I mean, it's possible they are getting ready to release 6th Edition, but I doubt it. They have a planned line up of adventure books, a pretty consistent flow of UA, and they just released the first new class since the game started. I think it'll be a while before things dry up enough that they are releasing a new edition. Honestly, I would only start getting suspicious when they haven't announced a new book or released new UA for about a year.

Not to mention the source, cbr just prints lots of articles and makes tons of videos on YouTube to get as much ad revenue as they can. They always get made fun of in their comments because they barely research anything, just trying to pump out volume.
Unless you're a wizard, intelligence is pretty much worthless in combat, and it's not that great out of it either. It only has five of the eighteen total skills
Yeah, stopped reading right here. That article is hot garbage. INT should be removed from 6e because it's "only" nearly 1/3 of the skill list. It's like they're being as wrong as they can on purpose just to make people talk about it. ...kinda like I am right now. Crap.

Yep I was thinking the same thing. The author clearly only cares about in-combat effects. Out of combat, INT is point for point probably the most effective stat in the game, with CHA a close second.

WOTC lies. We know that WOTC lies. WOTC knows that we know that WOTC lies. We know that WOTC knows that we know that WOTC lies. And still they lie.
Because of the above (a paraphrase from Orwell) I no longer post to the forums -- PM me if you need help or anything.
The game designers have been pretty solid in sticking with 5e and continuing to create content for the current edition for the foreseeable future. They have no reason to ditch it now considering it's overall popularity. That article definitely seems a little on the clickbait-y side, so I wouldn't give it too much consideration.
6th edition speculation threads pop up from time to time naturally, since we're all used to other games and movies and such constantly coming out with newer versions every few years or so, but that's simply not how the tabletop rpg industry works. They make their money from producing content for the current edition, and if they were constantly producing new systems they'd likely lose customers who don't want to be constantly learning new systems to stay current, rather they'd stick with the edition they like and rely on homebrew if they stopped making content for that edition. They only release a new edition when they perceive a fundamental issue within the edition that they feel needs to be addressed with a new set of rules. 5e is very intuitive and customizable from a rules perspective, so I don't see that happening any time soon (at least not under this creative team).
Yeah. I wouldn't expect it anytime soon. There's been several articles since their 45th anniversary citing how much more popular D&D has become. And I mean articles from mainstream sources like USA Toady, CNBC, etc. I think I remember reading that sales were up 25% in 2019. I may have that number wrong but there has been an insane jump in sales in the last 2 years. I can't see that Hasbro or WoTC would want to mess with that by putting out a new edition.
A Golden Anniversary or "G" e is almost a sure thing though. Seems almost too good of a marketing ploy to pass up. I expect the next ed will be backwards compatable, when it comes out in a few years.

Yup that would not be surprising at all. Golden Dragon edition or something, for the 50th anniversary of the original game.

That seems the most likely and I hope they do something spectacular for the 50th! It would be awesome if they put out a whole new mythos with it's own class (or sub class) and a free module that introduces them! That's not too much to ask is it? :)
Totally disagree, sadly these guys and most people that are on YouTube 20 hours a day don’t know anything about running an actual real business. It’s much more likely that the makers of this game are going to release a new edition while sales are high, and while there is a demand. The more popular something becomes the more you charge for it...... It’s called capitalism
I've been playing DnD for about 4 years now, and I personally think that if a 6 edition is released soon, some of my players will probably straight up leave.

Nothing says you have to switch to 6th edition the minute it's published. If you and your players want to stay on 5th, stay on 5th.
Champions 4th edition came out in 1989 or something, I think. I have not liked the later editions (5th and 6th), so I am still on 4th, and probably will always and forever be on 4th. No one can make you switch.
I am on 5th for the current D&D campaign I am running which, if things go well, will last for 2 or 3 years, probably. If that happens, and 6th comes out in the middle, we're not switching. I'll switch to 6th for the *next* campaign.
What will that mean for D&D beyond? Maybe I won't be able to use it. So, I'll find another platform.

Looks like it may be coming sooner than later, unfortunately I think. I really would prefer if they waited a few years.
What makes you think that?

This is just someone saying what they would like out of a new edition. People say this type of stuff all the time. There are no facts to it though.

Yep, cbr is like one of those tabloids that pump out another issue every week of barely researched garbage just to make a buck.

6e wont happen til they have reason to... 5e is selling way too well and is way too popular for a switch.
