Hello, adventurers! I come here to launch another poll to read more the opinion of the staff.
Do you think you missed the dim light?
I have the impression that I could vary a little more if I still had this tool for the races in the game. So, what is your opinion on the subject? Would you find it essential or a very cool addition?
I know what you probably mean (i.e. treat dim light like normal light for a distance, without the "treat darkness like dim" aspect of Darkvision), but if you're going to ask people their opinion on a piece of game design, best to make sure everybody's talking about the same piece of game design.
My opinion is that I love the idea of darkness mattering. Of players having to keep track of light sources, of enemies being able to ambush from the cover of darkness - of PCs treating darkness like the primordial fear it's been for all of humanity's history. But without a VTT to track what everyone can see via software, most DMs consider it too much of a hassle to balance differing types and ranges of sight. Having to describe the same scene half a dozen different ways to account for what individual players can see, especially when most every player is going to hear the description for the most able-sighted player and just run off of that anyways, is time the DM doesn't want to waste. It's why so few players give a ratfink about light in the first place, they know the DM will be lax about it so why care themselves?
Of course, the "dim vision" I’m quoting, is the same as in previous editions, like the 3rd edition. I like to promote these discussions to really know each other’s vision about old mechanics for current mechanics. I agree that for the narrative of the masters it is quite difficult to describe about vision in the dark and the other ways of seeing the characters, however, I particularly liked how it worked and would find it cool if it had the 5th edition or the One D&D, would be a way of incrimentary something more than fixes in the game itself and some class mechanics. But I agree that the life of the master becomes more difficult to describe races with normal vision, vision in the dark and dim vision.
Define "Dim Vision" for people who have never played anything but 5e and have no idea how the 3e/3.5e/4e/AD&D/PF2e/CoC/MCDM/WoW/FFXIV/CoD version of the ability works. Please define the mechanic you wish to discuss.
I’m unfamiliar with “dim vision,” but there used to be something called “low-light vision.”
Creatures with low-light vision had eyes that were far more sensitive to light than normal. As such, they were able to see twice as far in dim light than creatures with ordinary vision could. Unlike those using darkvision in darkness, those with low-light vision could distinguish between colors, instead of seeing shades of grey. In areas with an exceptionally low amount of light, those with low-light vision could still make out words or symbols.
Back then darkvision didn’t workin dim light at all if I recall.
As the friend explained below, it was about this same mechanics that I am talking about, about seeing in the dim light, with the moon and so on. Sorry if the question was not so clear, because I was really used to calling it "dim Vision". I hope you can give us your opinion :)
I wish they had Low-Light Vision as separate from Darkvision just for variety’s sake if nothing else. Heck, I wish they brought back Infravision and Ultravision for that matter.

Good games and good rolls!
Define "Dim Vision".
