I think the stronger argument is that Divine Smite's damage dice are doubled on a crit, since crits double "the attack’s damage dice" and Divine Smite causes the target to take "extra... damage from the attack."
Spells with attack rolls can critical hit, Eldritch Blast with agonizing blast against a Hex target for example would get the following rolls
Normal hit: 1d10+1d6+CHA
Critical hit: 2d10+2d6+CHA
Additionally spells that add damage die to attacks can critical hit, such as Divine Smite (and all other smite spells), Green Flame-Blade (initial hit only), Booming Blade (initial hit only) and True Strike would all also double the die. This is because the damage die are not the damage die of the spell (even if they are added by the spell), they are the damage of the attack and if that attack critical hits then all damage die of the attack are doubled.
Not a rules answer, but I do think it’s better if it does for the choices you have to make. When you get 2 attacks and hit with the first, do you use the smite, or hold off in case you crit with the second attack. But then you might miss with the second attack. I enjoy those kinds of decisions.
I'm not sure that there is much of a choice there though. Do you risk a 40% chance you'll lose the chance to Smite in the hopes that you'll be on the money with a 5% chance of doubling your damage? It really makes no sense to wait (except when it's basically mandated - you won't be able to kill them unless you crit, and you won't survive if you don't kill them now).

Does 2024 Divine Smite gets included in critical calculations?
I seen few articles and post that says it does not and others that say it does, wondering what is correct.

yeah i think you might be right, with being a spell I am not sure.

It might be tempting against a zombie or a typical beast with advantage or some other situation where the chance of missing is closer to 5% than 40%.
