It would not be half caster, but a third caster, as rogues gain subclasses at level 3.
You need to create the subclass, then click on can cast spells. Then choose a spell list, whether they are known or prepared casters and then you're good for spellcasting.

If you make a fighter or rogue with the Spellcasting class feature and casting turned on, it just kind of works the same way as the PHB casters do. Some features are hard-coded to feature names, like I believe Hex Warrior is.
How do I add spell slots for my homebrew subclass? Im making a half caster style rogue and I have no idea how to give it any spell slots.

When you make a copy of the arcane trickster, it doesn't show any of the details on how it mechanically works in the homebrew system.
