I’m making a homebrew race, it was okayed by the DM and it is an offshoot of the Aarakocra race in a what if scenario where they originate from the fire plane.
The trouble is my dm wanted all these weaknesses, which I’m fine with. My gripe is that I can’t get the race to work when I try to give it the inherent ability to cast the “produce flame” cantrip like a fire genasi would at first level. It would be kind of useful for my current monk, but I just don’t know how to do it.
Does anyone know how I can do this? I already have most of the race created, and I already know which racial trait I want to put this under, I just don’t know how to tweak the modifier just right so the spell shows up on any character I create.
I already tried making a fire genasi copy to see what I was doing wrong and tried that, but it didn’t work.
I didn't know where to go. All I knew is that I couldn't get the spell to work with the standard method of making homebrew since I haven't gotten into the coding style that D&D beyond uses.
It's not like the forum page gives you a great big roadmap or anything (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong there.
And simply putting produce flame for some reason wont add it to my monk character. Don't know why. May be because D&D beyond is finnicky with changing homebrew after you made something with it

The first thread on the homebrew forum is a great big roadmap, and so are the next 6 after that.
And also, That This one is just too obvious, maybe the big thing saying spells, might have something to do with spells.

I realize now just how weird the homebrew creator is with characters that already have the homebrew race applied.
I had to make a copy of the character to finally find the spell on my monk, and then rejoined the campaign as that copy and had my old one deleted.
