Let me put this out there: most days I just feel like I'm losing motivation in life. I have mounds of student loan debt, have yet to put that education to use, made poor investment decisions and made a career change a while back to where I'm now only making a fraction I did two years ago. My life certainly isn't where I pictured it being.
That said, my friends and I got into DnD a little while back and I play with two groups a week currently. It's really the only thing I look forward to or have much motivation to put much energy into at this point. Life may suck, but DnD has really helped me push through this difficult time in my life and I'm thankful to the friends I have and the community at large for making this more than just a game. It's something a little more than that. This past week has been nothing but reminders of how much failure I've experienced in life and it's been hitting hard. And, it occurred to me that during the last year in particular, this...thing we call DnD....it's definitely helped me to connect with people and still have fun in the midst of it.
Staying connected to people in times of depression is important. Don't isolate yourself. All the stuff you've described has happened to most of the people I know, so it's nothing to be ashamed of. Good luck.
Ever since I started playing RPGs back in junior high (it's what we called grades 7-8 back then), I have always been playing some RPG or other... either table top or single player CRPG or MUSH or MMO or co-op NWN or what have you. No matter what other rough patches I was going through in my life, I was always able to escape into a fantasy world for a few hours each week (sometimes more, depending) and forget my problem, issues, and so on.

WOTC lies. We know that WOTC lies. WOTC knows that we know that WOTC lies. We know that WOTC knows that we know that WOTC lies. And still they lie.
Because of the above (a paraphrase from Orwell) I no longer post to the forums -- PM me if you need help or anything.
If you need a comunity to help you through your rough patch, you have one. We are here. Reach out if you need to. You don’t have to do it alone. We’re in your party.
Thanks, guys. I appreciate the support and after playing through two sessions since I posted yesterday, feel better and more motivated. Just needed to vent out what I'm going through currently and how the community has been and is helping me keep my mental wits about.
Same here brother. Thank you for introducing me to D&D. I look forward to hanging out with you and playing at least twice a week. It is definitely the best part of my week. And you know I'm just a text away.
I'm glad you've got your game groups to get you through the really rough times. I can definitely relate-- when I moved to a new city in a different state, it put me closer to family, but outside of that I had to start over socially, and I was having a hard time with it, basically never going out beyond stuff like grocery shopping. Getting back into D&D here has really gotten me back out-- and I don't just go to D&D and sit around alone the rest of the time, I have people I can hang out with outside of the game sometimes, and I've met other people who aren't in our group thanks to the local mini painting group... A lot of other things in my life kind of suck, but I'm a lot less alone.

Been there. Been there too many times. It’ll get better, it’ll get worse again, it’ll get better again too. D&D will be here, and so will we.

Hi there ManOfValor,
thank you for sharing that with everyone. As others here say, many of us can relate to the difficulties you mention.
Playing D&D is indeed an awesome way to regularly spend time with friends and be able to forget about real-life worries. 🙂
I wish you all the best for the future!

Nice to hear! Monthly DnD sessions helped me bond with many people. I hope it will do the same to you!
