Have I missed something about the Way of the Cobalt Soul, or is it not available on D&D Beyond? Do I have to buy a certain book to unlock it? I would have thought with the other classes and sub classes that they are playing in the stream for a number of years now (gunslinger etc.) being available that that one would too.
Or will it be a paid subclass in the upcoming book?
has there been anymore chatter about whether critical role / the team on here is able to release it on dndbeyond? i haven't had much luck looking around the forums.
The content found in the Tal'Dorei campaign guide was published under a 3rd party (Green Ronin) and as such falls under the general umbrella of 'Third party content is a difficult thing to get on DDB as it stands'. Combine that with the fact that Green Ronin's deal with Critical Role/Matt Mercer has ended and the book is no longer being published kind of puts it up in the air in terms of any form of access.
I would not expect to see it on D&D Beyond anytime soon, if at all
If anyone is still looking for it, there's a Way of the Cobalt Soul subclass in the Homebrew section. I don't know D&D Beyond's stance on public versions of third party content, but I have a feeling we'll soon find out.

It's absolutely not allowed. If you didn't make it yourself - you can't publish it.
Considering it's been 9 minutes since your post - and that link is shown as "not found" - I expect it's either private homebrew which hasn't been published (which is allowed) - or it's already been removed.

My word, that was quick. It was a public homebrew that I didn't create, I found it through searching.

Let's throw down
The Way of the Cobalt Soul is found within the Tal'Dorai campaign guide, which is published by Green Ronin.
Unfortunately this means it isn't available on D&D Beyond.

Does anyone have a link to the updated version of this monastic tradition (subclass)?
I have the hardback and checked Green Ronin's website for errata.
It's on Matt's twitter. https://twitter.com/matthewmercer/status/1105321543788199936
It's possible he's updated it more recently than that though.

And... that’s how illegal it is.
