Would anyone link to info on this subject. I am buying into Beyond quickly, but am concerned I may regret purchases later if I try to play on the other sites. It does not look like Beyond is in a hurry to do Virtual Tabletop. If I want to use characters or adventures bought here on other sites, is it a no go absent some type of complicated browser extension.
Is DDB any way connected/affiliated/associated/directly compatible with Roll20/Fantasy grounds/Insert VTT here? - No, there are no official means to export characters, source books, or purchases over, nor are there any other ways to officially integrate DDB with those
Is DDB going to make their own VTT? - At some point in the future there may be a VTT-like product released by DDB, it's on their long term road map. There's no suggestion that it will, or will not, be anything like what's currently on the market.
Can you use DDB with my VTT of choice without any extra tools? - Yes, with a but. It's just like using your books with a VTT. You have to set everything up yourself, tokens, maps etc.
Are there tools that can help? - Yes! Check out the amazing extension for chrome and firefox called Beyond 20. It supports roll20 and now Foundry
I knew there was no association between the companies. I was curious if I bought Adventure X here, and wanted to use another VTT, do those VTTs all sell their own versions of each Adventure. It sounds like I just have to create tokens and maps but ALAS I do see several options to get free help floating around the interwebs.
ok so if you wanted to play an adventure - buy here, learn, integrate with characters -- go to Roll20 and use custom maps/tokens etc and boom - works ?
When I ran Dragon Heist, I bought the module in both D&D Beyond and Roll20. Having finished running it now, the only thing I used from the Roll20 purchase was the maps, tokens, and some of the handouts. I always had the D&D Beyond pages open. I very easily could have saved $50 and uploaded the maps myself. Creating the tokens would have been more time consuming, but with the Beyond20 extension that Davedamon mentioned, you don't need to copy the stats over. It is a HUGE help. I also found that the Roll20 module was missing almost half of the pictures/handouts that I needed to give my players, and so had to do I bunch of extra work anyway.
TLDR: buy it in D&D Beyond, add the maps and tokens yourself, use Beyond20 so you don't have to copy stats over.
For what it's worth, my wife has bought Curse of Strahd to run on Roll20, and it's pretty good. But everything is built into their "Handouts and Characters" format, which is a bit weird. For example, there is no full-text search available. Some of the aspects are really nice, like having all the tokens and maps, etc, set up for you. I've bought Princes of the Apocalypse here on D&D Beyond, and I prefer the D&D Beyond format to Roll20 overall. I don't think a person will be terribly unhappy either way, though. As it is now, I play an Out of the Abyss campaign on Roll20, and I still just tab over to D&D Beyond for the monsters. It isn't really any more cumbersome than looking at the monsters in Roll20, and the Roll20 page itself can get pretty busy.
In sum: You're almost certainly fine either way, unless you have some very specific desires, in which case you should research whether or not they'd be satisfied by a given platform. I do prefer D&D Beyond for content, but I have subscriptions to both services.
My play group uses DDB for character sheets, rules, and adventures (when not homebrewing) and uses roll20 for just the tabletop. We export all out maps and handouts from DDB to roll20 (as images) and use fee tokens or find some from internet.
I first saw info about DnDBeyond on a Nerdarchy YouTube video, I was looking at Roll20 & Fantasy Ground at the time.
I bought Fantasy Ground a long while back for its Rolemaster package. In the logn run I grew to hate its UI, so I stopped using it and its currently sitting, gathering virtual dust, in my Steam account.
I started looking at Roll20 because of its VTT features. I was just just gettign ready to purchase Roll20 Source books when one of the owners made his infamous comments concernign single white male players and then came the same individuals Reddit fiasco. I immediately cancelled my Roll20 subscription and have never looked back. Don't get me wrong, Roll20 has great features, and I hope DnDBeyond gets some, or all, of them eventually, but I will never touch Roll20 again with anything short of a nuke. :)
Despite DnDBeyond lack of features, at this time, I am more that happy with it so far. 90+% of the features I want are either in or on their road map. I own the Legendary Bundle. The only things I don't own are the bulk of Ravnica, and the 2 latest items.
I use HeroLab Classic and DnDBeyond for all my campaigns (where I have Internet).

Can you direct me to the alleged comments? I'm familiar with the reddit issue, which admittedly was stupid and unprofessional. But I don't know what the person supposedly said, aside from Roll20 apparently choosing to not sponsor a YouTube show because it consisted of five white males. I'm not looking to ignite anything here, but people keep making accusations and saying they'll never go near Roll20 again, and I just don't know what they're talking about.
Check out Above VTT and use the Google Chrome Extension. I really like Fantasy Grounds but because I already own so much on DNDBeyond and love it I mostly use Above VTT.
I hope this helps someone.

You are the man thank you !
D&D Beyond is the only place that has all of the D&D books for sale. I believe some adventures aren't available on roll20 for example.

Thanks Houligan.
I notice they are chrome extsensions
I have found Beyond doesnt work for me on Int Explorer, so I haven been using Firefox.. do you guys and gals prefer Chrome ?
Beyond20 should have a Firefox version as well.
I use Chrome because like Internet Explorer in the early 00's, that is what all websites work with, not necessarily because I want to.
