Your not worthless, your heart can sell for millions on the dark web.
You could do a deck of cards almost like a collection of spell scrolls that you "manufacture" as an artificer, each one imprinted at creation with the spell it's supposed to conjure and you draw a card when you cast the spell, presenting it and the image on the card comes to life and manifests as the spell effect. Another way would be someone like Gambit from the X-Men and you magically charge the card and throw it to cast, the spell attack being whether you hit your target and the spell works or miss and it doesn't.
At 4th level there's the new Cartomancer feat from Book of Many Things that allows you to use a deck of cards as a spell focus and allows you to store a spell for later use but unfortunately that book doesn't seem to let you buy the feat separate from the full book. You could still use the basic flavour for your character
You could create the cards kinda like how the Mad Hatter from Batman does for his mind control stuff. Flint the card and it magimechanically transforms into a gadget that produces the spell effect. That’s generally how artificers are sposta work, they use gadget and gizmos to create their spell effects. You would just implement them as cards.
If you're an artificer, you could possibly discuss having imbued spell scrolls into cards of some kind that you use? And your prepared spells are the cards you've created so far?
