I thought I was losing my mind but it was really a bug. 

I found out that there are some bugs in homebrew. I know there are always going to be bugs but this one is annoying. 
The one I found basically does not update the trait mapping when you update a trait. 
For example: I changed ability score increase from choosing and ability to score to being strength only. When I did this and then went back to a character that already had the race on there I changed to a normal (non homebrew) race then back to the homebrew in order to update it with the changes. However, it did not update. It stayed the same. Sort of. Text and other things change with the new modifications but the modifier that you added does not. It still kept it as a choose instead of as a set attribute. 

So, I deleted the trait altogether and readded it back just as it was before (under the most recent modification) and it worked fine. 

I have had this happen on more than one occasion and I can reproduce the issue. The trait description and all details change but the mapping to how it functions does not.
