I'm currently a level 5 battle master fighter, which means next level I get an ASI/feat. I'm planning on multiclassing into rogue at level 7 until I get my archetype (leaning towards swashbuckler rn) at level 9 and then taking my remaining levels in fighter. I took a feat at third level- martial adept- instead of the ASI, so my current stats are the ones I rolled initially.
STR- 18 DEX- 15 CON- 14 INT- 14 WIS- 12 CHA- 13
My question is should I take the ASI or feat? If so, which one?
The obvious ASI to take would be STR to 20, but considering that I'm multiclassing into rogue and two of my party members are at a 20 and 19 strength respectively, maybe DEX would be a better option.
I've been considering a few feats too, but there's a lot of good ones and it's hard to narrow them down. Alert, Blade Mastery, Defensive Duelist, Lucky, Magic Initiate, Prodigy, Sentinel, and Tough all seem like strong contenders that could be useful long term, though maybe not enough to hold off an ASI for another five levels.
Other possibly relevant info:
I currently use a versatile longsword, but I'll switch to a rapier for the sneak attack at 7th level
I took the dueling fighting style for the damage bonus
The other party members are a barbarian, death cleric, and monk, possibly with a warlock joining us in the future
I would actually take Resilient:CHA, especially if you are going to go swashbuckler. There are a lot of bad save or sucks that target it, and you have swashbuckler abilities, like Rakish Audacity and Panache that use Charisma.
And maybe see if your DM will let you change your STR and DEX scores.
