I was actually amazed at the implied world that came out of the Session 0 for CoS, based on what was chosen from what I'd pared down. The party ended up coming from a vaguely Eastern world where the blood of the Celestial Courts flowed in the veins of certain ruling families, a strong tradition of monastic study, and bordering steppes with an undead and goblin problem but no orcs. We darn near didn't play CoS and just went with exploring the setting.
Sounds like a very interesting start, I hope it continues working well. As for Unearthed Arcana I agree there are cool ideas, just don't let them get in the way of a good time.

"I have found the answer to the meaning of life. You ask me what the answer is? You already know what the answer to life is. You fear it more than the strike of a viper, the ravages of disease, the ire of a lover. The answer is always death. But death is a gentle mistress with a sweet embrace, and you owe her a debt of restitution. Life is not a gift, it is a loan."
One of my players is playing the Monster Hunter fighter from UA. Fitting very well within Ravenloft, and I first started them-off with the first AL adventure of season 4, and he successfully used a hunting trap on a dire wolf.
Hey folks, sorry im pretty late to the thread, just subscribed and have been having a play.
It's certainly got its pros here, but huge con for me is not having the unearthed arcana anywhere, can't even purchase it.
And whilst their is some homebrew support it looks like this is only items and spells from what i can see? not race and class etc
Anybody able to advise further? i have a war wizard i was hoping to add in.
My group often uses unearthed arcana spells, classes and things. seeing its all released on WotC i would of thought it would be integrated by now.
UA is coming, probably after Xanathar's Guide to Everything comes out. Homebrew races, subclasses, and feats are also coming. Homebrew backgrounds are coming very soon.
I will say that the Mystic UA class is going to become a hot item pretty soon. It has been announced that it will be legal for DDAL play for the next UA version.

Hadn't heard that. I have no interest in participating in DDAL, but that does add a certain "stamp of legitimacy" to the class. I guess the answer to "What does psionics look like in 5E?" has been given.
Do you have a link to that announcement? I believe you, but it's something I'd like to have reference to for other conversations.
I didn't remember that the Artificer was part of it. That makes me sad, since I think that version really needed to be scrapped and started from scratch. Guess I'll have to roll my own. Hopefully DDB will eventually add the ability to add home brew base classes.

Absolutely. It's the 8th paragraph regarding the DDAL playability. Artificer is also part of that plan.
