I don't think I've ever heard anyone talk about this before. Let's say you could make a level 1 character with every single feat from any one book. Prerequisites be damned. What would be the most busted book to draw from, and what kind of character would you make? (And at what level would it really take off and get to its full potential?)
I remember that whole "whacking people with a heavy crossbow to use both Crossbow Expert and Great Weapon Master" silliness. You'd usually never take both feats on the same character, but there's a weird combo there I guess.
Having both Sentinel and Magic Initiate: Druid could give you a neat Shillelagh but I'm sure there's way more powerful stuff than that.
A while ago I worked out if you could manage to get all the feats in the PHB you would have the following ASI:
+2 points you could add to Strength +4 points you could add to either Strength or Dexterity +1 point you could add to either Strength or Constitution +1 point you could add to Constitution +2 points you could add to Intelligence +1 point you could add to either Intelligence or Wisdom +1 point you could add to Charisma +1 point you could add to any ability score
So stack on all the other abilities and fringe benefits you get from just the PHB and that would likely be my go to book, especially as you could technically get all the versions of elemental adept.
Lol, I hadn't even considered the half feats. PHB gets a boost just from having more of them... Does the thought experiment get more interesting if we ignore the PHB? The racial feats aren't very great, for the most part, but there's a couple standouts. The tiefling one that gives you two resistances would be pretty great. But there's no particular wombo combos I'm seeing.

Xanathar's feats vary wildly in quality from the excellent like Elven Accuracy and Infernal Constitution to the practically useless like Orcish Fury and Dragon Hide.

Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
If you ignore the PHB, the only real option left would probably be Tasha’s Cauldron. Either that or maybe Dragonlance, but even still….
Agreed with this. Loading up on things like Telekinetic and Fey Touched and Skill Expert and Crusher would be a big boon to your ability scores, on top of being natively strong.

My first thought would be to go with strixhaven to get a big pack of spells from all those initiate feats.
Or xanathar’s to get all those racial feats, many of which are half feats, so your ability scores would go through the roof.
As far as what character, almost anything could benefit from those.

Does Unearthed Arcana count as a single book if we lump them all together? If so thats approx 70 feats in total.
