reach it, entering would be treacherous, finding the soul gem (if they even know what that is) would require tons of digging and exploration to identify a cheap looking crystal before actually destroying it when it’s close to punching through a tank that regenerates.

I think a stick of dynamite would suffice in destroying the gem (even using the normal rules for dynamite, you could rig 7 sticks of it to explode in one turn and destroy the gem). Also, if the same dragon always appears in the same location on the military's ground penetrating radar after it dies, I think they would get a little suspicious.

You would actually need 10 dynamites attached to each other to do it in, they would have to overestimate or else waste their entire time to destroy the gem, destroying the gem's the easy part, getting to it is a literal suicide mission. If the dragon's scared that humans may get close, they would create zombies, ghouls and wights to guard the insides of the cavern, maybe even create some magical traps and cave ins and… we just made a literal dungeon with a dragon in it, huh, guess they really are the best way to hide stuff.
Establishing a kill zone above the cave would be the best idea, shredding it before it gets to a populated area would be their only option that isn’t diving into the vilest cave to ever exist, although WHEN the dragon exits would be a tense as hell scenario, which may be completely ignored by the dragon slamming their head into the stone until they dig up another area.

"Vilest cave to ever exist" =/= the few dozen wights/weaker creatures a dracolich can create (within reasonable time) that aren't even under its control. Those monsters could easily be defeated using guns and grenades. They would obviously go in before the dragon has been revived, or while it's far away, and what are you going on about with a dragon digging a tunnel via headbutting a cave ceiling???

Would Legendary Resistance help you with a nuke that has an impact crater of several miles? And that must deal (at minimum, if the Red Dragon's Fire Breath is 26d6) at least 1000d6 fire damage - avg 3500 damage. It releases a massive amount of energy.

If we are using only 2024, dragons lose. But if Ancient Time Dragons exist, they win.
Sig but long ^w^

Henlo, I am a pan, NB, chaotic ADHD mess of a furry.
I am also a eepy eeper, who likes WoF, WC, and fire.
Faerun! I have how not to get eaten by owlbears. That’s the setting!
Lightning flashes, it creates ash. The ash forms a human.
Where is there a cave that is a mile deep, and big though to fit an Elephant, and isn't a tourist attraction?
All caving documentaries I've seen of pristine non-tourist attraction caves involve people barely being able to squeeze through into the cave,
